Have you tried Ryzom? As this game offers exactly what you are looking for. And graphics aren't outdated as some might claim it just needs some tweaking. The world is superb and you have to rely on your community to advance. No fedex quests either.

The issue with FFXIV is that it tries to satisfy everyone, without truly succeeding.

    You have experienced the game.

    Waite for FFXV.

I really wish you would stop spreading misinformation. The bulk of the game's quest are not in OB.

Really, what was in closed beta that isn't in open?

Did you not play FFXI? The majority of FFXI wasn't "unlocked" until you did story line missions because most of the game was story arc (minus the bonus stuff added later)

What was in closed beta that is not in open?

Mrbloodworth I don't know what started your campaign against FFXIV, but you seem to know 100% of the content in FFXIV.  They are trying to release a solid core game and build on it.  There will be constant content streaming in just like with FFXI and almost every other MMO besides those who try to cram in too much stuff for launch and end up having a bunch of buggy content that they have to work on fixing for years before they can start streaming in more.

I don't know why you seem so bent on hating on this game, but there is more content then you have seen, and far more than no content.  What is it you are trying to accomplish or get across exactly?

I think it's a goal of many forum posters. To properly alert the people on the fence that their investment into this game is not worth it. I'd say the game is really buggy, optimization is awful. I can't stress enough my frustration that my low-end laptop can run at 25FPS with an ATI 4330 card, yet my desktop with an i7-970 and GTX 480 runs at a slideshow pace, despite hours and hours of tweaking options and priorities. Many people have had success with the mouse running better, or the game, but I've personally not seen much improvement on my laptop, and no improvement on my desktop.

TLDR; trying to save people some money.

Yes they are.  Only the full story arc isn't.   There simply isn't any.

I know I've posted this in other threads, but I'm getting sick of people being mislead.  The statement about locked content was made during closed beta.  It was unlocked for open beta.  All that really meant, was additional areas, with yet more zero content.

I find that funny as there are still zones locked (can not enter) in open beta. Also its been stated by the dev's that there are indeed storyline quests not open in the open beta. They have stated time and time ageain that they are not going to open everything up until launch (aka 90% of the craftable items are not even in the OB - ever wander why most people are running around in basic armor or just the next tier up?)

My first impression of this MMO is that grind comes first, and story later. What if I don't want to be a crafter? This game should be renamed to Final Crafting Grind Online or something. Another subpar MMO, when this madness will stop?

Why do you keep asking that?  In closed beta there was only Limsa Lominsa, the battle system was much slower, there were entire classes missing.  In one phase they patched in multiple classes and large fixes in a matter of a couple days.  From the end of CB to OB they added the other 2 cities and massive amounts of overworld.  They have always had an internal version, and it was obviously tested because there were no bugs with that brand new content.  We have no idea what else they have vs. what we have.

There are dungeons in the game.  You know when you open the map and see all those landmarks.  If you visit them you can find a number of things.  There are a number of dungeons, NM's, and treasure in the dungeons.  There will be plenty of content in the game before long, but yes at launch it will be a solid basic MMO.

Read my other post. YOu are just sadly mistaken. There are 3-5 dungeons with bosses per Nation map right now, in the game. You just don't know where they are or have not been down there yet.

There are faction leves that pratically are the BCNMs in XIV. You can buy them using the faction credit. They will have named boss which drops rare loots.

How about Behest? Did you do them yet?

You are just lazy, ignorant and like to complain a lot.

Xipher is a fanboi troll who's been incessantly posting in various threads that the open beta 2 weeks before launch does not contain most of the content of the retail even though many other posters have correctly pointed out that content has been unlocked since closed beta and that almsot all other open betas at a time close to launch has at minimum all the low level content available (some will withhold high level content). He also cites that the game requires 15 gb (remember 15gb to install) yet the game only has 7gb (7gb to play) which is very amusing to do so, but kinda pitiful.

+1... Everyone complaining about the lack of content just haven't found it. They want some quest/npc to tell them here to go and hold their hand. It's pretty obvious to the people who have found the dungeon areas.

You can't really expect ALL people to be entertained by a same single aspect of the game. Especially people who get plenty (sometimes too much) of socialization in real life (I know such thing might be "alien" to you but it does exist) either through in-person communications or through out-of-game phone/webcam/textchat conversations and are simply seeking to get a quiet and relaxing enjoyment out of other aspects of the game (if those aspects actually exist in it).

If you've had enough social interaction then go play a single player RPG. There are plenty of them out there. If MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE games were meant by design to enjoy alone, then they wouldn't be so MASSIVE and MULTIPLAYER.

I almost didn't play FFXIV because of all the trolls here and the people saying the game is horrible. Im glad i did play it because im definitely going to buy it and am fully enjoying the game playing with a linkshell of people i met on these boards. Had i listened to all of you QQing about it being a bad game i would have just wrote it off as a bad game. I only hope people reading these threads have enough common sense to try something out first. Because i don't know how many times i've been told about a game that is completely awesome, and i end up just putting it on my shelf of games, never playing it ever again. Or been told about an awesome movie and it being a "must see", waste money seeing it in the theater and spend the next 2 hours afterwards complaining about wanting my money back.

    Waite for FFXV.

And that's my fear, perhaps the reality.  FF XIV is a multiplayer game, as opposed to a player-centric organic massively-multiplayer game, aside from participaing with a group against static and predictable computer controlled mobs that are tethered to a leash.

OP, you might find more entertainment or similar entertainment with a single-player rpg that has a multi-player lobby system, but doesnt charge $15/month.

Striving for Silver Stars since Gold is so effeminate.

As opposed to WoW, where you get to 80 in less a month if you're a casual and then just grind heroics and the same raids every week for that oh so precious to you, purple. That sounds like SOOOOOO much content that WoW has focused on by making the leveling extremely easy.

Wow does not have any more content than any other MMO, just just decided to dumb it all down for the masses. Which is what you are. The masses. The rest of us looking for a different niche game, we will enjoy FFXIV. WoW had nothing at launch besides some instances, and a quest grind. Oh wait, and onyxia. One raid boss until Molten Core got finish and released about 4 months after launch, in which everyone was already 60 and just doing the same 15 man UBRS  ALL day long.

The only issue here is that there isn't a means to grind quests. It isn't the grind itself, its just the method of grinding. Some of you prefer exclamation marks above npc's heads that force you to never interact with another player unless its an elite quest, while some of US prefer to gain our levels in groups, socializing and enjoying our time in the virtual game world with other people.

Don't post much, so I don't intend to jump on either side of the fence, but provide my own objective view. When FFXIV decides to be content rich, it shines. I love the NPC interactions and story quests. The combat system isn't the best, but it's fun enough to get me through. But I won't pretend I'm an amazing gamer. I can find my way through Guildleves and story quests well enough. It's just that after those are done, and I still have a few levels before I can start any other interactive content, how am I supposed to know what to do or where to go? Nothing has told me about changing jobs or crafting, or even what sort of perks go along with crafting. Nowhere in the game was it indicated how I even go about using the armory system, or why I should do so. All I know is I'm some pretty boy with an ugly weapon and ugly clothes. I can't buy new equipment anywhere (not even a shield for my gladiator), I can't join any guilds. Even grinding, which I'm willing to accept if the wild encounters are compelling is next to impossible with how sparse farmable mobs are in many areas.

I played EVE some time ago, and spent a month on it. I really enjoyed many aspects of the game until I decided I wanted to do more than the lvl 1 missions. That was my first mistake, as trying to figure out how to do so lost me many ships and lots of money. Holding your hand like it does in tutorial quests is not what semi-casual gamers like me want. What we want is more than a tutorial quest then a boot out of the nest. We want a natural progression between being a complete noob and being completely on your own without a clue. WoW may be tired and guilty of some of the same boring grindy quests that other games are, but at least it carefully guides your progress so that you never feel like you have nothing to do due to ignorance.
