.. NO one would use a lance like this to fight because it just woudnt work!!! ...
Really?? I thought i had saw some videos where it works.
Man, we cant trust in what we watch on web....
No, what he means is that if someone is strong enough to wield that weapon with that speed and acceleration, it should also have actions and reactions that work that way.
For example If the toon swings that weapon with the usual acceleration like shown in (especially Asian) MMO's and it misses, it wouldnt be able to stand still at the sudden stop after a miss. If the trajectory of the weapon was going forward and it misses, the toon would flung itself forward. Unless the toon manages to spin the world at the same time This is what you never see and what makes it so ridiculous.
You see a toon wielding these huge weapons and when it hits, it shows an impact that implies that the weapon has a large mass. But when they miss, the weapon suddenly doesnt seem to have the same mass.
Hey guys, ever heard of a medieval jousting lance? Lancers are pretty accurate, although in reality not used for actual combat, its just their weapons to awesomely stylish. Plus its also for balance reasons they have a massive lance, It gives them like a 5 foot range in meele combat which is important for a twitch based game...
Twitch based action? Lol Lances in your example go in one direction and only for a few seconds. Before that they are carefully balanced vertically. Trying to swing it into a different direction will make you fall of your horse.
The only reason that they are accurate is because your opponent is conveniently coming from the exact opposite direction and tries to hit you in a similar way. In all other situations it would be more difficult then trying to hit a mosquito with a sledgehammer. Although these games might make you believe that is just as easy too
Welcome to the forums MrMxyzptlk, on this very important issue. If people think Lance fu (ala hong kong action films) maybe they will object less. Yes this would be silly if it was a real historical western knight on foot. But its not so learn to love your lance.
It's interesting to think about. Sometimes strange items work well against certain beasts. Animal control uses a pole with a wire at the end of it to catch wild animals. Snake handlers use a pole with a curve at the end to control the snake's movements. A lance isn't too far fetched..
Hunters used to use massive boar spears for hunting down said boars. They did not carry them around that easily though and they did not do sword lunges and parries with them. They were for two hands of course. But like I say we are not playing a History 101, this is going to be a fantasy game.
I think the people is really missing the point, then let me ask one question that would make you think about it.
It would be ok on TERA if the mages, everytime that use a spell, would be transmuted on cute little panda, and all weapons used in this game, when inflicting damage would give a cool ´ho-ho-ho- Santa Claus has made a hit!!!´ sound, and every helmet, when on PvP would became, instantly a gyrocopter? Well, its fantasy, then it would be possible, ok? But would surpass the bounds of RIDICULOUS!!! that´s what we are talking about, its not only REALISM, but REALISM on a videogame who try to achieve SOME degree of realism in their own myth!!! Of course mages are not ridiculous in this setting, but oversized lance , ACME type IS!!!

the myth of the game is based on fantasy set, who starts with Tolkien myth... Some games have modified it to mix it up with a more oriental view... But those 2 things just doesnt blend... WoW is an example, with their huge, oversized weapons, it only made the Tolkien legacy of reality-yet-fantastic goes under the drill to appeal to a more childish crowd... Tera, with this ridiculous lance just took a step further in killing the genre and letting it more and more idiotic and childish... sorry, but anyone who thinks that this oversized lance fits on fantasy genre should imagine the Lord of The Rings movie trilogy and Aragorn with one of these ´lance´ and re-think if it fits the genre...

Dont take me wrong, Domenicus, but you are trying to make ur OPINION a FACT, but it isnt, its just your opinnion about that lance looks ridiculous. Its your opinnion, nothing wrong with that.
The books of Tolkien are not some kind of bible that medieval fantasy have to follow. Tolkien myth is just ONE fantasy world and just because someone use Elfs in other fantasy wolrd doenst mean that wolrd is equal to Lord Of The Rings.
Tera is creating their fantasy world (just like hundereds of others mmo's), they are using things that are not original (Like Elfs) but its their fantasy world, so its their rules.
I accept that you dont like big weapons, but trying to make a point that weapons are ridiculous because they dont work i thing its wrong.
Anyway, what i wrote until now its not a OPINION, its a FACT!!!
