I would not go with the GTX 465, go for the GTX 460 1GB instead. They have on par performance, but the GTX 460 uses about 15W less and runs 15C cooler. While they are the same price you will save money in the long run on power consumption and the components life should be better at lower temperatures.
I agree with the GTX 460 over the 465, the GTX 460 outperforms the 465 in certain situations, and with a proper cooler and its lower temperatures than the GF100 type cards, it may touch the levels of a GTX 470 through overclocking. There is not much difference in fps between the 1gb and 768mb versions unless you play in higher resolutions, but it -is- more future proof.

Yah, I play on a 40" LCD TV - It would be nice to run FF on 1920x1080. We'll see how my new gtx 460 performs in a few days
Just be warned that the new graphics card is not going to make the mouse smooth and the UI will still lag. The mouse isn't hardware-driven (a hint I guess to get a controller) and the UI I'm assuming is because the servers are being stressed. It will be an issue if the latter isn't resolved, but it won't have anything to do with your system.
I ordered a GTX 460 as well, i'm hoping it solves most of the performance issues. Unfortunately the FFXIV benchmark hardly reflects actual in game performance, and the closest to a real benchmark that I could find so far regarding the GTX 460 was here.
I'm not too worried about the mouse issue, as i'm sure that someone can develop a working hardware patch for the retail version as was done for the beta client, if SE decides not to implement theirs properly. The delay in the UI which is especially noticable when having to use several steps in the menu worries me however. Selling/purchasing multiple items and crafting with the delay/lag is intolerable for me, I don't remember FFXI's UI being that unresponsive.

Yah, I fixed the cursor lag with a 3rd party patch. UI lag still persists. I'm not 100% on the game though. Although, I'll have a new gtx 460 ready for other games now hehe :-)
its deffinitely something on your end im running something pretty close to yours and im at max gfx with minimal probs. now as for the game ill only play if:

Well, every time you open a window or interact with the UI (like equipping something, or adding an ability), you have to fetch and send data from the server. Right now it's dramatically laggy and I can only assume they will optimize the servers come release and when they figure out how much exactly the servers can handle.
UI lag is not unheard of in mmorpgs, but I've never experienced anything as bad as what FFXIV has going right now currently, and I know it's not because of my 8800gt.
Here's a message a mod left on ffxicore in a closed thread about closing the thread:
Reason: Sorry, curently half a dozen UI/Input lag threads running rampant. General knowledge via interviews at this point that they have a lot of road blocks for monitoring data.
I suppose it might be a measure to try to stop gil-selling or item-duping, but it won't be acceptable come release.
ASUS make nice cards, that should run the game on high settings with a quad core and 4GB RAM. I imagine SE will sort the mouse lag problem soon and there are third party fixes for it around.
Just a note but the GTX 460 requires two 6 pin PCI-e power connectors. Most new PSU have several but older ones may not. The GTX 460 does not use much more power than the 8800 (30W more) so you should be ok there.
What's really weird about this whole topic is that my PC is worse than his, I play the game at the lowest setting for everything and on my PC it looks way better than that pic posted. I can't make the game look that bad if I tried.
Are you that big of a weeaboo you downloaded the jap client?
Nah, you can change the language in the config
Helps me keep my skills sharp :-)
You should look up what a weeaboo is, because you more or less agreed with him.
Edit: on topic, I'm not sure why your computer is running it so poorly, however after looking through your system specs I'd agree entirely it is your graphics card.
My 9400 GT is running the game pretty much flawlessly on low settings, which is to say the game looks nothing like the blocky photo you have posted, it looks much more like the other screen shot taken in this thread.
I only have a Dual Core 2.33 as well... Game runs fine, when you slap that new graphics card into your machine you'll be golden.
I'm just curious at what resolution you are running the game at? Also, what kind of monitor do you have? I run the game at almost max graphic settings and my system isn't any better than any else's here.
E6600 - 2.4ghz - No OC 4gb OCZ 1066 GTX 260 Windows 7 - 64 bit
Other games play fine, but this one kicks my PC's ass
This is my system info, and it looks I have a worse system with better graphics and I don't remember my FPS, because with Fraps on, my FFXIV performance getting worse. But I can play without any problems. (But my husband says he does see frame rate problems, while I just don't see it, or not enough to annoy me. Only with login in I notice it. But he often sees things I don't notice in games.)
I do play better in windowed mode,
Window size: 1600x900
Multisampling: No AA
Buffer Size: Resolution
Shadow Detail: Low
Depth of field I use
Texture Quality Standard
Texture Filtering Low
I did had higher settings and better performance when they still had capped frame rate, so I had to turn some things down when they changed that

Knowing and using a language isn't trying to assimilate yourself in a culture you aren't a part of...
I played Regnum Online in Spanish to try to assist in my grasp of the language (i failed, miserably), but I am in no means trying to emulate their culture.
---
My system is identical to yoursJT and I can by no means run the game with any settings on (physics, extended, dust, shadows, AA, DoF, ambient occlusion, texture filtering) at 1650x1080
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

I tend to disagree, most language classes teach you about their culture because language and culture are intermingled. Terms and phrases we use might have roots in things like food and society. When I took German they taught me all about german foods and german governement and german society. The same goes for when I took Spanish class, which is when I learned I didn't care for Flan a whole lot. This is not a bad thing.
I'm sure that some people would be put off by "fans" of their culture asking them questions in poorly phrased and accented words, however other people are actually very happy to see others try to learn more about their race, nationality, or language.
The great thing about Final Fantasy 11 and 14 is that its community is a global one. People from around the world speaking every language you can imagine sharing their culture and their perspective on not only a gaming world but the real world as well. A true melting pot, the kind of thing that we should all hold dear.

Maybe you got something running the background that is eating up cpu or memory?
its deffinitely something on your end im running something pretty close to yours and im at max gfx with minimal probs. now as for the game ill only play if:
1. i have money
2. if my friends do.

There is a setting in FFXIVConfig called Buffer. It effectively draws the game at different sizes then scales it to the window size.
To the OP. When you get the new card update us on how much it helped. I'm curious

It means that some piece of your equipment is critically damaged. Go to a repair NPC and have them fix it.
EDIT: I only know that because it happened to me last week and I finally decided to get my equipment repaired today and it disappeared.
