Just as a matter of interest, what happens if you choose not to buy Cataclysm? How will your charactern interact with the new world?
Basically, everyone will experience the old world changes. Old Azeroth is gone, dead, and buried. People who do not purchase Cataclysm will not have access of course to 80-85 content, nor the two races. You will also not have access to archaeology or any new zones added (ala Deepholm). You will recieve the same talent changes and new UI upgrades as everyone else.
Blizzard is being very generous with what non-purchasers have access to. Think of Cataclysm as a gigantic patch/overhaul of vanilla 1-60 zones, and the option to purchase the expansion to hit 85 and new races.
Blizzard is being generous? you've already bought the game... and burning crusade... and lich king... and given them 15 bucks a month... and will continue to give them 15 bucks a month... that's hardly generous
Might I refer you to the other thread I made? This post is so pointless.
Do we have to have Sanctified Set to get the next set that will be release in Final Product?
I don't know yet. Everyone I've run Cata dungeons and the odd raid with are all using quest reward gear. Tiered gear hasn't been implemented, nor will be probably until launch.
I know it's nothing official and probably not accurate at all but what's the gossip on Cata's launch date?
yes, Yes, YES!
Does it seem close to being ready or do you think there is still quite a bit to go?
My best guess and those of other beta players: late October, early November, like Lich King's release. This is indiciated by the amount of polish in the beta, the troll/gnome events, and the bare minimum of content they need to add to make the expansion complete.
EDIT: Via MMO-Champion
"Keep in mind that Blizzard didn't announce it because the release can still be postponed, but as far as I know the target release date for Cataclysm is the first week of November (that would be November 2, if you like numbers)."

People who have never purchased Lich King, Burning Crusade or Cataclysm will still get all the new content in the old world which is almost an entirely new game. Seems like a pretty good deal for no extra money wouldn't you agree?

Depends of course if the new content is better than the old or not...
But we all know that almost everyone will buy it, MMO expansions always sells well and most of a games players will buy it.
I wonder if WOW is persisting as a game for a new generation of players. There is just so much the 2004 crowd can still get out of this game, speaking for myself. Maybe Blizz is counting on the new folks stepping in; then I can see why the expansion is the way it is.
Nah, this is about keeping the game interesting for current subs and maybe get back some old players.
Few new players go for a game that is 6 years old, they are making a new MMO for that instead. Don't worry about it however, Blizzard are pretty good at making money (understatement of the year).
Thanks for the info. With all the high tier gear in the present game, it's kind of hard to step back to level 1 and do it all over again. Plus, the most worn out part of the game, arguably, is WOLTK, which for some reason appears to remain intact. And if it really only takes a couple of months to get from 80 to 85, then the "Dalaran-type" experience of hanging around and re-running the same dungeons over and over for emblems is still there.
So basically, unless one rolls a new toon, I'm not sure how much bang-for-the-buck this expansion delivers, and wonder if it was really worth the effort (and the wait).
I think I will have to sit back and watch, before I jump on in.
Just my two coppers on the subject.
That two-month estimate was if you leveled a current 80 to 85, as well as started a new Worgen or Goblin from scratch. You have about two months of 1-85 questing content by my estimates (I'm mainly horde though) for both factions combined before you start entering familiar zones and quests.
There is enough content to keep my entertained, that's for sure. I play casually with only about 5-6 hours of raiding a week. Cataclysm brings some serious heat to the dungeons; everything is much harder than it was in Wrath (any player will agree Wrath is the easiest expansion to master by far).
Think about this too. When Wrath launched, we had a single real raid, and that was Naxxramas. When Cataclysm launches, we will have three: Bastion of Twilight, Throne of the Four Winds, and Blackwing Descent. That's triple the amount of raid content than Wrath had. Don't even forget about the additional 5-man dungeons on top of that. Within that two month estimate I said, they should have the Firelands raid complete, adding even more stuff to do. Cataclysm has plenty of content to last 3-4 months until the first major raid patch.
My question: Are the 5man normals a challenge in Cata or a walk over like in Wotlk?
Since they added crowd control mechanics back in the game, they're a lot harder now. I'm sure once everyone is overgeared and constantly running and knows how to play them, they will be, but until then (a few months) they're difficult.

Are they keeping the same token system like they did for the heroics in WotLK? That made for an incredible grindy end game. Before I quit I had some something like 99 kills of Heroic Loken in HoL. And I'm sure I had more in some other dungeons. The repetitive grind wore me out and was a big contributer to me quiting. It looked like they were going to have an AA but they scraped that entirely. I was pretty disappointed about that. To me the end game looks more of the same. Good for people who enjoy that but I was hoping for a different direction this time.
I'm glad to hear they stepped up the instance difficulty and you'll have to actually use CC again. The WOTLK dungeons were painfully easy, even on heroic mode. I'm most excited about the heroic versions of the old instances. One of my all time favorites was deadmines - have you got to play the heroic version?
1. Have any of the major cities besides Undercity been changed, or are they just the same.
2. Im a devoted Horde character, but Ive been really excited by the prospect of the Worgens. Is the Worgen playing experience worth it, or does the fun just die after the first 3 levels like in the Durotar starting zones? How long did it take you to get to get 85?
3. Does the new Shadowfang Keep heroic kick ass? One of my fave classic dungeons.
And finally, 4. Does the World Tree look cool?
Thanks
Only 2 months till Cataclysm...
I'm really sick of the whole "There's a massive fanbase for X", or "Y would be a WoW-killer if it just had a chance".
There is no massive conspiracy waiting in the MMO playerbase.
There are no "sleeper-agent fans" waiting to convert once the X or Y is unleashed on the world.
Oh yeah, and what happens to those with the Exploration achieves from Vanilla world? Do they keep achieves, or do they have to reexplore new areas all over again? Im thinking of doing classic explorer achieves, and I dotn want to get kicked back to square one in November.

They didn't remove anything, just more streamlined. Instead of multiple tokens for multiple tiers, you now have Justice Points for PvE and Honor Points for PvP.

1. Orgimmar is completely different. It's a lot bigger, bolder and more badass since Garrosh has taken over. Say bye to the flight master tower - it's been replaced with a gigantic Warsong-esque citadel. More flames, more awesome. Stormwind has had its park destroyed and sunken into the ocean. Other than that, most cities are reletively the same with slight cosmetic differences or new NPCs.
2. The Worgen playing experience dies around 12-13. After that you head out of Gilneas into the world of normal Cataclysm. 12-13 is awesome though.
3. I don't know, I haven't tried it yet (I'll see if I can get in tonight).

You keep the achievements. If you complete them in Catacysm again, you get another one called "Surveying the Damage." If you complete your Explorer in Cataclysm, you get the same achievement as in classic. Personally, it's cooler to get the achiev now than in Cata, as you can look at the dates of your achievements and see it is pre-Cata, just for nostalgia.
Without giving out any spoilers how are the new raids? Are they significantly better than WotLK ones or kind of the same? And finally does CC matter in raids again or only in the dungeons?
Well i have a question i really need answered due to a know it all friend of mine who claims he was in beta but left because he claimed combat was broken, talent trees arent fully finished yet, and at 85 certain classes are too OP and can 2 shot any other class. I am in beta (still updating launcher) but is any of that true?

1. The raids all feel the same to me now, including vanilla. It's just the way WoW's tank/healer/DPS mechanics work. They are certainly pretty though. I haven't played much of the raids, as you can guess, not a lot of people bothered leveling to 85. Most are still 80 and just flying around exploring. From what I can understand, the Skywall raid isn't in game yet, or I just can't find the damn thing.
