They consider other races as animals that are to be studied and used for their world-dominating ends. They used the cute sylvari (they are the only really cute ones in GW2, hate em) for scientific experiments (you know spraying chemicals in bunny wabbits eyes to see how red they get, placing them in freezing water to see how long it takes them to die - science in short) for several decades until it occured to them that it might be unwise for political reasons. The fact that they look like cute eastern rpg wet dream is what is called irony. They are hobbits squared with the soul of Sauron on a bad day.

Well, at least let the Asura have sharply pointed teeth when they smile broadly to balance the cuteness factor. And some gaunt, ragged looking Asura for a necromancer.

Regarding Sylvari, they're not all cute: see the Nightmare Court, they're a fun bunch.

Well I guess you have two choices. Play it, or don't.  I don't understand why you would let a character skin ruin your game experience?

  • Masa1Masa1 Member UncommonPosts: 318

Heh, just think about Asura warrior "kiddie" beating a huge Charr in melee combat. The only reason Asura exists (as a playable race) is to allow those kid Gnomes to migrate from WoW to GW2.

Id like for you to elaborate on how its the 'biggest' let down of the game, then again perhaps there is no need. You are entitled to your opinion on what you like and don't. I am not a fan of cute, nor am I a fan of small, IMO it brings a wide vararity of differen't character choice. Perhaps being small and technology advanced is awesome, and has a great advantage in the game somehow, Ill have to wait and see after checking it out.

    @Sid_Vicious

I'm going to have to agree with you, they are sort of creepy looking. However, I highly doubt it will make you feel like your playing a kids game, while your slaughtering them in player versus player (PVP). It's nice to have big things to kill, but its nicer to have smaller things to step on.  being killed by something small, somehow bugs me in secret, Although it's not much of a secret now. I feel its great that the choice is there, if I ever feel like trying them out. Perhaps they are little elite devils of mass destruction, who will pwnzor other races, with they're technology and engineering. XD

Just want to say that your Signature is probably the biggest, most outrageous signature I've ever seen and would probably do well to be trimmed back some. That is all! :D

Ever seen a 130 pound person submit a 200+ pound boxer in real life?  It's basically the same thing.

There's a reason why you are forced into a specific category according to your weight. If both 130 and 200+ are professionals, 130 pound guy has a high chance to get severe injuries + he definitely has the disadvantage against 200+ pound guy.

So your example is certainly possible, but it's not very likely to happen. In the game it's going to happen every 2nd time when Asura and Charr are fighting...

The only thing i dont get about this thread is how can u consider those things cute, they look more like creepy little aliens or gremlin things with razor sharp teeth that would bite your face off if you pissed one off too much.

That being said Im making an Asura just because they have an interesting personality.

Seriously. Cute is the last thing I think of when I see an Asura.

I do like their snarky attitude. I might play one just because of that.

As you can probably tell from my avatar I will be playing an Asura without question. I really like their look, back story, and everything else. Plus if you watch the Necromancer video on guildwars2.com you can see an Asura in action and they can be down right creepy. I love it! ^^

I think their characteristics are a combination of Stitch, Invader Zim and Brain from Pinky and the Brain.

    This is not a game.

I think your ascertain that a cute little race is an attempt to appeal to younger audience is just silly, I would find it more likely that younger players would go for extremely large "badass" looking races or extremely attractive races.

I am very far from a young player, and I have often enjoyed playing a little race, especially in PvP. but also in PvE (nothing quite like a "tiny" tanking a giant or a dragon)  Though I do understand that this is a preference and matter of opinion.

"Kids" and "younger" has nothing to do with it.

This is, a matter of opinion.  Creating a "cute little race" isn't created to appeal to the average gamer  -- the 30 year old male.  Sure everyone has their own opinion of what races they like,  but theres a reason they create different races in different styles,  and its not JUST for game mechanics,  its also  to appeal to different kinds of players.  Maybe these were created just to have a different flow of character type,  maybe they were created because there were no tiny characters.....  all I know is that they do look like a race that would appeal to children.  Thats my opinion, but I don't think I'm alone in having that.

I doubt their intention is to appeal to children; the general story and context of the game say otherwise. If I was to make a guess I would say they probably put them in to appeal to female gamers and Anime fans(IMO).

Imma play one because they look cool. In the end it's nothing more than what people like. You like them? Then you will play as an Asura, if you don't, you will be the one hunting them down to kill because you have no life and decide to hate something made of  pixels.

Personality will ultimately decide what you play/do.

You guys must have some kind of superiority complex to call the Asura a kiddy race... heh, those buggers are far from kiddie.

I kind of view them as a whole race with a Napolean Complex.

For those that think that they are cute, go read the first chapter of the GW2 novel, it's for free.

So do we get Thong armor in GW2? If not, I'm totally not buying it!

Yeah it's kind of unfortunate that fantasy writers rarely make a highly intelligent race that isn't completely arrogant and self-absorbed.

It's equally unfortunate that most fantasy races are written in such a way as to make it seem like every member of the race has a specific personality type.

Atleast in Ghosts of Ascalon you get to see some differences between members of the same races.  You've got cool-headed human guy versus crazy human chick, disciplined Charr versus bloodthirsty Charr, megalomanic Asura versus more down-to-earth patient Asura, Haughty Norn woman chick equally haughty but more friendly Norn guy (I'm not the one that wrote all the female characters as crazy).

Hopefully that more realistic sense that not every member of a race thinks exactly alike will pass into the game as well.

Well OP guy.... if u think having Master yoda in the game being cute... then u must not know of the FORCE!!! if u dont like a game because of a certain race then u must be racist(sarcasm). just dont play the game if u dont like it! i for 1 will be one of the thousands if not hundreds of thousands that will be eagerly awaiting the release of this game. Well, they are rather close to gnomes and the race I like the least. The one I never will make as an alt.

But on the good side there is someone to aim for in the mists...

The drawing that I quoted look like the only place that it could come from would be a human being's imagination because nothing would ever look that way in the natural world. The creature that I am looking at in this post looks like things that I have seen like a catfish lol or other beastly features. You can still have something look cute and make it look more realistic. It has nothing to do with trying to prove that I am an adult . .. lol . .. it has more to do with how immersed I will feel in the game.

Am I going to feel like, "Whoa what is that creature?"

    or

The picture that I started the thread with is what I fear.

I would play a Kender. I would play a gnone. It would be cute. But a teletubby?!?!1

Its "Signatures" each are independent, therefore its not outrageous at all. However I will cut out the largest of the 'Signatures' and perhaps it will be more to 'your' liking.

I was thinking of adding on more signatures, but that would have been a little more outrageously outrageous. =P
