To all those that said there is no "miracle patch" and that "beta = release"...............
You've just been pimpd slapped by SE.
Really? this patch adds more content OTHER than the mind numbing guild leves? It fixes the copy paste terrain? It adds in that 6gb of content everyone said was missing?
I hardly think fixing the horrid UI lag and turning down the guild leve timer qualifies as a pimp slap.
For real, I was wondering that too. I also heard that wont be any lazor guns and I am begining to suspect that there wont be a hooker dressed up like a cat in my CE box. I guess we can't have everything we hoped for.
forgot to add they wont be adding jump either and swimming :P lawlz
Damn, this combined with the other thread makes FF fanbots seem arrogant and confrontational.
Y'know what? You keep your game. I hope it's the best thing in the world for you. Just stay out of mine.
Generalizing is silly 100% of the time.
Saying any portion of a group reflects the entirety of the group is folly.
Ooh yes, I'm sorry, I'm sure there's a couple of FF fans who don't act like this. I don't feel like rooting them out, though, so I'll stick with my generalizations.
Perhaps it's not FFXIV specifically, just FF as a franchise.
There are 181,000 preorders in NORTH AMERICA alone (PC only, not including PS3).
People sure are leaving this game? But, uh.... shouldn't that number be LESS than it was a week before. Because by my definition, when you have an increase in pre-orders, that implies people are more likely to try the game......
PS - Western gamers need to take a refresher course on Japanese culture. They legitimately do things differently. If you have a sour taste in your mouth because Aoc, Warhammer, or any other game that failed you, then that's on you for having unreasonable expectations. It's also on the companies that made the promises it couldn't keep.
SE is different, they're tight lipped about the whole thing. They dont' say unless they mean and they don't promise if they can't deliver.
You have to be a special kind of stupid to think beta = release, I've played in >30 betas and purchased many at launch and not once have I failed to see improvements between beta and release... sometimes enough, sometimes not enough, but the game ~always~ improves (and often breaks in new ways due to the huge spike of players at launch.)
Funny, I have been playing betas of MMOs since 1998, and never have major systems been revamped in under a week between open beta and release.
Yeah, because they only started working on these things in the last few days at the same time they released information on them. I mean surely they wouldn't start working on major changes to their game without first consulting you, amarite! So there is no way that these changes have been under construction for weeks now. Surely they only shoot from the hip like an American teenager presenting an unprepared book report.
One thing you need to understand about the japanese is that they don't EVER make a promise in their own country that they can't keep. EVER! They don't make a resonable promise and then expect people to understand that shit happens. They don't make stupid promises and then make up excuses. They simply don't promise until they are ready to deliver. They may not care what Americans think but these announcements were made in Japan, in Japanese and the game is releasing everywhere, including Japan all on the same day. We may be having trouble with the translation but you can bet there is nothing in there that will not happen because they would loose face as a company if they did. Not just loose some of their loyal Japanese gamer fans. I mean, CEOs jumping off the fckin roof because of their unacceptable failure, kind of loosing face.
That's why they didn't promise anything specific until one week before release. The goods are already tested and in a patch update ready to go.
Unless you could quote a source about what is being included on a day 1 patch, all you have posted is rampant speculation.

Do you have proof that people have not canceled their preorders?

Would it be hard to actually post the source?
You'd also have to post what the preorders were a month ago and a source to go along with it.
I am willing to bet that there are 500k+ preorders world wide. To be fair to you, that's not how many subscribers SE will have 6 months after release. Vast majority of people try a game out and leave.... but a year from now, you'll see close to 500-700k subscribers.
That's just my conservative guess. 100k NA, 100k EU and 300-500k in Japan with the PS3 release.
yeah, he/she is retard because cant difference with beta= alot of bug and release minus bug
go play cataclysm beta and you can find you are fail
for 2 reason
1 i say you fail and auto you accept it
2 you drunk kool aid so much

This is a good point. I originally had NO intentions of even trying the game, but did so because a friend wanted to have someone to play with in the open beta. I played for a few days and then pre-ordered. All because I liked what I saw in the OB. Sure, it has its problems, but I know how strong FFXI has been over the years and know how SE tends to deliver exactly what they say (despite the fact that I think the FF series has been going downhill since FF10; FF6 is stlil one of my favorite RPGs of all time).
Those 180k preorders are for the PC version only. Even if they only retain 1/3 of those, that's still 60k subs, which is nothing to scoff add. You'll then have people who buy after launch to add to that number. Plus, I have a strong feeling that the population for this game is going to skyrocket once the PS3 version is released. That's a huge market that you simply can't ignore.
The game is going to do fine, regardless of what people here think.
even if the game sucks the game will live longer then 1-2 years same with every game that will come out soon SWTOR or Warhammer 40k will be the same bs :P yes people who dont like the games should stay away from the games they dont like and leave their forums alone then again i wouldnt expect them too but it all comes to people using their own heads and doing things for themselves who cares what other people think about something? obviously it didnt tickle their fancy and i probably dont have the same taste as them , honestly every mmo has its dumb problems some bigger then others or watever but eventually the company will fix it and itll be better then at first .

Where have you been? UI lag has all but disappeared completely over the last week. They've said many times, what we see for content in open beta is a fraction of what there is in the game. The artwork is fine and the game is one of the best looking ones out there, if you don't like it... here is an idea... put your own $50 million together and make your own MMORPG.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
I'm glad all those haters and people proclaiming the game would release in the state it was in beta got pimp slapped....
/sarcasm
Actually, there was a marked improvement in release. Not a miracle patch, but a fair godsend nonetheless: significantly less GUI lag, for example. However, we were mislead about the size of the release client from teh system requirements page and apparently a support email. It was not the massive unlocking of content we were hoping for.

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7

gasp! Have I reacted too soon? I didn't think this was even possible this close to release day.
I cancelled pre-order but this is good info; I'll still wait though, just to see the reviews before I go back and purchase it.
Same. Got burned before with promises of a miracle patch.
