When I played in Star Trek Online's beta I noticed that Cryptic would release new content for us to test and the servers would flood, but when a week or so passed things got slow, then as usual new stuff would come out and again the pop would be high. I think most people don't want to get burned out our don't want to play. Personally I don't like to spend much time in betas because of the fact that all my stuff is going to get deleted. I'm looking forward to both Star Wars: TOR and FF14 and I wouldn't bother beta testing either of them because I already know I want them... so why burn out on it when I can have the "oooohhh/woooow" factor on day 1 with my character that will be with me forever.
I'm just going to go ahead and call BS on the OP on this one. Love to see where he is getting his numbers from, or is he just pulling them out his ass to try and make himself feel better for not getting invited into any teams while he played in beta, and now he is all alone in the starting area while everyone else has moved on?
Yea, that's the defending we need for this game. Him pulling numbers out of his ass is as good as you claiming him a loner in the game. Maybe he did log on and see less and less people? Is it that hard to believe? What's up with gamers falling so quick into denial about their game? People quitting because they don't want to get burnt out? C'mon, it's pretty safe to assume that the majority of players who left are... gone. I'm still reserving judgment until I get the full game. For now, the beta is fine.
I actually had a whole big responce typed out for this one, then I realized...this person here, and the OP...not worth my effort. They are simple trolls, attempting to incite, assuming lots and filling in thier holes with outright lies. Any attempt to communicate with them will result in nothing more than twisted words and further assumptions and lies.
For me, as I stated earlier, just waiting for the 22nd myself. And hopefully none of these people follow us in game.
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
So you admit that the game has nothing to offer you as it is?
Yes, if not nothing, then close to it. Why don't you go parade around that around as a fault in a game in which the developers said they deliberately removed the greater body of the content during the beta?
I'm getting that trainwreck feeling when I read these forums. first symptoms usually involve ardent defenders denying reason and holding firm to their beliefs. First, "It's just beta". then "it's only been out for two months". finally "it's because of bad publicity". finally "what could they have done differently". and years later..."why not make it free-to-play".
If signs of resisting them is all it takes for you to believe society has crumbled, than the terrorists have won.
somebody has to lose...sometimes it's the bad guy, more often it's the less organized guy. If one side loses in direct, unregulated conflict, then the other side diserved to win.
Gotcha. If any group of people slam an MMORPG, if they're organized enough, it's a bad MMORPG.

Seriously, people having criticisms about a game are automatically an organized mob?

I'll letcha know if I see the greater bulk of people with expressing concerns beyond unwillingness to learn something new or tolerate not being lead around by the nose. Until then, I don't think it's fair to call what they're saying criticisms, per se, more like spoiled whining.

Last I heard, in order for it to qualify as spindoctoring, it had to be stretching the truth.

Granted, the game does have some issues that aren't terribly forgivable, such as a laggy GUI and a lack of means to conveniently find items on the pivotal player economy. However, it seems these legitimate complaints are comparatively rare.
You know, it's interesting that there's a term for spindoctoring, but not a term for making something worse through misconstruing it. What would that be? Spinbutchery? Are you a spinbutcher? Because if I look at your post history on these forums, I can see a lot of tripe.
I wonder if you guys realize that the Beta is only a very small part of the Real game that will come out the 22 september ?
Of course its not fun to play more than a week or two , there is not much to do , I am waiting for the real release to come out to play . I had a taste of FFXIV and I liked what I saw , they allready announce a lot of change in the game , UI , mouse hardware , guildleves , that's all I need to know , because those 3 were my only concern of the game.
And do we really need Millions of players to play FFXIV ? I dont think so , it doesnt have to be a WOW , as long as we have an average number of player on each server it's more than enought. Ho and did you guys forgot that a lot of poeple will wait for the PS3 version ?

Exactly. And the thing is, not only is it not like FFXIV needs to be WoW, expert agree, nobody else can be WoW.
If you want WoW, there it is, go to it.
FFXIV serves a different niche. It always has. The sooner people understand that, the sooner they'll stop whining it doesn't play the same.
Vindictus rescently closed their beta and it was full to the last day.
My whole guild was interested in FFXIV early on, but now it is down to like 2 people out of some 30-40. Those 2 people are still playing FFXiV beta to this day, and the rest of us just aren't going to bother with it. When I look at the example of the OP, and I look at the events of my guild's interest in the game. It makes perfect sense to me that people just don't enjoy the game.
another one of these posts slips through the net........ don't you guys have ANYTHING better to do? as i stated before, i played the SHIT out of beta, got in a LS, bullshitted, got lost, got killed gained lvls..... but when i read the announcements SE made i realized, why am i wasting my time, lvling a character that will be deleted? Why should i smash up carpentry to spin a profit when my money is going to be gone in 3 days? its pointless, and therefor, i enjoy FFXIV now by reading about it, and joking and talking with my friends. on Sept. 22nd i will vanish from these forums leaving all you hungry ass trolls to go feast on another game.
There are people who say, but yes those walls are there to protect you, it prevents people from suiciding down a cliff. They went as far to say that people would even complain that they were not protected from running over that cliff. That it's the designers fault if they would die by not implementing them.
I for one think that this is bullocks, coz in real life your not goin to run blindly into a cliff either. But hey everyone has an oppionion, so what is yours?
"I'm spinning that FFXIV is wrong to do this, but hey, everybody has an opinion. " Actually, that's one of the fairest things I've seen you say.
Funny how every bit of negative feedback is regarded as trolling in the eyes of ff fanboys.

Like somebody said in this thread, get some thought out replies in, don't start with the uber childish and worn out remarks like "you're not hardcore enough", "go back to wow", etc ... it's getting really pathetic.
Am I getting on your case now? Yes, because you make it easy for me to do so.
Next time use your brains, put out a well constructed post contradicting FF criticism or ... move on.
You have your choices ... pick one.

Vindictus, huh? Isn't that that arena brawler that was based on Mabinogi? Geeze, I don't even consider them in the same genre. 5 playable characters, 3 in the beta right now, divided into instances contaiing how many players fighting at once? 64? 32? 4? This game, it looks nice and visceral, but I can see completely different reasons to play that over FFXIV. Unless your guild really isn't into MMORPGs much, I could see Vindictus as being little more than a lark at best.
-con crowd states what they like, pro crowd states what they dislike. so far so good until...
-pro crowd denies all con's arguments by "it's just beta".
-so con's start looking for more agressive means to get their points across, pro's continue their path and we got fanboys vs haters.
if only pro's would learn to accept that despite it being only beta, the con's may have some valid points...we'd be so much more civilized.
This would be a great place to be wouldn't it, shame its not accurate. The problem is a majority of the con's valid points are not accurate or true. Take for instance the entire Surplus/Fatigue issue, to this very day there are many who love to argue it stops you from gaining xp after 8 hours, entirely...when in fact that isnt true at all. Or 'there is not help in this game', but there is, they just didnt find it. So how do you 'learn to accept' something that is not true? That is correct, that is why I indented your text and left mine unintended. It's called a block quote. Why I added my text was to clarify to you, in case it wasn't already clear, how what you were saying was spinning. In the last case, you'll note, this was wholly unnecessary.
I think everyone should just wait until release instead of assuming that the game is already dead. I am abosulutely positive that this game will have a great number of players upon release and a great number that will stay as well.
Please come check out my stream. All the love is appreciated!

tearsinrain:
Vindictus is a F2P title, Korean-style grinder. It looks promising in many ways, but the audiences are entirely different thus also the demographics for beta access. I won't touch a F2P game as the communities are generally dire, but that doesn't mean people in general don't like F2P titles.
In regards to your WOW guild not wanting to play; that's not a valid sign that people don't enjoy this game. It's the same for my WOW guild, but my friends in WOW are a completely different type of player to that which FF XIV is likely to attract. Many of them have been playing WOW for years and are just happy to use WOW as a kind of interactive chat room, do the odd raid, dungeon etc. they're not really interested in a more old-school MMO or changing for them what's an old model. Some of them have just plain quit the MMO genre altogether. Many haven't played another MMO nor would they be likely to. WOW in many ways, not just in it's huge popularity, is an exception to the rule. That WOW players don't like FF XIV doesn't mean everyone doesn't like it.
I express an interest in most new MMOs that I hear about because I really like the MMO genre, but I realise I cannot play them all and have to make a decision based on my play-style preference, and those aspects which I find each different MMO has which appeal the most. FF XIV appeals to me for numerous reasons. That doesn't mean I don't understand it isn't for everyone, but I also don't need to defend it to the death, or try and convince everyone it's not a good game fullstop.
Some people like chocolate, some don't. To waste a forum post, let alone 100's as many seem to do (not talking about yourself necessarily) convincing chocolate lovers not to eat chocolate seems without purpose.

For a number of good reasons, I'll refer you to the post you missed on the way into this thread. See if you can understand one or two.
