it was a really great game... you know it was like grand theft auto online.. with lot of action, shooting and great community... there were only 2 errors in this game.. the subscription (in my opinion the game deserved this hour-based payment) and the hacking of many players.... anyway i really enjoyed playing this game and had many good moments!! Thanks Realtime Worlds for this unique experience that we had never seen before in a online rpg!!
Hackers and the horrible match making system killed this game. Otherwise was a decent game, though not worth a monthly fee.
So the company is still in business but they have closed their only source of income? Kill your only possible revenue stream and hope for MyWorld to save the day? Seems like a solid business plan....lol
2.5 months is a very short window. Not sure if we will ever see a MMO close shop this fast again. I still think there is a chance it comes back through sale to a new company or re-release with a more profitable pricing model.
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”
Good riddance! I hope the arrogant yet talentless idiots that worked on this game stay away from any future game developing. Try a janitorial job instead, fellas.

They sold MyWorld. They were depending on the money from the sale of MyWorld to pull them out of bankruptcy and keep APB afloat. And as I predicted on these very forums back when this was all taking place, there was not enough money from MyWorld's sale to do that.

I hope you fall down a flight of stairs.
As long as he manages to do that successfully, he'll stil be more talented than RealTime Worlds' devs.

What is going on with the world today? Do any of you remember how much the game was hyped a year ago. It was anticipated as much as the new Star Wars and Guild Wars 2 right now. Some people did not put their money and mind at the right place. So many games expected to be huge successes struggle for survival right now. Developpers are not able to see that what they offer, although good in some parts, is not enough.
APB had a very rich character customization system and an interesting player driven content in the matchmaking system. However, these were not sufficient. Game developpers, of any company, should ask themselves what kind of game they want to make and really think about it. Are you only making an online game with minimal online interactivity or making a "MMO" with all the deepness and richness it entails as a genre? The missing elements of APB in this matter, the unoptimized system performance, the hacking accusations and actual hacking might all be contributers to the result we now have to face.
I could see, as some developpers said in the announcement, what the game could have been. The untouched potential is enormous and I share the disappointment of those who worked on the project. With all its faults, APB was enjoyable in some aspects and we should not forget that.
While I bought the game, there were way too many ways to continue playing the game free of charge. It was possible to easily buy items from vendors and sell them for RTW points which can be used to buy game time. Some people in the game had subscriptions as far as 2013..
I paid for 2 Months worth of time just buy trading my in-game money for RTW points using the AH.
~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!
Yeah I just made art with the in game stuff and sold it to buy more time, while I waited/hoped they fixed the issues with gameplay. I really hope they are able to resurrect the character creator/customization options for something else, it was quite fantastic, but I got sick of getting wtf pwned by cheaters and hardly ever went into zones, well at least not to mission anyway.
I want to copyright the term Extended Multiplayer Games (EMG) because that's how I think we should start calling many of the latest so called MMORPGs like this one, STO and CO
A MMORPG is something different and developers are constantly drifting away from the essence of MMORPG, but funnily enough tthey always look surprised why their game doesn't succeed.
Yes I know APB major flaws were its technical limits, still I believe the concept was more Battlefield than Everquest
The closed beta was enjoyable into some extent. However, I already wrote in their forums back then that the game is way too repetitive missionwise and that their billing options won't hold. They should had gone the guild wars way (payment) with additionaly a small item mall for some extras that are rather cosmetical or functional without unbalancing the game. Many players told them. I know its not always healthy to hear on everything the players say but in this case they should have cause they lost at least a quarter of their audience right after the closed beta. Their billing options were awful and out of place for a game that didn't offered enough to keep people for the long run. It was fun but it was too repetitive and too limited partially. The editors were great but the editors will get you as far. Sorry for them but its partially their own fault.
APB on Closed Beta was fun. Later on retail version was even better...well APB was something new on MMO market...something exited without orcs, elfs etc.....to bad that next good MMO with all fans, coz of lack of money R.I.P....
How anyone can say this game was good is beyond me when you have hacking and exploiting going on at the level they had,
If you can't come up with a viable funding design for your expected audience, you are just flushing development dollars down the drain as these people did.
Some people don't judge games on the crappy people who play it.
Thank you for saying what I wanted to say, but didn't.
~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!
That may be true if the game was not PvP based and your experience outisde of the crafting is totally dependant on those crappy people woh play it.

It's good that you enjoyed the game whilst it lasted but...it was in no way an online RPG.

I agree. All those issues could have been worked out if they hadn't released the game before it was ready.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
The overall reason it was not successful is obvious and the same reason such a game shouldn't have been made in the first place.
Look at the success of MW2 and Halo Reach. People are buying FPS games by the millions and it is largely for the multiplayer. When you have AAA quality games that let you play against other players for FREE there is no point in making a game that tries to compete with that by making them PAY and then have it be a brand new IP to top it off. It was just a terrible business move in the first place.
As much as everyone always says they want more character customization, that comes AFTER having an amazing game with lots of interesting non-repetitve content. It doesn't matter if you have a very fun character customization if there isn't much to do with the character once it is made.
Bad game ideas and bad business decisions are bound to fail, it shouldn't be surprising to anyone.

If they made this f2p and implemented an anti-hack solution this game might have a fighting chance.

The hackers killed the game. But what's fun is all the hackers who paid large sums for their hacks are doubly out of cash.
The combat was fun, the chases usually were fun, they were making progress with the balancing of the weapons.
I wish it could continue without the hackers... I never did get my cisco charge 1 slotter.... and I never unlocked all the mods to the jericho...
It needed more stuff to do however. And I wish the cop flashing lights would actually *flash*.... /sigh.
MyWorld was bought up by someone else. So the death of APB doesn't mean anything to that side of the business.

The beta lasted longer than the actual released game.
Bad games should die, and no remorse should be felt for them.
Now with 57.3% more flames!

I guess this world only has room for World of Warcraft clones.
Ive said it before and ill say it again, i just feel bad for that human avatar kid.
Imagine how awkward its going to be for him around his friends now.
Hey man, remember when you got payed like ten grand to make yourself look like a douchebag for that game? lol!
No the world just doesn't have room for bad multiplayer GTA clones with boring content.
I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.
I live on the first floor. I try to avoid hights. And you should avoid making bad attempts at piss poor insults.
Ah... If I had a dollar for every fanboy calling me a troll. When i posted my worries for future of APB during open beta.
Its funny though how all those fanboys suddenly seem to shut up and go inot hiding when they are proven so blatantly wrong....
In any case. Damn shame for APB. It could have gone to be sucess - if they didnt try to pull subscription model.
Flagshipped as they say. (who knows what this means , knows)
I agree. All those issues could have been worked out if they hadn't released the game before it was ready.
