Seriously - This is not an MMO it's a XBox game on the PC

BravnikBravnik Member UncommonPosts: 158

Really!? Is this what the current generations expectations of an MMO is? This is an XBox game ported to a PC. Seriously, it's nothing but a bunch of cut scenes and instances. Do you really find an arguement between NPCs in a chat box as fun? Do you really enjoy reading all that text and the banter back and forth in a chat box? I thought Muds were a thing of the past. On top of that there is NO WORLD. There is a lobby and instances only. Calling this an MMO is like calling Halo an MMO. They simply put some graphics to a text based lobby and called it an MMO.

Sure it's fun if your attention span is 5m. It's not what I call an MMO and is not my cup of tea.

It's an online video game and I want to play it.  I could care less what genre it's classified under, so I'm not sure why you do.

Is it fun? Yup. Do I read the dialog? Nope. Do I read the dialog in 90% of MMOs, nope.

Is it an MMO? Nope. Does it entertain you? If so what does it matter what it's defined as?

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Its a casual time-killer thats very well done and extremely fun if thats your type of thing. It never claimed to be anything else.

Like others have said the game is fun. Is it something you could put months , even years into probably not. But for me I will probably play as a secondary MMO to something else. The game his pretty well done at this early stage, which compare to some other recent releases is pretty impressive. Of course this game is  not trying to be as ambitious as other releases but still kudos to the devs in taking pride in their work and trying to put out the best product they could.

Actually it quite clearly claims to be an MMO. Nowhere does it say it's a Casual Time-Killer (which is more the case). I'm not saying it's not fun. Simply it is NOT an MMO thus people like myself don't need to waste our time downloading it. It's not as it is presented. You can find graphical versions of Tic-Tac-Toe online which is fun and has a lot of people playing but that does not make it an MMO.

Games such as this don't belong on MMORPG. It's not an MMO and I don't come to this site to read about XBox Games or Casual Time Killing Games. I come here to read about MMO games coming out and download/join betas of future MMO's. Let Fileplanet promote games such as this and let MMOPRG.COM show us MMO's of the future.

It's an MMO, alright.  It's not a virtual world, which is what you're looking for.  This debate is old - see "Guild Wars".  I really enjoyed GW, this is kind of meh for me so far.   Excellent graphics, nice polish, somewhat fun, but I feel really railroaded along and the combat is already repetitive & dull (level 9 now).  Not much else to sink one's teeth into.  "Crafting" is just collecting trophies, etc.  Skill advancement is mostly small numeric upgrades that you'll hardly notice.  We'll see how long it can hold my interest.

MMO - massive multi-player online.  Is it multi-player?  Yes.  Is it massive?  Depends on your definition.  It certainly doesn't have a massive explorable world.  To me, it's just an MO, not MMO.  It doesn't really matter to me, because it's fun.

That being said, if World of Tanks got pulled from MMORPG, should this be pulled as well.  Will a mmorpg.com reviewer determine it's not really a MMO?

    WRONG.

It has been released overseas under a different name since dec 2009. Stop assuming it is so great and  "polished" for a new release.

I believe it is mabinogi:heroes as the overseas release, but yes I agree this plays like a console game but its still sweet.

World of Tanks is clearly not an RPG.  This clearly is an RPG.  Big difference.  If you pull this, you have to pull Guild Wars (1), D&D Online, and probably a few dozen minor titles that all use the lobby / instance model.  Like it or not, it's one of the industry standard architectures.

My wife and I tried the game today.I played for 10 minutes and left. She played for several hours.Neither of us plan to play the game for at least 30 days..and possibly never.I think we share similar reactions.Positives...stunning graphics....stunning game physics.Negatives:  clunky UI.....instanced world...and one that just did not invite us to be a part of it.

I agree, it's not an MMO. If this is listed so should the diablo games.

This is not an mmorpg, its a Co-rpg.

Games have to stop calling themself mmorpg's seriously. This game is same as Guild wars + demon's souls. The game will be great, i believe and i might buy it, but lets stay on topic. This game is not MMO at all. You go on a boat and chose your location to slay monsters. After your mission, you get back to a Social district where you pick new missions, buy your stuff and make friends.

I accept Guild wars 1 as an mmorpg. Why? Guild wars 1 have a world to explore. Unlike Vindictus, you get on a boat like i said, and chose your location like chosing  a server in a Lobby. So yes, its more fair to keep Guild wars 1 in here. Vindictus should be removed.

Yeah in a sense it's similar to Guild Wars.  I only played a few hours but it seems that besides hubs (cities), it's all instances like GW.

    I agree,

It is NOT an MMO,just like GW1,APB,and Global Agenda(although they have 1 open zone that I never saw 1 other person in)

    Vindictus is still fun though.

So What if its not an MMORPG or a MMO or a MO or an O or a hotdog with mustard, mayo, relish, chili and chedder cheese?Besides it probably called massive because there is a massive amount of people playing it. Well if its not an mmo then there is a shitload of so-called "fake" mmos out there!

    Warrior Epic

    Guildwars

    Lunia

All MMOFPS would be MOFPS then.

Pretty much all lobby based games

    Loco and Lol

So instead of ripping on 1 new game that people are hyped about rip on every single one please so we don't have multiple threads. haha

    And, anyone cares, why?

    Boom!

  • AsheramAsheram Member EpicPosts: 5,078

Seriously who cares what you think it is or is not all I know and care about is that it is fun and nice looking.

  • DrakynnDrakynn Member Posts: 2,030

I would agree that it's nto an MMORPG but liek other's I don't care and new it was gonna be likw this before I ever palyed...it's called paying attention.I think th game is perfectly at home on the PC and the UI is not clunky at all and presents all the information you need quite well.

The only thing that really feels console-like to me is the way the conversations are presented and that doesn't bother me at all.The game also plays very well with mouse and keyboard and I have had no desire to use a gamepad at all unlike another recent onlime RPG that could be mentioned.

I can see myself playing this game for awhile though amybe not in long sessions but it's a blast to play a few quests at a time solo or in groups. The only real issue I cna see so far is that it seems you'll be palying  exactly the same content/story for every character you make which does not make for a good multiple  alt experience .

Vindictus is not MMORPG, its a Fantasy Action MOG - Multiplayer Online Game. Its similar to DDO. Very heavy instanced, free korean game with item mall that will be coming in release version. Thats how they will make money off of this game. There is no PvP in Vindictus, not that I know of at least. Eventually it will be just a raid focused game. You level up then raid on a casual basis.

To get this back on topic a little I think the game is fun and is an MMO in the same sense that GW is. I do hope the dungeons get a little more varied as you go up levels.

So far it consists of run thorugh twisted ruins, smash things for loot, fight minons, avoid a couple traps, fight boss at the end. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Combat is fun though and the game looks nice. I am having stuttering sound for some reason. I updated  my SB FXI extreme drivers but still have the issue. Outside of that and some server lag stuff I have been pleased with this game. Still hoping for more variety in the dungeons later on.

Read the story too, it is pretty good so far.
