You see that is my point. GW is NOT an MMO, DDO is NOT an MMO nor is this game. MMORPG is NOT a site I come too to read about non-MMO games. I come here to catch up on MMO games, get into MMO Betas, See what's new and exciting in the MMO world. This game and others (including DDO, GW) need to be removed from this site and time/reporting/effort spent on actual MMO games.
Is this game fun? Sure. But that does not change the fact that it is NOT an MMO. If this game can be classified as an MMO then Farm Town is an MMO.
I love WoT but I agree that it didn't belong here on MMORPG. The only difference between this and that game is instead of just a garage, you have a couple rooms. The only MMO part of this game is seeing people in town (which is also instanced).
why is everyone so critical trying to label or define what is an "MMO". The term is nto set in stone. Players will have different views on the label.
What matters to me is:
1) Able to interact with lots of different players
2) Play with various players
Vindictus is primalirly instanced. The town is divided by channels. Is there a huge fault in that? NO. It is just a design.
Does having an open world make all the difference? Depends on what you are looking for. Some want to spend hours walking around to explore and kill monsters. Others just want to jump into the action. Instance is just a means to get players to the place they want to and accomplish their goals. The design concept is, people go out into the "world" to fight and do quest". They made it easy to do it by allowing players to immediately go where the need to.
Outside of dungeons, I can find players to interact with. It isn't like Diablo where i have to make a server and have people join in to poulate it (or join someone's server). I log in and there is a "world" populated with poeople. The only difference is i may have ot change channels to find friends. Channels are also just a design as a means to reduce visual lag (anyone tried mass PvP in AION?) and reduce lag.
There is a much larger area in the Korean version that is like a castle. I do not know it that is divided by channels.
You know, even WoW has started to use instances with their dungeons. they understand some players don't want to run for 30 min to reach an area. They understand people don't want to be waiting for and calling out for parties all day.
Vindictus removes much of the excess stuff and got down to the meat of things. This game is much about the action. Does it take away from the game? Only if you are looking for something else, which in such a case, this game is probably not meant for you.

As in all RPGs, players assume the role of a character (often in a fantasy world) and take control over many of that character's actions.[1] MMORPGs are distinguished from single-player or small multi-player RPGs by the number of players, and by the game's persistent world, usually hosted by the game's publisher, which continues to exist and evolve while the player is away from the game. This is often referred to as being offline.
Vindictus does not fall into this category. There is NO PERSISTANT WORLD. You do not interract with a large number of people, you are in a channel which is just another instance. Vindictus is just an arcade style game with a virtual queue. Nothing more. Now that is not to say it is not fun, it is for the short time for those people with short attention spans such as yourself. Those people just want to logon, warp to a fight, fight and log off. Nothing wrong with that except it goes against everything an MMO is.
Don't even mention WOW. WOW is now almost as much a joke as any MMO in the market. There is no longer any Risk vs Reward, No skill needed to play, no end game with any challenge at all. WOTLK ruined WOW for people like me that don't play the game to do stupid boring dailies, but who actually enjoyed the challenge of killing the unkillable in the game. Now any wothless nub can kill the biggest and baddest in the game as they are all so dumbed down.
My POINT again is that Vindictus does not belong on MMORPG.COM as it is NOT an MMO. Period. There is no world. Nothing but channels and instances and channels and instances does NOT make an MMO.
I have no idea why you are trying so hard to nickpick the game in such a way. It seems that this site has a much broader view of what games can be considered MMOs and thus have included them. The admins of the site have deemed it worth including with the many other titles on their site. Why argue against it?
I also know other MMOs that incorporate instances and channels. It's a pretty good design to help occomodate the game and its players. Aion has channels, instances, and persistant worlds.
I am sure we all have experienced the awful opening day mob rush. It's almost as bad as the ladies rush at a bargain sale (yea...bad joke...i know). This is why i have nothing against the use of channels or instances.
I could break so much stuff down and argue, but its a senseless argument to try to.
