All I know is 80% of you would even look at these games FF11 and 14) if they didn't have the Final Fantasy names on them.

I've been playing MMOS since I was 12 (23 now) and FF11 was one of the worse games I'd ever played (the only thing worse was WoW an a few others). FF11 would have been decent if the controls were actually bareable. Having a game with retarded controls doesn't make the game unique or innovative. After getting used to the akward controls, the game is so slow paced its not even funny. A game that has you sitting at your computer for hours hitting monsters is NOT a hardcore game. Its a game for delusional people. Or a game for a culture that likes to sit there and somehow not fall alseep to the slow combat.

There was a lack of direction at the start too.

So it doesnt supprise me that theres a lot of "bad press" about FF14. Thanks to WoW we now have a lot more people that actually think they are gamers now, but they aren't if WoW was heir first mmo, so now more and more people are going to want to have their say and compare both extremes to each one. The extremes being dumbed down game play (WoW) and the other being a complicated series on menus and controls with a game in it somewhere (FF Mmos)

Long story short, I can't wait for Conan's new show.

How is refusing to read the dialogue in a video game a result of laziness?

You do know it is a video game, not a book, right?

You do know since it is a video game, we are playing it purely for entertainment, right?

You do know that entertainment is not a job, right?

Players should be 'lazy' when it comes to entertainment. The people who wish to create these time consuming boring mechanics in a video game really need A) Get a real life job or B) Get a new job that is actually challenging. Trust me, once you are back home from a hard day's work, the last thing on your mind will be to work even more in a video game.

In other words, you're probably just a loser if you want your game to be less 'lazy' or aka a job.

Well said (about the general accusation of being 'lazy' in a game). Whether to read the quest or not should be up to the player (I personally enjoy reading quests most of the time), but the game should never feel like a second job.

You do know it is a video game, not a book, right?  Right, because the interective storyline, the questing, the characters, and the places are totally NOT remniscent of a Robert Jordan/Tolkien Novel including chapters upon chapters of text and dialogue to read.

You do know since it is a video game, we are playing it purely for entertainment, right?

You do know that entertainment is not a job, right?  Entertainment isn't a job!?  You just offended the entire staff at Disney World!  At least half the workers in Hollywood!  The 24hr News channels gasped in horror!  The Magezine editors of the world all cried out and were suddenly silenced!

Even a few members of Congress went "than what am I supposed to be doing if not entertaining!?"

Players should be 'lazy' when it comes to entertainment. Trust me, once you are back home from a hard day's work, the last thing on your mind will be to work even more in a video game.  Right, because sitting in front of a computer, on my most comfortable chair, in air conditioning sipping tea/soda, listening to my favorite band is SO reminiscent of the hard days work I just had...  I mean, moving my character around on a screen is just SO demanding...

In other words, you're probably just a loser if you want your game to be less 'lazy' or aka a job.

I do dream of getting payed to play, but I digress...

Yes, thank you Captain Obvious.  Do you think Star Trek Online would have sold as many copies as it did without the Star Trek name?  Do you think SWToR would be generating as much buzz without the Star Wars name?

I've been playing MMOS since I was 12 (23 now) and FF11 was one of the worse games I'd ever played (the only thing worse was WoW an a few others).

That would mean your first MMO was in 1999.  If you aren't lying, and what you played back then was actually an MMO, your major choices would have been Ultima Online and Everquest.

If it was Ultima, obviously your preference is PvP combat and you won't like FFXI or WoW, both of which are PvE-focused games with PvP added as an afterthought.

If it was Everquest, your hypocrisy is screaming at me because EQ1 was and in many ways still is the most abysmally slow, methodical and difficult MMORPG out there.

FF11 would have been decent if the controls were actually bareable. Having a game with retarded controls doesn't make the game unique or innovative. After getting used to the akward controls, the game is so slow paced its not even funny.

Let me tell you a story.  I have a friend who played FFXI.  After playing with him for awhile, I found out his mom also plays the game.  His mom doesn't have the full use of her right hand due to a motorcycle accident and thus is only capable of typing with one hand, while the injured hand/arm can only use the mouse and even then, with considerable difficulty.

She is unable to play any games with WASD movement or hotkeyed abilities.  She had absolutely no trouble playing FFXI and leveled multiple jobs to 75, having fun the whole time.  If a crippled, 50 year old woman can figure out and successfully use the controls while you find them "difficult", I guess that makes you and everyone else having these difficulties one of two things:

    1) Retarded; or

    2) Too used to the WoW style of WASD movement and hotkey clicking to adapt.

For the sake of not being rude, I'm going to assume it's #2.  Oh wait... you said WoW was worse than FFXI.

I won't even address that.  Say what you will about World of Warcraft and what it has done to the genre, but it's a highly playable game with a lot to like.  My ONLY gripe with WoW is that I am now forced to share my MMORPGs with people like you who expect everything to be handed to them on a glowing gold platter with an exclamation point over it.  Go away please.  There is nothing wrong with a game catering toward your kind, but stop trying to infect every single product that's ever released.

A game that has you sitting at your computer for hours hitting monsters is NOT a hardcore game. Its a game for delusional people. Or a game for a culture that likes to sit there and somehow not fall alseep to the slow combat.

Or a game for people who enjoy interaction.  This may be a foreign concept to you, but some people actually have friends in an MMO, and they appreciate the downtime between pulls, or the auto-attack delay that allows them to carry on conversations with their friends and guild without worrying about whether or not their effectiveness will suffer.

Rather than looking at all the things that make the game not to YOUR liking and then calling the game a flop because YOU don't like it, why not look at the things that made FFXI highly profitable and successful?  Obviously somebody likes it.  People are going to like FFXIV too, the negative press is simply a result of the cadre of mindless drones staggering out of WoW and into this game expecting something similar.

Let me help you out a bit.  Final Fantasy XIV is not for you.  You are not part of the target demographic.  I'm quite sure Squre-Enix is being crushed by the weight of their indifference toward the average WoW player.  If you don't like it, don't play it.

There was a lack of direction at the start too.

"I wasn't led from Point A to Point B for the first 50 levels, and thus the game is too hard.  Also, can someone please change my diaper?"

I can't quite figure out what you're trying to say here, but it sounds like you consider WoW and FFXI/FFXIV as two opposite extremes.  This is simply wrong.  The opposite of WoW would be a game like Darkfall or Mortal Online, games that rely completely and entirely on PvP as their only draw.

Long story short, I can't wait for Conan's new show.

A lot of people would say mmorpg.com is unprofessional. Furthermore MMORPG labels these as First-looks and previews. ETC I never appreciated how much crap they DON'T put in their articles until you said that. I should send them an e-mail.

You wanted my time, so I played you. You wanted my money, I forked it over. You wanted my soul, I gave it willingly. Not to complain... but when do I get my end of the deal? And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.

It would be nice if FF was fully voiced and included sometype of actual story interaction. Its funny when they answer for me and I havent even said anything or given the choice to. FFXIV systems seems a bit.. "out-dated?". I guess that would be the term to say.

The UI is hell, I dont even get why its so DOS like but oh well. There are a few features in the game that make me ponder: "Why did they do it like that?" when we all know(by now) that there are sooooooooooo many better ways of doing it. I think they jus have a old-staff + the 'asian grinder' thing not really up-to-date with US players(mayb one theory)

Games I've Played: SilkRoad, Flyff, NeoCron, PlanetSide, Rapplez, UpshiftRacer, Drift City, TB, Kwonho, ArchLord, AoA, Exteel, WolfTeam, Shaiyan, WoKF, FFXIV, STO, KoTR, ESO, Defiance, Mabinogi

    Games I'm Playing: Warframe/STO

Games I'm Pondering: The Secret World

it's not a US game so I don't see the problem. Have you even seen an ad for FFXIV on american television yet? I sure haven't.

I think you arent on the same page as us here.

FFXIV is a RPG first, then is an MMO. Unlike the rest of MMO´s.

If you dont focus on story and dialogue , then what is the point to play an rpg in the first place?

Maybe just maybe, some people entertain themselfs by playing a book like video game ?(story driven)

Considering the number of MMORPGs out there, how many commercials have you seen - period?  Aside from WoW's various commercials, the only other I have ever seen is the recent commercial for LotRO going pseudo F2P.  Attempting to point to there not having been a TV ad for FFXIV is meaningless.

The simpler question would be is the game being marketed at North America in the least through any avenue?  Are they launching the game in North America?

At which point, it becomes painfully obvious that the game is a console port of an Eastern game with little thought to PC controls nor Western playstyles.

It is little more than a niche game.  Like the pseudo collector of foreign films that would rather have a sub than a dub, it will appeal to the audience it does... but by no means is it anywhere near mainstream in a genre that is not mainstream in of itself..

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

It's still from an Eastern company with eastern ideals. It's kinda childish to think they are going to cut off and kill their cash cow just to make some Westerns happy.

Maybe one day all you losers will wake up and relize your living your life in a MMO(life sim).

We never grow up from high school still trying to impress our peers with material items, and now virtual items we so called, earned? Anotherwards worked for like a job! MMO's are a career in disguise..

    Get out,ride a bike,watch a movie,go swimming,get some sex,go to a concert,etc etc.

GET A REAL LIFE! All this virtual garbage means nothing. Its just written code, written for your virtual life!

FPS,RTS,RPG's dont keep you plugged in to the matrix as long...why? Because you dont have to make a career out of them.

It is rather naive then, no, to complain about some Westerns not being happy, eh?  I would not throw a hissyfit if I tried to sell sand to nomads in the Sahara and they looked at me like I was crazy.  I would not try to sell a thin man diet pills, and wonder why I do not make the sale.  Etc, etc, etc.

If I was a manufacturer of sports attire, specialing in Steelers jerseys and wanted to expand my overall business market outside the Pittsburgh area - would I try to sell Steelers jerseys in Cincinnati, Baltimore, and Cleveland?  Or might I produce Bengals, Ravens, and Browns jerseys for the potential markets?

If I went ahead and tried to sell the Steelers jerseys in Baltimore, should I go around complaining that there is something wrong with the people living there for not liking my jerseys?

    C'mon, it's simple common sense.

I have no idea why you or others appear to be surprised or upset that people do not like the game.  Some have taken the high road on both sides, going with the this game is not for everybody - that really, it is only for a relative few here in the West.  Generally speaking, that is pretty much where it should be left...

...had they actuall considered the market, it would be a different story.

I just want FF VI online with a materia system implemented and a truly non-linear talent tree (sphere, board, whatever). Period. That's old school to me. But that's the good ol' school, friends, not the painful one... >_>

To each their own, to be honest.  While you may prefer to ride a bike, watch a movie, go swimming, have sex, go to a concert, etc, etc... others may prefer to play MMORPGs, etc, etc.

You sound like one of those people that have quit smoking telling the people that still smoke to quit...they are annoying.

A person that becomes addicted to an MMORPG, is just as likely to become addicted to some other activity - that may proove more dangerous overall to their health... don't blame the game.
