I want to be a crafter in this game, but ....

I am in the OB, and trying out the Crafter (I always love to craft in MMOs).....

My problem is, as many people probably have said, don't know how to level.  We started out by just throwing rock and can't do dmg, so is there a way or any advice how to level a crafter?  Or can you share your crafting experience so far in the OB so I know how to start?

Thank you for any info !!

When you are at the inn, there are two people that give out leves.

Local Leves are crafting leves, take those, and do them.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

Starting out will be rough at first due to lack of economy.

Doing the first questline should net you enough money to start out. The crafting guildleves give you some good skill ups and money as well.

Hey Dolmong. I've been thinking about buying FFXIV but I know know alot about it. I have bee reading mixed reviews from it being a boring mmo with no action too a mmo with some action. So any honest reviews either about crafting or pve is most welcomed.

And when you run out of leve's just play a harvester or use money to buy resources and keep crating. You get around 400 exp for physical level per successful craft and/or harvest. Maybe more for crafting I don't remember. And then you also get rank points as well.

It's not that bad,... if you are fishing you can spend 3 gil on a fish and catch a fish that is worth 500+ that's a pretty good return.  As long as you are also harvesting, you will always make a profit crafting.

You wanted my time, so I played you. You wanted my money, I forked it over. You wanted my soul, I gave it willingly. Not to complain... but when do I get my end of the deal? And no, I don't want your flippin' carrot. If you can't do that give me back my youth and keep the change. Why don't you try chasing your own damn carrot for a change? I'll gladly hold the stick.

I think the OP here is expecting to level up crafting by killing Monsters, but it is not the case in FFXIV. You level up your crafting by....crafting stuff or completing Local Leve Quest as some poster has mentionned. Most of the Disciple of Land and Hand's skills simply allows you to run away from mobs, not actually fight them.

    ahh I see....

Well I will try it out later when I finish re-downloading the beta.

Anyway, since you can only choose one of the class for crafting, how do you choose to be harvesting as well?  You get to choose 2 jobs right away at starting level ?

And I heard people saying you can only have one character per server.  Is this true??  I actually quite support this, because it works really well in SWG which really base on crafting community.  However, they need to implement a good system to let people change job when they wanted (like a respec or re-grind levels).

You go to shop.. buy a harvesting weapon.. change from crafting weapon to harvesting weapon... voila, you're a harvester. Costs about 200gil.

Last time I played I had to put all my skills on my bars between equips. Maybe this changed though. And I'm betting they'll make that easier at some point anyway.

Changing jobs in FFXIV is as easy as changing to what ever weapon, crafting, or gathering equipment you need in your main and/or off hand.  That's how you change "jobs" in the game.  You have total freedom to do what ever job you want.  You can also rotate between ALL starter towns doing up to 24 level quests every two days (timer has been reduced, to what I'm not sure).

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Leves are not specific to the city you reside in, they are global. Tried and tested.

The cooldown will, however, be lowered next week.

In FFXIV, you can set-up macros using the in-game set-up. So basically, I could type a macro to Ctrl+1 for my Thaumaturge:

    /equip "Main Hand" "Weathered Scepter"

    /eaction 2 "Scourge"

    /eaction 3 "Banish"

    /eaction 4 "Exhaltation"

    /eaction 5 "Sacrifice"

    and so on...

Then I just press Ctrl+1 and it will automatically equip my Weathered Scepter, and add all the skills I mentionned in the macro to their respective slots on the hotbar.

In all honesty, is this system designed specifically to prevent people from getting too high too fast?

If not, what is the purpose?

I've tested this myself and know for a fact that I did a total of 24 level quest in one setting.  Last week I had the paper I listed them on, but have since thrown it away.

The purpose is for people to group up, and share their leves instead of everyone soloing. You can do virtually limitless amount of leves this way.

But some design issues prevent this from happening. Which is why I'm not going to play until they are fixed.

It's a good system that needs work.

..I think I just described the whole game there.

Yeah, I read about that but was too lazy to implement it in my own game. (since it was beta) :

I'd still put money on them introducing a system that switches skills to previously used skills on weapon switch.

The leves are reset at a fixed time, in which you probably stumped upon on your travels.

OK, explain 8 level quests in Limas, 8 in Ul'dah, and then 8 in forest all in one go?

Yeah... so you are saying that limiting leves is an additional way to specifically prevent people from getting too high too fast along with the fatigue system.

    Cool.

Well the thing is that FFXIV allows players to use skills and weapons from multiple classes. Meaning that should they ever switch weapon and such, they would have to change their hotbar skills manually all the time. With the use of in-game Macros, one can set up his weapon of choice, and all the skills he wants, regardless of class (as long as he has unlocked those skills)
