Publisher FiAA GmbH has announced that The Bible Online will officially launch on September 28th with service provided to Europe and Israel. The Bible Online is a browser-based title that combines elements of realtime strategy and MMORPG as players work through some of the most famous stories in the Bible.

As the leader of their tribe, players have to construct their villages, manage resources and the budget. It is their task to protect their tribe and conquer new lands. They can choose between fighting all alone and forming alliances with other players. Playing the role of Abraham his descendants, users also lead their tribe and raise heroes through hunting and gathering experiences.

There is a possibility, according to the publisher, that the game will be released in other regions at a later date.

If the developer isn't just another christian propaganda organization, well, I am afraid I doubt the stories of the Bible will be exciting enough to make for a good MMO. The whole book is just so poorly written.

Problem with this intellectual property is that all the really exciting stuff was done by characters in the book. Kinda like Lord of the Rings or Dragon Lance.

""But Coyote, you could learn! You only prefer keyboard and mouse because that's all you've ever known!" You might say right before you hug a rainforest and walk in sandals to your drum circle where you're trying to raise group consciousness of ladybugs or whatever it is you dirty goddamn hippies do when you're not busy smoking pot and smelling bad."

Damn, it's a shame they went the RTS route. I stink at RTS games.

Heh. You have obviously never read the bible.

I'm more afraid of the company not being Christian... or at least Jewish. Only someone of this faith can give it the respectful depiction it deserves.

hehe, if the old testament will be part of it there's gonna be a lot of screwing :)

I kinda makes no sence to me for this reason: If you believe the bible to be the true word of God then the events must unfold as written.

If you play this game, and take your own path in a different manner than the way it's written then you have made the game and its content fiction, so then its not a bible game anymore, but rather a game set in the ancient middle east with references to biblical characters

If the game forces you to stay along a path that holds true to the bible, then it will be too rigidly scripted and the walkthrough  has already been published and taught to christiand for centuries. it then wont be much of a challenge, will it?

I think this is good news, there are almost all sort of games based in too many religions, myths, etc...

The Bible stories are both epic and meaningful... and I think any Bible based game have great potential.

About playing a rts game based in the Bible, They could do something like Age of Empires (but online), trying to stay very close to the history of the Bible, but adding some customization and first hand interaction...

I want to test this one.

The older any civilization gets, the more events will cross with other event's anniversaries. That being said, how is your statement relevant?

Yes, it is so poorly written that over 100 million copies are sold every year...  /sarcasm

Maybe I'm the only one thinking: ridiculous or ludicrously ridiculous! But I really can't share any other comment.

I don't agree that the bible is entirely poorly written, but to say every best seller is well written..That's not always the truth. And in the case of bible, people usually buy it for religion matters, curiosity, etc. But not so many copies based on a very well written history.

It's the same reason there were all these christian music groups years back, and why people sell jewelry that relates to chrisitian beliefs like crosses with jewels all over them. People who are devote christians, or just want to pretend (perhaps even to themselves) that they are, will spend lots of money on things related to the religion.

I'm a Christian and I'd give it a shot if I could play it here in the States, be interesting to see what the Devs did with the property.

I'm a hardcore Pentecostal and I agree with your last statement. A person shouldn't need a cross neclace or an "I love Jesus" shirt to show others their faith.

    As for the game........ /facepalm.

So the point of the game is to create enough fear in the player that he/she will devote his life to the game and it's lies so he/she will blindy follow what the game tells him/her to do and send it all ( or at least 10%) their money?? Is the game full of errors and coppied stories from other cultures too? Does the game claim to be the one and only true game out there????
