The game lets you pretty much be and do whatever you want, your not restricted to one class and 2 professions, you can be everything (if you level it all). Sure the game has some flaws like laggy menus, not enough mob spawns, no Auction house or Grand exchange system. But these things along with better optimization will come in time. I'd give it 1 or 2 months and the game will only get better.
It's not just some Console port, SE really wants it's fans and new players to have a awesome and fun experience in this game. Why would they spend Millions developing and testing it just to end up a poor game with no hope?
Give SE a chance, if you think about it, the game is not released yet, only for the collectors. In the next 2 - 3 major content patches, if nothings changed, I'd agree with the complainers and haters, but until then, stop crying guys.
People have been giving developers a 'chance' (paying full price for half baked crap) for some time now.
Were sick of it.
I"M sorry but I completely and whole-heartedly disagree. You don't have a Constitutional or human right to a good mmo. This is a service that you have a CHOICE to pay for, or a CHOICE to forgoe. There is so much information available that you cannot legitimately complaint that you were "swindled."
If anything, this game has been getting so much flack from trolls that I believe the opposite is true. Nobody is forcing you to buy an "incomplete game." Nobody is forcing you to pay the monthly subscription.
It's actually a very simple decision that doesn't effect you in any meaningful way. All you have to do is ask the question, does this game justify the price of admission for me?
If the answer is no, then you havn't spend any money and you haven't "lost" anything. SE even gave a FREE beta access to anyone that wanted it, so you had the chance to decide for yourself before committing. Just because the game doesn't meet your expectations, doesn't meen it doesn't meet mine.
YES, the game has issues, but all I know is that I have been playing since Sept. 22, and havn't looked back.
The most surprising thing for me is how unfinished this game seem to be.
I thought that's a trait of a western- greedy- out of touch with player base -incompetent- lazy lil fuck of a developer.
I'm just commenting on the technical part, I'm not even touching game play.
I never thought that a huge , rich, disciplined and experienced jap company like SE will launch a MMO with technical problems, not in this day and age and after so many fail launches in the last 5 years.
No game have ever recovered from a sucky launch and nothing kills a MMO faster then tech problems, with good PCs costing over 2k bucks, people don't have the patience to deal with lags, DCs and major bugs anymore, and rightly so.
When it comes to Square, I expected to see harikiris performed by companys high officials in a case of a unfinsihed game launch heh, wtf is going on here?
Why is this company ruining it's rep by launching an unfinished crap of a MMO?
It's not like they don't have the money to finish it or anything, I dont get it...

FFXI went through the same growing pains. 90% of the "mmo market HATED it!" They attacked people who played, saying how could someone play this "asian grinder" with "horrible ui" and a "console import" and no "content other than grinding...."
Well 8 years later and having been one of the most successful MMO's of all time, I think it's fair to say that the "fanbois" have a better factual history to back their "we know SE will make this game better better "chant, than the trolls.
You don't have to like a game, but if you can't see in anyway that someone else can love this game, then you are far more closed minded and miopic than you realize.

Well, I think you meant myopic, but to the point...
I don't remember a very poor reception of FFXI. Might've been because the size of the overall gaming community near the end of '03 was much smaller, or that I paid less attention back then, but either way I didn't see that. At any rate, it's a bit ludicrous to excuse the current state of FFXIV because of the progression FFXI took. Even at that, FFXI released in NA with no major issues like the ones seen in FFXIV, and I know because I was in the game within days of its release here. In terms of improvements made to the game, there were never any huge game-changing developments in the (almost) year I spent with the game other than the addition of new jobs, such as summoner etc.. Tweaks and fixes that happened... well, they never affected me to any degree that stands out.
The idea that SE will improve FFXIV tremendously is certainly well-founded - sure - but that doesn't mean people should just accept what they're given when they've paid their money for a product with so many problems from the start. It truly has tarnished my feelings about SE (I speak only for myself, but I know I'm not alone) because this release thus far has looked like a rush out the door in an attempt to capitalize on the season, and the lack of current competition. I mean, fall is gamer primetime for the most part given the cooler weather, school, and many other factors that lead to people hunting something to fill their evenings with indoors.
The main reason for the reply, however, is that you're calling someone myopic for not seeing why people love the game while seemingly being a bit myopic yourself in being incapable of understanding why people hate the game as well (hate; since you used such a strong word with love). You've chosen to accept the game in its current form, and you love it and that's fantastic and perfectly acceptable. However, perhaps you should open up your own eyes and see that others are equally disillusioned due to their disappointment with the current product as you are smitten with it. There's no real sense in arguing over whether or not they should be just because you're enjoying yourself, and the people here who aren't pleased have every right to express that.

Everyone calm down and dont worry... The complainers will only be on FF 14 until the next released MMO. Then they will move on to it complain about it. This is a vicious cycle that has been around for about the last 5-8 years. Complaining is an addiction just like MMO's are.
Let's be honest, most of those games that the masses complained about in the past, did tank.
There is a measure of truth to the saying, "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time."
Another good one would be, "Where there is smoke, there is fire."
How about "A stitch in time ... saves nine."
Apparently, SE did not heed to any of the above.
People have complaned about every MMO release since WoW! Period! Lots of them are still standing. Not sure what your definition of "tanked" is. Please explain. It might be different from mine.
And not sure what world you live in. There is ignorant people all over that get fooled into things they may or may not like all the time. Politics would be a perfect example of this.....

If not, then just naive perhaps?
When will you all realize they dont need one singe NA account for this game to be successful. We are like the icing...
Not to add fuel to any fire, but if you look and read around, the game is being equally poorly received in Japan. If anything, PC subs are icing on the PS3 cake, but that's only if the game really picks up over the next 6 months improvement-wise.

Now that i've had some time away from the forums and get away from it all. I've come to a very different reason why people complain.
It's not the game really. Sure they use the features to boost the reason. But it's not really the game. I found this out after posting too long in this forum. It kinda takes over. It's a beast of a thing really. The reason they go after a game is they don't have anything else to do really.
Sure they may have jobs but if they had a game or something to fill up their time they wouldn't be here posting on the forums. This is a way to pass the time and it gets attention. Sorry but if you attack a game and post saying your looking out for others. Your not really.
Most of the time the real reason they say they are looking out for other is because they feel scorned by the company because they didn't enjoy the game, now they want to hurt the company so they come on here and try and ward off as many players as possible as a haha I hurt you by making you have less of a profit so now we are even.
If they had just moved on, cut their losses, sold the box and played another game they wouldn't need to "watch" out for others. No one is asking them to be the buyer police. I'm sure if the game is as bad as they say it is. The general populace will figure it out all on their own and the game will cease.
If it does not. Perhaps it was just them that they didn't enjoy it. Make up whatever reason you wish this is just how i see it now. It's kinda futile really. Sure you may drive off a few customers, but a company losing a couple of people never hurt them in the least and it won't here.
My opinion on the subject but that was what was asked for.

I bet it will
I cant read Japanese sites to know what they say really. I wouldnt beleive anything the American media says about what is going on in another cournty...not even about a game. But then again I havent really tried to look up what they think either...so...
I do however believe this game will survive. In my own opinion I thought Aion would have sunk by now...but it is doing ok. I thought the same about AoC...both very, very bad games in my opinion but they still exist and with expansions. These forums was FULL of complaining about those games at release too and they still survive.
I will not try to predict the future like everyone else because I dont care to and i know its not possible. I just know I am enjoying the game for now and 6 months from now I may have moved on too. Then again I dont believe hype on games anymore either so I wasnt let down like many others.
Rift for example...I have very little expectations of it but many more are hyping it up. Dont believe the hype and you be fine. If a game is fun for ME then I will play it. When that game is no longer fun I will move on but one thing is garunteed. I wont be here bitching about it. Promise you that....
Pretty much boils down to people dismissing and discrediting naysayers by calling them trolls, and folks buying the game in spite of the fact that some people are trying to advise them against doing so. Those people pay their $75++ to SE because they're fans of the company, the series, or FFXI (or are just desperate for a fresh game and/or something different) and wind up feeling cheated because of just how bad it is - to them. It's not like everyone has $80 to plop down on a completely unreturnable, untradable thing just to give it a shot, so they try to make an informed decision and find out the hard way that their coin-flip landed on the wrong side.
Frankly, I just wonder if what's going on with FFXIV would be tolerated with a completely different IP other than Final Fantasy.
Also, don't get me wrong. I'm just a casual observer of the goings on here, and am patiently waiting to get into the game myself either via buddy key or my own copy once the dust settles. Still, what's gone on this week is pretty difficult to ignore. It's unfortunate that the whole thing has turned into this whole 'Troll vs. Fanboi' scenario that's all too familiar to poor releases these days (ie. CO, DF, APB, etc. etc.).
At any rate, I think the best advice anyone can give or take is to just hang on and wait for things to improve and the dust to settle before blowing cash you really don't need to waste. That goes 2X on the CE, especially seeing that only thing that really looks valuable (aside from a true collector) is the early start.
OH WAIT THEY HAD WEEKS OF OPEN ACCESS FREE BETA TO TRY IT AND DECIDE BEFORE DROPPIN $80? If ANYONE bought the CE and does not plan to play it for a week at the least then you DESERVE to lose that money. It was your fucking mistake for not doing research. You had plenty of time to get both first-hand and off-hand research done, so QQ.
Unfortunately, friend, ya can't hate on people, who may not have had the time to "research" or do the beta test, or read countless threads on a game. Honestly, the pre release threads were a mixed lot, with some promissing views from veteren players...So again, not a valid arguement. Not every game is for every person, but ya can't be hating on people that they deserve to lose money, because they believed in a bill of goods, that they might feel was not delivered. That's just being a bad sport.
I'm sorry I find that a load of bull. People don't normally just buy an MMO. Hell the back says very little about the game itself other than a couple things The Armoury System and Guildleves. Not to mention, its the only MMO that came out in a while(Going Rogue did launch though, as well as the new Aion packaging) so I really do not feel bad for someone who bought a game. I fail to understand your statement, "because they believed in a bill of goods, that they might feel was not delivered." If you do zero research nothing could of not been delivered because the back of the game tells you squat.
Anyone who waste their money on something they didn't research is a SUCKER plain and simple. Do you go to a movie and not even hear or read about any of the story or even know what genre it is in? Hell no. Its been stated on here by many people 50 bucks for a game is a night out. If it sucks no biggie. If you do not have the money to pay if you don't like the game, you need to rethink many things in your life and probably shouldn't be wasting it on an MMO anyways. Then again, I've been that college student living with my girlfriend(now wife) and we barely made it by, but I found an MMO to be the cheapest form of entertainment by far compared to doing other things.
You know when you get real mad and scream into a pillow? Yeah, it's kinda like that. When I get real mad, I throw wrenches at Sonic. Tried a few times with Knuckles. Still recovering from the Bruises.....

Why would they spend Millions developing and testing it just to end up a poor game with no hope?
Look at the majority of major game releases for the past five years for your answer. We have had a string of big budget, under-developed games that have been over hyped and failed to deliver come launch day. And for many FFXIV is just another name to be added to that ever growing list. I don't believe that developers intentially set out to release buggy under-developed, under-tested products (time and budget constraints can be a bitch), but why should they alter their development/release schedules when we as gaming consumers have proven that we will throw money at pretty much anything. We will buy games that are fundamentally broken at their cores and still find a way to paint a pretty picture of the game, glossing over the glaring flaws, simply because we love a certain IP or are so starved for something new to play.
And as long as we keep supporting this practice of financially supporting developers who release under developed/tested products, we have no-one to blame but ourselves for the current state of the MMO industry.
The game itself feels like SE didn't really care about the PC player base, because a lot of obvious UI alterations could have been made for PC players (which many other games have done between different platforms) were just ignored. To me it just feels like PC players are looked at more as paying testers than players.
I love the game, and I hate the game developers to the guts, and above is the soul reason for it. Thank you, sir!

This is subjective. Why would a company do X. I wouldn't use X if you gave it to me for free. What someone deems a failure is very subjective, and once the majority say it doesn't live up to my standards I'll go back to another game(WoW is the majority here) it is considered a failure. Yet in the same sentence people will say, "WoW is an anomaly. Without a doubt, even Blizzards next game will be a failure compared to it." You see the logic in peoples thinking? There is none.
Sure games aren't getting a billion copies, but thats because you have an anamoly out there taking everything and sucking it in. People see one or two things that are different, and people do not like change at all, and they scream the end of the world. We have in a relatively small time of the genre, gotten a game that many many play that basically put "Made by Blizzard" on the genre itself.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

I love the game, and I hate the game developers to the guts, and above is the soul reason for it. Thank you, sir!
It's just another massive failure of a MMO that I might on might not check out in a year to see if it improved and is not a ghost town .
So if everything goes well they'll get at least one more customer in year time, good deal.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.
