I have been seeing a lot of "I bought FF14 blindly, invested in new PC/CE edition etc., and now I'm disappointed" Why don't people do ANY research when buying a video game?
I guess it would be ok if you can easily spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on video games every month. Dumb consumers aren't going to get any help or sympathy from me though. Not talking about opinions on if a game is good or not either. Talking about if someone actually bothered to see if they would personally enjoy the product and use it before buying it.
Faith is stronger than common sense.
According to the "fanboys", Square Enix was supposed to add content in the retail version and the beta was supposed to be 10% of the game.
I think the mods should merge all of these threads into one big I don't like FF14. We get a new one of these ever 10 mins or so.
Yes, this is getting rather old now. Also comparing a Final Fantasy MMORPG to its Offline counter parts doesn't seem fair.
He was using a good/bad scale.
He thinks that most other Square/Enix games were good. He thinks FFXIV is bad.
And it looks like overall he's a Square/Enix fan. A pretty serious one too. He has just been disappointed with this particular game of theirs. I don't think it's unfair to anyone or anything that he feels that way.
Still a weak comparison. Would you think the same if he compared say Super Mario Brother series to Paper Mario or Super Mario RPG? They are for diiferent audiences. And they are only linked in name.
I would if I expected that the makers always make good games only to find that one of the games was not. I would think you've heard of people buying games on the strength of a developers name before. The op didn't as far as I saw make any other comparison other than to say he found SE's other offline games (and I think even the first mmo) to be fun games and this one not.
I'm sorry to have to make fans of the game on this post aware but the criticism of this game is not relegated simply to this site and as one poster stated there is truth in numbers. I for one am not going to predict this games doom or demise but what I can say is there will likely be a very vocal number of supporters of this game disappointed by what they get.
I hope it's none of you guys and you're totally satisfied with what SE releases but this game is going to have a hard time meeting expectations going by what the readers of mmorpg say, and if you guys are new here believe me when I say this community get's it right way more than they get it wrong.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
From my eyes I like the gameplay, crafting is interesting. Gathering is nice as gathering gameplay goes. Plus being able to share nodes is cool, no "hey I was gonna mine that!". Combat is fun to me, I like Age of Conan combat too. FF14 is more laid back in early levels anyhow. Being able to use different abilities like the Thaumaturge http://ffxiv.yg.com/skill/aegis-boon?id=27942 as a Gladiator adds a lot of flavor to classes. I like the stat/elemental complexity and feel a difference with a few points added here and there, which is unusual in these games.
Will I stay here for years? Don't know really have to see how it plays out the next few months.
There are things I dislike as well, mainly UI and new player experience. Things like how to learn about gameplay mechanics are not easily discovered or explained. It's not that hard, but it certainly could be easier in terms of explanation. A big hit is the lack of direction (not really ui marker but guidance) for all activities in game.
I have not experienced the performance complaints I am seeing around forums. Lag is an issue - though expected due to crowding in newbie areas. It thins out and plays as expected in others. This will be a huge concern on the 30th. Must get out of ~1 camps by then.
My point was, all of this (which basically state the same thing) could all be in one thread and have the same effect. There was two i hate FF14 in the 10 second refresh list. Most MMo communities warn/ban the person for making a topic that is already going. It's not like these post are 2 days old or something or abandoned they are still going strong, then someone else comes up and says i hate the UI, the combat is slow. Theres no AH.
This isn't directed at the OP but seriously. why the new topic? those complaints i listed off were said from about 10 other people on this forum.
I say they should be merged because they are basically saying the same thing. Lets not bog down the board with new post when ones directly related are still going strong.
Heres some of the post in my recently Visited Thread list.
Why Square Enix why? (this topic)
Awful performance, bad design, why do they sell it?
I don't think i've ever seen a AAA game so badly recieved.

all of these are in the category i like to call "I hate FF14" because they are all basically saying the same thing.
I choose this thread because it's getting tiring seeing the same thread with the same complaints over and over again, I guess You (the OP) got unlucky but that happens when things like this occur. I hate wading through all these i hate FF14 posts to find something interesting to post about.

I can't play because there is too much lag. It's simply not fun at all.
I died 3 times because a monster was hitting me when I couldn't hit.
It looks like there is no endgame at all. Leveling a virtual character to 50 doesn't even look good in a resume.
The UI is a gamebreaker, too much lag.
Nobody talks.
No official forums.
8 quests/36 hours then what? I log off ?
Seriously, is there any endgame?
This wrecked Vanguard hard in the beginning. People ended up just slamming the game over and over and over again on various sites that were far less moderated than official forums. Not that Vanguard didn't deserve it.
No official forums is actually one of the things I like about this game and I don't know how that could be considered game breaking anyways.
If you were around for Vanguard's release, you would understand why it can be an awful thing for an MMO launch. You may get to experience why it's a bad decision this time around as well.
If a person needs support they can go through the Lodestone website to get it (hopefully, I haven't needed it) or multiple fansites.
If the official forum thing is just to consolidate what you see on the different boards than i'm still happy they don't have an official forum. I'm sure their getting all the feedback they need but I'm personally getting very tired of playing games that conform to what certain people think that everyone wants.
From my experience most forums only really represent a vocal minority and aren't always a great indicator of what the general population is experiencing.

Expecting the same experience from a company producing a different product is both foolish and fool-hardy. If Blizzard decided to release a puzzle game tommorrow should I expect the same level of production I see in Diablo 3? I don't follow companies blindly, but I do follow companies. Just like I don't buy things blindly, but I do buy things.
I tell you a little story from my past that still sticks with me today. Years ago a friend and I played a game called Zillion on the Master System. Loved it. Some time down the line we saw Zillion 2 coming down the pipeline. We took one look at the pics and proclaimed: "What is this sh-t!". Later we rented it because we were curious about the game anyway and lo and behold they turned a awesome game from an action rpg into a action shooter. Glad we didn't jump the gun on that one. Did it change the fact that we still like Sega games? Nope. But it did reinforce the notion that you should know what you're buying BEFORE you buy it.
And for the record, most people loved Zillion 2 more than the original Zillion.....something about less thinking in order to play the game and transforming motorcycles.....go figure.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
I'm a big fan of irony and there are some pretty choice ironic statements in this thread(and a lot of other FFXIV threads here at mmorpg.com lately).
Over and over again, you see the same 3 or 4 FFXIV apologists making statements like
"[Don't like the game, don't complain about it]"
The problem is complaining doesn't do anything all it does it bring out the same people who agree and disagree about it over and over again. People tend to hate people who complain.
and
"[Other websites don't have people complaining like this one, go to FFXIVisthebestgameofalltime.squarenix.com and you'll find real discussion about the game]"
I haven't checked those other sites so i don't know for certain I assume every communities have its ups and downs
Usually followed by:
"[If you didn't research the game and don't like what you spent your money on, it's your fault.]"
Thats cause that part is true. If you buy a cord for you TV and it doesn't work, thats your fault. You didn't buy the right one. It confuses me how people can just buy a game with no research then say they scammed me or were lying to me. How? all the info was right there plain as can see. and it doesn't read like stereo instructions.
Is that not irony at it's best?
Actually that looks like normal discussions to me. but whatever.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

I really hope SE learns their lesson with this one. I dont care what anyone says, this game will be non-existent in NA by the PS3 launch. There is a very very small population of fanbois that will stick with this game no matter what, and thats fine, i'd rather have them stay with it than play good games that i'll be playing.
Developers are going to need to start learning from their mistakes otherwise we are going to end with an MMO market of F2P cash shop games and WOW.
I understand, its all business, and SE probably figured they could make enough money off of pre-orders and fanbois to not worry about the massive fallout of subscriptions the second month of gameplay.
IS THIS THE NEW TREND WITH MMO'S?
ARE WE NO LONGER HOPING TO HAVE GAMES THAT CAN BE PLAYED FOR 5 YEARS?
I DUNNO, BUT IF AN MMORPG HAS A LIFE SPAN FOR MOST PEOPLE OF ABOUT 1-3 MONTHS, THEN I DONT THINK IT SHOULD BE CALLED AN MMORPG.
MAYBE AN MORPG, OR EVEN DROP THE "M" AND ITS JUST AN ORPG.

The first problem is your going into a discussion with the idea that you don't care what others think, why are you discussing this again? Anyhow, i think regardless this game will do well. Finally can i have that crystal ball you have? does it really tell the future?
Developers are going to need to start learning from their mistakes otherwise we are going to end with an MMO market of F2P cash shop games and WOW.
I'm so not going to ask what mistakes these are cause i already know. some agree they are problems while they believe others are style. It's down to personal taste.

How does lifespan remove the massively part, or the multiplayer?
You seem very enthusiastic about your point, A for effort. But you shot yourself in the foot in several instances.
I'll list em, first off: You can't go into a debate and say i don't care what the other side says.
Second shouting does not get your point across any better, no matter how much you try.
thridly stating inaccuracies and guessing at the future tends to make people wonder how your coming at these conclusions.

Majority of the reasons the OP gave seem to be Computer / Internet problems, misunderstanding and just not giving the game a chance. It's like the large majority of these complainers turn it on for 5 mins then quit... Frustrates me a little.
I've actually stopped playing (for the time being) for reasons similar to this.
I know the game has its share of problems/issues atm, but I see a lot of potential with this game. I absolutely love the world, visuals, sounds and story, but I felt the lag, trouble with finding mobs due to the sheer amount of players, along with bugs, were ruining the experience for me. So, I decided to hold off for awhile until things settle a bit. It does suck for the reason that I have 30 days of play-time I'm giving up by doing so, but I want to enjoy the game, not get frustrated by it. And, I think that that is a big reason why we are seeing so many people getting so irritated.
Therefore, it might be best for some to hold off until some of the issues mentioned above are resolved. While I realize there are those that are are going to dislike this game regardless, as it's simply not their cup of tea, I believe there are some that would probably enjoy it more after things have cooled down a bit.
Yeah. I was led to believe that sites like these were driven to support and discuss the MMO's that we play and love. Scary that this isn't the case...
I know right? People with differing opinions on matters. Scary concept indeed.
Although on a side note it would be nice if people would simply confine their remarks to topics that already have their sentiment rather than making another one. Not that this is anything new but it does get annoying I'm sure for those that do enjoy the game. It will die down in a few weeks though.
Then you won't have to worry about another barrage until the PS3 launch
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Yeah. I was led to believe that sites like these were driven to support and discuss the MMO's that we play and love. Scary that this isn't the case...
Why is it always the "fans" of these games that want to limit the scope of discussion? Sites like these are designed for people to discuss mmo's, whether its positive or negative comments. How about they consolidate all the "we love FF14" posts in one sticky? If you want a site that doesn't allow negativety about your precious, then just visit the official fourms. Oh wait...FF14 doesn't have any. Guess you're stuck here with all the meanies.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
Frankly i wish they'd do that for both, though the i love the game list will be considerably shorter then the dislike because the likes are playing the game. While the dislikes are here stating why they don't like the game. You gotta at least admit that alot of the threads are repeating themselves. it's not restricting scope. It's cleaning up. I still have 5 blocks but they are stack in a pile instead of laying all across the floor to get tripped over when i'm looking for something else.

Welcome to internet forums, where the same topic is discussed many times. Hardly anyone goes through the pages and pages of stickies on a single topic. Your topic/point will get lost in the many pages.

Really, if you dont think there needs to be some modding here you need to get out more, this forum doesnt need 100 threads on teh same topic, especially where most can be boiled down to trolling/waah i dont like the game posts.

Give it a few weeks and things will calm down. This always happens when new mmo's are released. The meanies get their kicks in, the "fans" (can't call anyone a fanboy here anymore) get their panties in a bunch because their precious is being attacked and then everything goes back to normal after the first month or so. If it bothers you so much, either find some other forum for your FF14 info or don't click on the topics like the one started by the OP here.
My point was that its always the "fans" that want to limit what people can and can't post about a game. Have something positive to say? Great, post away. Something negative? No way, you can't do that here, do it somewhere else, why do you people have to hate on game X? I've yet to see a "hater" try and dictate to others what they can and can't post, yet it happens all the time with the "fans".

No I am not like that.. I am fine with people discussing the pros and cons of a game. But the level of negativity is really atrocious, just uncalled for. And I'd rather hear something constructive for once, rather than something stupid like "This Blows."

MAYBE AN MORPG, OR EVEN DROP THE "M" AND ITS JUST AN ORPG.
X was not a scam. X-2 was. X was awesome
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Your fail comment, failed.

This game never looked good from day 1.
Why is it always the fans that actually discuss points of the game, instead of spamming the forum with 100 threads about how the op and there dog hate FF14 and everyone else should too.
Really, if you dont think there needs to be some modding here you need to get out more, this forum doesnt need 100 threads on teh same topic, especially where most can be boiled down to trolling/waah i dont like the game posts.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
Fixed that for you, as people disagree with the idea and the game does actually look good.

Positive... negative..... at least try to be at least a little constuctive.
"I hate this pos game... why has SE wronged me!"
"I like this game it makes me happy in the pants!"
"I hate this game and now I want to break shit!"
"I like this game and now i'm pregnant with jesus's baby!"
If you dislike the game fine dislike it but at least try to give a little detail as to why you don't like it, if you don't than your just crying.
If you like the game fine like it but don't oversell the crap out of it and make promises the game can't keep.
If your posting in statements without following it up there is no discussion on either side and it just slides into a big pile of crap.
just my 2 cents
No I am not like that.. I am fine with people discussing the pros and cons of a game. But the level of negativity is really atrocious, just uncalled for. And I'd rather hear something constructive for once, rather than something stupid like "This Blows."
