just a month ago this game was in the 8.30s and was seeming to rise till vids and more infor came out of the various conventions. unlike some games like ff 14 which is being hammered hard with negativity, rifts does not seem that way.
whats going on? the news we have been recieving did show promise. there are many great ideas being implemented into the game. so why is it suddenly dropping? Have people started to lose interest or is there a hidden troll infestation somwhere?

Also the thing changes everytime an mmo shows something. This past week SWTOR showed the smuggler class and revealed the wookie companion.
*sighs* i know in a way it does not mean much, however watching swtor decline after mentioning a few things made sence it slowly declined then stood steady at one point. rifts had alot of votes casts as a promising title then has suddenly been dindling down dramaticly.
It is now on the radar of the GW2 and whatever guys, and they see it as a threat, so they mark it to a zero.
MMORPG hype has always been like this... mark your game up to 10, mark all other games down to zero. It's just that Rift has been flying under the radar of the followers of other games up to now.
MMORPG.coms hype score os nothing to be celebrated or feared. It's junk.
if that be the case why isnt swtor and tera being slammed to the ground?
They are not?
It takes one to know one.
There just hasn't been much info released since Gamescon. I was hoping for some gameplay vids from PAX from Trion, instead of cam vids.
I'm hoping Trion decides to release some fun gameplay vids soon though, as the screen shots on the official site don't do the game justice in my opinion. They still have to release the last few classes officially, so maybe we'll see something soon.
Err since when does the hype meter here say anything?
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
Trion hasn't established its reputation in the MMO market yet, and a lot of users don't want to put their trust on an unknown company. A good chunk of hype is often based on the reputation of a developers, such as Blizzard or ArenaNet.
Moreover, a lot of users are not seeing anything new or flashy in what was released yet, and are labeling it as WoW-Clone... You can read that when browsing comments on the hype section such as: "Meh another wow clone woth everquest graphics. And zero gameplay. 2011s big fail"
Maybe some work needs to be done on PR from Trion Worlds, though it may be a little early for such an investment.
Hype is not the same thing as ratings. It is what it is - a measurement of how excited people are about an upcoming title.

Which those are exactly the people that anyone with some savvy should avoid taking advice from. Making that comment shows that the person really hasn't looked into the game at all. I'm not saying that Rift is "innovating the genre" BOOM BOOM BOOM!!! What I am saying it that they are doing a few things with their own slant and as such it isn't a "wow-clone".
That said I haven't voted on hype since Age of Conan. It's just proven to be to be like those comments section at the bottom of Yahoo! articles, especially the political articles: Full of inflamatory people who aren't worth my time. *shrug*
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."

So you are defending the Hype Meter. What game are you rooting for?
I took this from another one of your posts and I quote, "Isn't 'hype' all about popularity? To me it's not the critics rating. It's just a popularity rating. It is somewhat representative of the mmorpg.com population."
I think the, "Who is Trion?" thing is negative hype from GW2 and SWTOR fanbois to discredit a very real threat in this mmo race. Who was arena net before Guild Wars? I could draw this into a long drawn out argument but I wont.
Lets make this simple shall we. If a company is spending 40+ million on a mmo and have talent, the company is in for the long haul.
I have seen established companies make shit games and I have seen new companies make quality games. Anyone who drops the "Who is Trion? These guys are nobodys etc".... most of the time I see it as a political move designed to discredit and nothing more.
The comments in the hype section are easily just as stupid, ignorant and flat out biased with a very pointed agenda.
The fact that you support the system leads me to believe you are part of the problem.
Uh? Since when this is a YEAH or NAY vote on the hype meter? Moreover, I commented on why it is showing up this result about Rift. I did not say I approve this Hype Meter or not.
I agree that some well established companies crashed and burned after a bad release, and some companies have their reputation working against them when they release a new product (see Cryptic Studios).
Though, reputation remains an important factor on the hype of a game. I'm sorry that you don't feel its right, but it is what it is. The same goes for car companies, food, and so on.
I, for one, welcome a new company in the market. They grabbed few good names in the industry. The quality of their presentation impressed many authors of game reviews with a very playable demo MONTHS before their beta phase, which very few game developers have ever accomplished. Even when looking at their job posting, they seem to be looking for quality driven software engineers instead of script kiddies. Those factors all make this game very attractive to me.
Despite this, I still think Trion Worlds' reputation still needs to be done, and that's one explanation why you are seeing what you see with this Hype Meter.
The rest of your post is driven by overemotional critics so I won't comment on it.
YEA, We need a new site. One where without all the noobs that make AC2 a game not even in production the #1 hit of the day.
No reputation?
Seems you know little of Trion, so here is some education. Hope it helps. :-)
"Trion Worlds, Inc., is a premiere publisher and developer of connected video games. Our creative and executive teams, comprised of some of the most respected names in the industry, have worked on blockbuster games and franchises from Aion and World of Warcraft to EverQuest and Pogo. Trion is redefining what a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game can be."
And I hyped both "Rift" and GW2" a 10 as they both seem to be what I am looking for in gaming.
"My Fantasy is having two men at once...
One Cooking and One Cleaning!"
---------------------------
"A good man can make you feel sexy,
strong and able to take on the whole world...
oh sorry...that's wine...wine does that..."
What I mean by reputation is that the company has yet to release a game. They need to show us what they can do as a team with talented names. And I mean no disrespect. I'm as eager as you so see what they have to offer.
I agree, a game has been in waiting and overdue. hehe
It will be hard if they both (Rift, GW2) release around the same timeframe. Playing both at the same time could be difficult.:)

It will get destroyed by complainers, give it time. They are just busy with FF 14 right now. They will eventually move on.
You gave examples of how the HYPE rating was reflective of the community by citing comments about RIFT. Whether you approve of the hype rating or not is really inconsequential at this point. You think it works, you said as much. I dont.
If in a political race you were allowed to make 1 positive vote and 50,000 negative votes, how balanced would that be? Would that show what canidate was really the most popular? That is in a nutshell the hype system of MMORPG.COM.
I am sure reputation matters. That point I am not arguing. I understand among us forum nerds, reputation is huge. But ultimately, it doesnt decide the fate or more importantly the quality of the game.
I'm over emotional, says the rock.
I don't intend to defend it that much... But you may only cast your hype once per game, not 50,000 times. Unless you create 50,000 accounts to vote 0, but I don't think anyone hates Rift that much (and it may catch the eye of the site admin).
What I'm trying to do is to understand the results. What you're trying to do is to discredit or reject the tool. We all have our own way of viewing or discussing things.
Honestly I'm not excited about Rift one bit. And I love mmos. Hell I love indie mmos, but Rift has not shown anything and I mean ANYTHING I haven't seen before at this stage of the game. Graphics are cool, branching classes....meh, rift hotspots...double meh. When you've been exposed to the mmo horse and buggy as much as I have, putting some bling bilng on the buggy and upgrading the horse ain't gonna do nothing but make it seem like a prettier horse and buggy. It rides pretty much the same, controls the same and structured the same.
So I see it as a lot of people, myself included, as sitting in the back and waiting for something more to justify getting hype about it any more than we have. Nothing wrong with that, but I'm not gonna get crazy hyped about something so....so....traditional....
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Ah friend, but its not about hating RIFT, its about liking GAME-X. In fact "I love GAME-X so much I'm going to make 15 accounts to hype GAME-X. Whats that you say? GAME-Z is better then GAME-X? Watch what happens to the hype meter for GAME-Z. "
Thats how hype ratings go on MMORPG.com.
I can think of one mmo that has been doing exactly that for 6 years running, at least this game isnt aimed at the ebaums/4chan brats currently infesting the afore mentioned behemoth!
After this PEACE! OK? ME AND YOU BUDDY! You dont seem quite so unreasonable that I actually think I need a cyber nemesis.
With regards to my post, I do indeed realize that no one can vote that many times. But since there is no real election and no clear cut winner, really it boils down to opinion in mass. I can make as many comments as I want about games. And I can make as many accounts if I want to vote as many times as I want. And people do indeed go that far.
There very well may be 1000 XYZ fans that like XYZ so much, that they give everything else a poor game rating regardless of whether they like it or not. They dont dig deep and they make the most superficial comments possible because they just want to throw mud. They will not take the time to see if there assertions are correct because ultimately, they do not care. And it is this collective voice that the average gamer hears sees more than anything else.
My concern with the hype system comes in when people actually buy into it, and buy into those superficial comments. I agree everyone wont like the same game but if they are turned away from the game by lies and half truths, well then that bothers me.
And look at the time
I must be going. I hope I didnt derail the thread.
I enjoyed your post and I know what you mean about not getting as hyped (Ive been let down plenty) but the examples you gave don't fit your argument. That is in my opinion obviously.
Lets take the class system in RIFT -I haven't seen any other game that has given quite as much options when it comes to building a class. No other game will let you have 4 specs that I know of at least.
And the choices are broad. To be able to play a rogue (stealth, poisons, stuns) and be able to switch to a bard (buffs, regens, aoe effects) and again to switch to a Hunter type (pet, traps, ranged) ---this system has got me excited.
Even in WoW its only 2 specs....that basically boils down to your pvp spec, and your pve spec. And while I am in the middle of a battleground, I cant change specs like I would be able to in RIFT (out of combat ofcourse).
The reality is the "hype meter" has been dropping because Trion hasn't really released any new info since PAX. So people are getting antsy. The beta is also supposedly right around the corner so people are pissing and moaning about the lack of news on the beta.
Replying to your post directly, i understand that you're the type of person/gamer that likes things to be drastically different from what you've done previously before you can enjoy something. You probably couldn't eat hamburgers three days in a row for example.
But, that doesnt make your view correct. A lot of us like traditional. A lot of us have been waiting for traditional, while the developers have been busy trying to appease the "change" people. AoC's combat system wasnt enough, Aion's flight system wasn't enough. The reality is the change people constantly bitch that they want something "new and innovative" yet none of them can ever vocalize what that is, and they're never happy with anything developers come up with. Instead of looking at themselves as the problem, they blame developers, "traditionalists", etc. They really just don't know what they want, are probably bored with the genre, or bored with life in general, and are projecting their bullshit onto the rest of us.
The other thing i will never be able to wrap my head around is why people sign up and post in forums for games they dont like or have no intention of playing. I understand why trolls do it, they're trolls. But people who come on and make semi rational posts saying why they don't like this game....who gives a shit honestly. The people here are here because they like what they see. You are not a prophet, you're not going to suddenly convert us and make us "see the light". We are all just as jaded and embittered as you, but we're willing to admit that we like what we like, and so be it.
