Are you fucking kidding me son? You've got so little to do in your life you go into a thread asking people what they like about FF14 and do a right up about how a guy that responds appropiately is wrong.
My pre-order only arrived yesterday and I was expecting the game to be horrible given the criticisms on the forum. Played for about 8 hours, I like the feel of the game and the combat/fishing system. I think the NPC's are more credible than in other games. Graphics are good, but my computer isn't good so I have the settings on low. And I actually prefer the UI to traditional MMO's, though I suppose if you weren't overly intelligent it could be a problem.
Are you trying to fool yourself in order to justify wasting $60? Lunar: The Silver Star had a better UI back in the early 90's.
LOL
Intelligence indeed....
Lunar was also way more challenging than anything in this game.
There is a lot to like about the game, but the most concise way to put it is that it plays like a video game, and not a MMO, if that makes sense. Maybe it's the combat system, maybe it's the way of the scale of the world feels more real than most MMOs, or maybe it's the interesting guildleve system. But whatever it is, the feel of the game is vastly different from most MMOs, and it's a difference I like.
I actually only have three complaints with the game:
One, when crafting, switching between windows to each part of the process is far slower than it should be, slower than what you can attribute to lag.
The chat window is lacking. It needs to be revamped, but for the moment I would be happy if I could simply enter more than half a sentence without needing to enter what I have and start on a new line.
Character creation options are more limited than they should be. When you're using a non-slider based system, there's no reason for you to have so few options available for each detail.
However, in the spirit of the thread, let's focus on everything I DO like.
The graphics are gorgeous, and the the texture details are nearly photorealistic in places.
The animations are perfect, without being over the top like Aion (which I admit I actually like). The Lalafel running animation makes me squeal every time I see it.
I adore the art direction in the game. It definitely screams Final Fantasy.
The music is fantastic.
The game controls beautifully with a controller. It took me about two days to get used to using the mouse and keyboard with the UI, but using a controller is second nature almost immediately.
The crafting system is fantastic, my favorite in any MMO I've played.
The same can be said of the gathering system.
People have been lamenting the dominance of class-based games, and yet here is a game that stands the concept behind classes on its head. It's a very, very open system, and looks like there will be an amazing number of ways to combine the various classes.
Being able to be everything on one character is fantastic. I was skeptical at first, but it's been really fun so far.
There's a lot of flexibility in the system. Currently I have an archer who casts conjurer heals and buffs like stoneskin, and I'm not even scratching the surface of what should eventually be possible.
I player-driven economies.
My character has her own stall in the market ward where her retainer sells her crafted stuffs. How neat is that?
The main storylines are all fantastic. Extra kudos for the camera work - there's a wonderful sense of urgency in some of them that you don't see very often outside of movies.
Grouping together for leves is so much fun in this game. I think this is due mainly to the more strategic nature of the combat system. I'm really looking forward to my first dungeon/castle/catacombs/whatever it'll be in the game.
So yes, I'm enjoying the game. It's not perfect, but it's much, much better than people on this forum give it credit for.
I've been playing since the CE release and I am having a ball. I have to agree that most folks who enjoy the game are ingame playing and the folks on the forums are just a minority of the player base.
What do I like about it so far?
1. I love the cutscenes, they are amazing. I also like that you can turn them off if you wish. I also enjoyed the cutscenes in FFXI and I'm glad that there are more of them in XIV. They aren't everywhere which is great because I've been turned off by games that use to many of them.
2. I enjoy that there's no big exclamation points and question marks over the NPCs heads. I never cared for games that had them. It really breaks immersion for me. Let's just say I havn't been immersed in a game for a long time before now.
3. Being able to level every class on one character if I should choose .. yes please!! This way you can make the character that you want.
4. Being able to switch classes with the click of a button is a great feature. It is nice not having to run to town to switch up your class.
5. I like Guildleves and can't wait to see what types they add with future patches and expansions.
6. I enjoy that this game has an "oldschool" feel to it. Things take time to figure out. Yes, I enjoy a game that makes you think. Perhaps it's because I've been a DM for 20+ years. My first MMO was EQ at launch.
7. So far the community has been great. I havn't joined a LS yet, but people have been helpful with info or just doing Guildleves with them.
8. No world chat!! In other games the world chat is where you get the Chuck Norris jokes and the stupid petty arguments. Just say, shout, tell, and LS chat.
9. The grafics in FFXIV are amazing. I may have to upgrade my grafics card to dee what they are like on higher settings. I almost didn't buy XIV because of the benchmark. I bought it anyways and can run it on medhigh settings.
Don't listen to all the negative posts about FFXIV, try it out for yourself, you may be surprised. Is it a perfect MMO? Nope, but no MMO on the market is perfect, especially at launch. Personaly I am loving it and will be playing for a very long time.

This is such an emotional roller coaster ride
So exhausting.
I would recommend trying it yourself. You may like it. Some people do. You may hate it. MOST people do. Actually, this is also incorrect. Honestly, there are probably about as many people that dislike it as there are those who like it. The majority of people don't care one way or the other and won't play it anyways.
Crafting..crafting..mining..mining....oh GOD so addicting hahaha. I love this game just for its crafting. Its quite a challenge and i love it. I haven't visited any websites to check recepies. I like to discover on my own. So far 14 self discovered recepies and counting.
What more a gamers can ask for? i don't need game companies to hold my hand. I am a big boy i will figure things out on my own.

oh, I'm sure i will like it. I am easily entertained lol
For the most part, if you give me pretty graphics with cute characters I am happy
A complicated UI and troublesome UI, howerver, is a bummer. I'm bad with computers as it is I really don't want to be fumbling with a lot of keys and macros and stuff.

It's really the only thing that has me worried.
Then I would definitely save yourself the aggravation. I'm good with computers, and it still pissed me off. Not to the point that I quit, just took forever to get used to. And God FORBID you play a caster class. Click mob, click spell, click mob again? WTF. What made me quit was the absolute lack of anything to do but grind quests. Apparently, that's part of the great narative of this game, outside of the story quests. If that is the case, someone tell AION they made the best story ever told. Killing x of y mob z times ad nauseum is boring.
I didn't really care for the game at first, mostly just bought it out of boredom, but I've starting to really like the game. The more I play, the more I'm reminded of the openess and freedom of UO (minus the pvp). Not sure if I'll stay for the long haul, but I'm definitely starting to enjoy the game more.

When I played the Beta I liked the game but I told myself "I wont be itching to play it constantly like I did FFXI".
I was wrong.
I really don't get how people can say there is nothing to do in this game. Just because you dont have a quest telling you to do something you're not allowed to do it?
After doing some leves on my Pugalist I went fishing. Ive always loved fishing and the fact that FFXIV makes it so much more engaging then just wait until your catch something or click when the lure bobs is awesome. I then went and cooked some cod I caught, the crafting system is equally as thought provoking and interesting. I still havent gotten the hang of it completely. Now this is where both FFXI and FFXIV shine for me, seeing the Salted Cod sitting in your inventory gives you a feeling of pride and accomplishment. Im working on Armorer now so I can wear equipment I made too. Its one thing to just have an item and wear it, but totally different when you spent hours collecting the materials, and after a few failures were finally successful on crafting it.
I understand that some people think its dumb that you have to spend so much time doing things other games have so easy, like crafting, but thats why its so much better to me. Everything is worth the effort. Youll get some gear from quests or many bosses, but everything you craft will have a worth to it.
I'm overwhelmed by how much I want to do. Now that my Pugalist is a bit higher level I want to make gear for it. I want to make a new skillet for myself for cooking, a new rod and bait for fishing. I want to make more food to sell. I want to level up so I can kill some Salamanders and Gobbue and see what they drop. I want to explore and find more places to fish and catch new different things.
People also dont give enough credit to be able to have all classes on one character, its really great. Being able to mix and match skills as well is really sweet. I hate having to make alts and redoing much of the same content. Playing a different class on FFXIV is nothing like just playing an alt. You have access to all of your other jobs skills and dont have to go trading to use items or money. You also dont have to go around collecting all the teleport points again. Plus, your physical level is shared between all classes so each class you level up has it a be easier than the previous.
I understand its not the game for everyone, but I had to wait in a queue to log in on Saturday and its not even the standard release yet! There are currently seventeen packed servers, I bet more will have to be open. The game is good and going to be very popular. Saying its going to fail or SE messed up is just silly. Its fine though, as others have said, most people arent here because their playing the game and enjoying it.

Interesting how threads that say they like the game, without specifying a reason, are not labeled as troll threads where the opposite, saying they dont like the game, is.
I would say both are equally useless and equally trolling.
Enjoyed: WOW 5 1/2 yrs, LOTRO 3yrs, GW 1/2yr, DFO 1yr, EVE Online 3yrs, and Huxley (Beta).
Failed to impress: GW2 3months, Tera Online 6 months (best combat system in any MMO I've played) STO 1/4yr, Aion 1/2yr, AoC 1yr, CO, Fallen Earth, DDO, EQ2 1/2yr, WAR 1/2yr, Lineage 2 and FF XI 1/2yr, FF XIV.

You should definitely try it if you think you might like it xD. Oh, and cute characters/animations ftw. Go through all the emotes, they're really wonderful.
I'm using keyboard and mouse to play. If I can manage it, probably anyone could, haha. The UI is wonky, yeah, and even a little frustrating, but for many who enjoy the other aspects of FF14 it's not a show stopper or anything.
@dreamscaper - Very nice post. You said so many of the things I like too.
I'm sorry but I was in the beta, for over 2months and the final game itself has barley improved.
The graphics in the game, lol are a joke, Square doesn't know how to really utilize the Unreal 3 Engine, it just looks incomplete. Maybe after a few huge tweaks that can polish the look up, but that will be in a few years when they will probably even touch that department.
Considering they're not using the Unreal 3 engine, I'm not sure I see your point. FFXIV runs on their own Crystal Tools engine.

FFXIV is the greatest game that I will never play in my whole life.
It is funny, that people believe that positive comments deserve their own thread - much in the same way that people believe that negative comments deserve their own thread.
It just leads to the same discussions taking place over and over.
It is almost a MMORPG in of itself... repetitive rails.

Lunar was also way more challenging than anything in this game.
I'm on of the people currently enjoying the game.
I was going to wait, but now you make me want to playyyyy ...
The best thing about FFXIV are the airships in the sky because you can look up and daydream about them flying you to a better game.
Ok then, well now I don't want to play it again.
Okay, I know I'll probably get issued a warning, but that's funny right thar. I dun care who ya are.
Hmm ... I don't know if I should believe you.
Whatever he/she said is true what is there not to believe? if you make it more clear maybe i can throw some light on it?
