In an announcement today, SE stated some changes to the Market system are going to be implemented in the next one to two weeks to make it easier for players to buy and sell.
Ultimately, each ward of the Market will be for a different type of merchandise. If you sell an item that corresponds to that wards item type, the tax will be lessened. If you sell something not of the right type, the tax will be the same.
Should makes things worlds easier for people shopping for a particular something.

Q. I have read that there are changes planned to improve the market system, but is there any more specific information available regarding these changes and the direction the market system will take?
A. We have continued to receive copious amounts of feedback regarding changes that players would like to see made to the market system. As a result, we are planning a number of revisions and additions to the system, the first of which are scheduled to be implemented in the next one to two weeks.
Specifically, market wards will be organized according to specific item types, making it easier to consolidate similar items in the same area. Further, if an item sold within a ward corresponds to that wards’ item type, the tax incurred will be reduced. Items not of that ward’s category may still be sold, but the tax imposed will remain the same as it has up until now.

I'm happy that they're being pretty snappy with the feedback.
Although it's no AH, I think dividing the market wards into particular items will help out a lot.
In other news, I did a behest with some random people the other day at skull valley. It was quite fun.
EDIT: oh yeah the possibility of more retainers sounds quite nice too since my inventory is bursting to the seams. Hopefully those options won't take real money >_>
This is a really nice change, and one that I hadn't thought of. I'm just really glad they're not caving in and adding an AH.
Speaking or organization - which I'm all for since it can't hurt - I wish they'd add more stands. Say rows or columns labeled A (or whatever name they wanted) with 5 stands in (1-5, or whatever) that are clearly labeled on the stand. And when the player summons a retainer, the retainer is automatically placed on a free stand with a system message saying "Your retainer has taken up Stand A5 [or whatever name]."
The wards themselves all ready have a retainer number limit, so something as this would add a visual cue as to how full it is, and it'll help in advertising goods since you can asy "Check out retainer [x] at Stand A5 for [blargness!]" instead of just shouting a name and hoping people can wade through all the retainers standing on top of each other with overlapping names.
But on a more on topic matter, this sounds nice though it certainly won't keep people from just filling their retainers with random things in the different wards. However, it simply can't hurt and it should make it at least a little easier. Looking forward to seeing the outcome.
Above are the new names of the market wards. This remains true to SE's vision of the trade system and also a good compromise for crafters who want an AH.... they also said they're going to develop some sort of "search" feature.
While this should help quite a bit, I cannot imagine that people will regularly limit their selling to 1 type of item at a time. Can we even get multiple retainers at this point?
On the other hand I don't think the game needs an auction house. It could however stand too have some kind of city limited search feature, a bit like SWG had, so you could look for a particular item or class of item and then be given a list of every vendor that carries it or have every vendor with it marked some how. To make it more realistic you could "ask the question" of an npc in an information both, perhaps they give you a finding stone that leads you to the people you want. I don't know, don't care. But you do need a way to search if there is going to be that many vendors.
All die, so die well.
You can get more retainers, they only cost 1$ more per retainer per month.
I find it difficult to repair my underwear if I can't take it off.
And before anyone says anything, I know you can swap it out for other underwear, but I'm just saying.
All you need is duct tape and some appropriately colored paint.
Ward districts > Undercut House
Hey, in that case, why not just make it out of duct tape? XD
Definitely switch it out. Either that, or I'd expect some seriously top gil offers to repair others' used and dirty underwear by hand >< ><
Besides, you really wanna be known as that guy who runs around in dirty underwear with crudely sewn patches on it?
Damn street rats, I tell you.
Not yet you can't.
I didn't see that as an option a week ago. Did they just add it or is it planned for the future?
All die, so die well.
Easier solution: Commando.
It's good to see they will be making the markets easier to use. I personally like the player shops over auction houses, as it reminds me of the old E.Commons tunnel setup in EQ back in the day.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Meh, who needs underwear. I like a breeze under there, so all I need is a robe XD
It isn't implemented yet, but it was listed in the pricing of the game during the summer that a new character would cost 3$ and another retainer would cost 1$. Makes sense for them to split the wards this way to make you buy more retainer.
Have to admit I didnt see that when I first looked at monthly fee's. The retainer that is. Sad to at this rate SE is going to be charging more a month to play there game than any other (and possibly more than f2win games do) and that makes me sad.
I hate saying this because it is good news they are updating their market system.
But doesn't this make it a lot easier for people to manipulate the market by having a ton of retainers? In other words, the more you pay, the bigger advantage you have.
Noone is stopping you from paying more yourself and being up there with them.
I know. I don't like that idea.
Isn't that the same as buying multiple accounts and having multiple alts to post stuff up on the AH throughout them?
What can i say. The more money you spend the more you get. That's just how it works.
I don't understand why anyone in the right mind would not want an AH. The stall system is garbage, as someone put it, its like playings where's waldo with an item. I, and anyone else with half a brain would prefer an AH. only ones who don't want an ah tend to be greedy asshats who wanna gouge people on prices.
"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."

No, it's completely different.
In this game you get a tax advantage for putting different items in different areas. In other games, everyone gets the same rate so using alts is meaningless.
Funny. Just one example: When I was playing Aion, there was a point where a lot of the Aether Powder was bought out. Someone posted up a few and decided it would be smart to list them 3000 kinah per. For L1 Aether Powder, that's a complete ripoff.
I posted mine at a 1000 kinah per. Still high for what it is, especially considering you can really only use that to make starter items, but nowhere near as much gouging as them.
The amount of tells and cussing I received in whispers for that was amazing. I think I blocked 5 new people that day. Anyways, that's just 1 example, and I'm sure everyone's cussed or seen some comment on "damn [player x] always undercutting!" I'd say AH and the stigmas attached to undercutting by more than just a few %, not to mention the peer pressure and possible wave of insults comming your way, does more to promote keeping certain prices at eye gouging levels.
Just my thoughts though.
