And unfortunate i hate to admit it. But catecylsm is awesome, Quest are fun. new zones and stuff are awesome, some class changes are awesome (but some class stuff needs to be tweaked and balance still imo). other then that, pretty cool and fun stuff.

Not to mention all the $40 dollars does is unlock 2 new races, new class combos and level 81-85. So IF thats worth 40 bucks to some one than so be it, but azeroth will change wether you buy cataclysm or not.

New players don't need to buy wotlk or cata before level 70. It will take them at least a month, maybe 2-3 to get to 70 where they would eventually need those two :P

+ you can buy wrath + classic + tbc + cata for 50 pounds on amazon now. Compare that to Starcraft which was 45 pounds in their store. (35 on amazon though)

I think the number of people that have finally LEFT WoW that will be returning for Cataclysm.....is going to be far less than what present players are expecting. I'm sure they will sell 10 milion copies of the expansion, but...that covers the players that are playing NOW, not the ones that have already left. So I guess we won't really know how well they did (exactly) at luring old players back and retaining their subs, until the financial reports for the end of 2011 come out.

I'm within the number that won't be returning. But I do hope that everyone will have a wonderful time.  I enjoyed WoW until....I didn't enjoy WoW any more. I wish the same for everyone else.  Enjoy it fully....until you don't enjoy it any more!  We should all do that with whatever it is that we choose to play.

I will wager that cata out sells gw2 and swtor combined... so much for the WoW killers, lol

"It's not just an expansion, but a re-creation of much of the original Azeroth[...]"

I have a feeling Cataclysm is going to be the total 'dumbing down' of WoW. Pre-TBC you, well at least I did, felt like leveling meant something. The feeling [ I ] got when questing in E/WPL...never got that feeling in the TBC/Wrath equivalent zones (ie the "Near Max Level"-zones).

I'll truly miss the game. Sure I'll be giving Cataclysm a try but I have a feeling much of what grabbed my attention when I first started will be gone....

I feel a content upgrade coming on, i think another game changed their entire makeup content wise. Will be a real good time to see how the people of World of Warcraft react to it. I'm just worried it will pull a SWG and mess it up.  But who knows maybe blizzard has the smarts that Sony did not. More power to you. but i don't think it will do as well as some people think. Sure you got a changed content but your going against those that are completely new and are going about things different.

I hope every game does well. I'm just interested in this new content upgrade to see how themepark content upgrade compared to the sandbox version.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

When the 800 pound goralia speaks everyone listens. What ever Blizzard is up to as far as expansion or where World of Warcraft is heading im sure all are watching and in my opion they have did a pretty good job of keeping things interestiing.

There are some things that are worth getting the CE version, and WoW expansions are one of them. I have the previous two expansion CE's, and this black/orange box will fit nicely!

Glad I witnessed WoW in its full glory, back in the day of course. But now, I finally retire from it. I was excited when TBC was released. Not so excited when WoTLK released and now I just don't care playing it anymore.

Might get a ban for this but it needs to be said once and for all:

The only people freaking over with terms like "WoW killer" are actually wowfanboys who claim every new game needs to compete with this crap and therefore has to kill it, otherwise it is - in their narrow mindset - a failure and not worth playing right? There will never be such thing like a Wowkiller Activisionblizzard is doing a marvelous job killing a former nice game all by themselves so please stop this BS.

Just so you know: some of the guys working at Arenanet right now are the ones who helped developing Vanilla WoW...

Guess what games are used to be made from gamers for gamers not to kill each other or showing off every month how much subscribers they have (if MMORPGs..).

    =====================================================================

I'm glad that its finally dated, so not too far in the future I can turn on the general chat channel again *nice* but I do think this will not turn out well, more leading to something like "World of Warcraft New Game Enviroment (NGE)".  Doing a complete overhaul of the whole game always leads to unexpected problems. In the IT we're calling it "if its not broken don't fix it".

Blizzard is more like "break it if it doesn't need to be fixed" which resulted in their loss of - 6 % marketshare (for those who care). I'm sure it will sell but after some time most people will realize its still the same old, same old. Most interesting features had been removed due to release hurry (thanks to Kotick aye?), so what people will get at the off the day will be 5 new levels (which are about 20 hs of gametime according to some betatester) and overhauled classic world, which had been outstanding and didn't need to become destroyed.

For me its been like this:

SoE killing Everquest 1 more and more, moving to the crap named Everquest 2 (didn't hold my attention) moving on to classic WoW I liked the open world reminded me on the great Eq 1 days.  BC been the first downside but still a great addon. Sure I moved on to Vanguard because it was the game Ive been waiting for since the glory EQ1 days but after Soe took over there was just one way - back to Wow since it has easily been the best game outthere...Wotlk destroyed everything for me and didn't look back since then soo..

I'm happy for those (mature!) people that still enjoy it and hoping the best for them. Personally I think you'll have to deal with lots of nerfing, patching, "rebalancing" soon which is not a lot of fun at least for me.

Though I do thank the old Blizzard (not the Activisioned one!!) for some great memories and nice new RL friends I've met from classic till the beginning of Wotlk.

to make a long story short:

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play."
"Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."

Why should I go back to the same zones rehashed with a make over to experience the same shitty community.  WOW itself is a great game I just don't like the community as a whole.  Thanks but no thanks

This for me also.Lost interest middle-wrath.Old mechanics (except for 1-2) with new wrapping, same classes and most of all same community! No matter what they gonna do to wow , its died for me long long time ago...so now we go in a galaxy far far away!

    Cataclysm dated?

WoW has been dated for a long time. Time for everyone to move on I think.

  • MarknMarkn Member UncommonPosts: 308

to be fair with the EQ expansions you get every previous expansion plus the new one for 40$.  In WOW you gotta buy each one seperate which ends up costing ALOT if you quit a few expansions ago.

  • YasouYasou Member Posts: 86

I do hope it gets released in EU before Xmas but usually we follow close after the US releases.

I am absolutely willing to pay 40$ as I know it will be quality content (Blizz has always been top-notch in that department); and especially knowing that we paid 50-60$ for unfinished, poor-quality, buggy MMOs in the past, not to mention the ones that shut down close after release or that had only half of the content they promised.

Well, finally they have given a release date. Well, i expected teh expansion to have actually been released by now, since the previous 2 expansions were released 3-4 weeks after they started the event for it. This time that event was released 3 months too early (and then add 3 weeks ontop of that which should take you to release time).

I have also heard that they are intending to release a whopping 5.15gb patch (maybe bigger) in the next 2 weeks sometime, which will change the character tree's and other stuff so players (and hopefully modders fo add-ons) can get some sort of working thing going. Though add-ons usually need fixing months afterwards and bug fix's are implemented alot (sigh).

Still not sure whether to get this though, only thing keeping me is a handful of people (but things are also dwindling too in this area), also there is just jack shit out there to even replace this at the moment as an online game :( after 6yrs i would have expected something decent to have come along by now, but so far everything been trying to clone this game and failed bigtime.

    Game.co.uk = £24.99 (dec 7th release) free delivery

    Amazon.co.uk = £17.91 (dec 7th release) free delivery

So if i was to get it, you know where i will be pre ordering it from.

    You exaggerate. ^^

First, it doesn't just add a few dungeons5 levels and a few lower quests. It also adds six new zones + all the old revamped zones + two new races + new starting zones. The "few dungeons" are 7 dungeons and 3 raid dungeons plus two heroic versions of two old dungeons. It also adds a pvp dungeon, two new battlegrounds, guild advancement system, graphics updates and a new profession.

All that stuff combined is well enough content to be called an expansion. And the lack of such expansions are why I stopped playing WAR for example.

The grind? All MMORPGs are about grinding, the only difference is how well they hide it and how interesting they design it. If you call adding new zones, dungeons, items and thousands of quest "restarting the grind", then I love them restarting the grind. MMORPGs are about changes for me, not something static. It seems to me that you dislike those changings (ie restarting the grind). Maybe you are one of those people who love to prance around in capitals on their oh-so-rare mounts, hoping to have admirers following and whispering them. People who are now worried they can't show off with their equipment anymore in Cataclysm, because they have to get new equip.

In the end, it all just depends on the point of view. Fallen Earth and WoW are the only MMORPGs about which I can say that I enjoy them. Sure, they got their flaws, but not as many gamebreaking ones as the other MMORPGs I tried. The expansion adds tons of new stuff to explore, which will be fun for me, so I will buy it.

And what other MMORPG (except FE and WoW) do you want to play right now? Yeah yeah, I know the WoW killer is coming any moment, and dozens of awesome MMORPGs are about to be released that will be much better (such as the last few dozen MMORPGs released that were all supposed to be better than WoW). ^^

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

  • intheoryintheory Member UncommonPosts: 32

I can't believe people are COMPLAINING about a $40 expansion. That's actually a lower price than the previous 2 expansions. There's just no please you people, is there?

Its a brave move on Blizzard's part to redesign one of the most profitable games of all time.  I wouldnt say it goes NGE far, but the new class mechanics and skill trees coming out in the next patch really change it signifgantly.  Add to that the old zone redisigns, new dungeon scaling options, new class/race combos, graphics updates, etc:  it's going to be a pretty new game.  I'm not saying it going to be perfect, especially till the classes get semi balanced again.  But it is going to be alot of fun leveling my Tauren pally in full relic gear with new quests and flying mounts in old Azeroth.

There is a key difference here though. WoW has been successful for many years. This is not like the NGE, in that it was announced well in advance, it does not plan to change the core concepts of the game (just large swaths of mechanics), and it is more to renovate something to maintain the appeal for the people that already like it.

The NGE was a secret, was done much earlier than Cataclysm, changed the entire way anything worked, and was done to bring in new people regardless of how the current playerbase felt. Cataclysm is being heavily vetted by people that already like the game, as one usually does for large expansions.

I kind of do not like Blizzard anymore, but the NGE was revolting. It ruined a game, and was thrust onto players before anyone knew what happened. This is just an expansion with a facelift. No comparison.

"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true — you know it, and they know it." —Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007

    WTF? No subscription fee?

I was tempted by rated bgs for a while. But i am passing on cata. The gear grind at the end of wrath totally burned me out on wow.
