The Final Fantasy franchise died after X. FFXI was such a joke for consoles that unless you have an old school PS2, you could not even play that game. The whole Final Fantasy series has gone in a very linear cut scene driven path that it (and Kingdom Hearts) can takew you over an hour or two before you are swinging your weapon for the first time.
While some like this style of play, it is beyond a rail system. it is like watching a 10 hour movie where occassionally you have to stop and hit a bunch of buttons before the movie continues.
It is a shame because graphically, Final Fantasy has always produced beautiful games that are far more developed graphically than any other game. But gameplay has been a failure for years and FFXIV is just another failure among failures for Square Enix.
I remember FF7 as a breakthrough and now FFXIV is an utter failure.
It is time to slaughter all the chocobos and leave this franchise to to die a slow death.
So, for all the "the game is not for you people" out there. Who is a game with a sloooooow interface made for? I think that was the nail in the coffin for me; I can handle long leveling times, long crafting times, etc. etc. but long times between keypresses/clicks is a no go.
Been playing for just over a week now and have not experienced ANY interface lag using an Xbox controller. I don't see the issue. Maybe you aren't waiting for your stamina bar to refill like you should in order to do an attack? That could be why you think there is a delay when in reality its the stamina bar holding back your attack. I'm even on DSL so I inherently have a high ping and I still see VERY LITTLE lag.
Another possibility is that it could simply be server lag. I play on Figaro which seems to have been pretty lag free, at least for me. I live on East Coast USA and I have roughly 50-100 ping most of the time, sometimes around 200 (on DSL).
People can keep using this excuse if they want, but the fact is that it isn't as big of an issue as it was in beta. Also do you have Hardware Mouse enabled? If you are playing with a keyboard and mouse and having this issue that could be why.

First let me say I do enjoy this game; secondly the lag is terrible!

I want to call this impression thread objective, but it's not.
There's more to linearity than something that could be circumvented by the ability to jump. You've got three starting areas and reason to visit them all, that's not very linear. You can develop your chracter in severa ldirections, that's not very linear. I'm guessing you started in Gridania, because The Black Shroud is the only map which is mostly a series of paths.
It's true producing a single item via crafting takes awhile, but each item has considerably more longevity. You don't just level up out of items in this game, but can use them across several different jobs, and then sell them afterwards to the player economy.
You can speed class changing via use of macros. See the thread on the top of hte page for more info on that.
So the combat is slow-paced. There's nothing wrong with that.
But, you know, not all games are for everyone, so if this is how you feel then I'm not going to try to force you to feel otherwise.
1. It is linear and tiny, with artificial borders at every step.
2. The combat is even slower paced because of all the lag in the game.
3. YOU are pretty much the least objective person here. You go into every thread and put on a defense. You use every excuse in the book, including saying that someone ELSE's opinions aren't "objective." What is that supposed to mean? It is the same as calling someone a troll or simply outright insulting someone. It is called ad hominem and it is used as a way to discredit someone's opinion by attacking the person. You are simply doing the more subtle and passive aggressive internet version of it.
It isn't worth arguing. There are people in this world who argue for the sake of arguing. He obviously knows his game is a sinking ship (unless SE picks up the slack big time). You would be surprised at what people believe, and what is actually fact.
No, I have to admit complete ignorance in knowing this obvious thing I should be knowing. Partly because I'm pretty sure SE will be picking up the slack. Jebus, the game hasn't even been out for 2 weeks (including the collector's head start).
I've been reading more forums regarding this game. It's amazing how jaded the community feels about this game. Seriously. Even the fansites are calling for 'class action lawsuits'. Not that I'm calling for one, but it's amazing how upset this release has upset the community. Not even STO got this much bad press.
