The game is a lie

Not seeing it, I like the game a lot, the lore the world, the classes, the immense world with quests and lush land scapes what I don't like is the shady way they do the f2p and the store, I was  a subscriber, I subscribed 3 days before it was flipped but I wasnt sold on the game 100% so a week later when I was, I looked on the website for the deal for the 2 xpacks for 30 $ and it was gone, the only thing you could do was buy the mines of moria for 30$ in TP, wouldnt have been so bad if they gave me my intial 500 tp for subscribing, I didn't get it until the next pay cycle which was 4 days ago. Turbine for all intents and purposes, do not practice truth or full disclousure in advertising and seeing the article from this website saying the playing population is up is right but people are leaving as fast as they are coming after they realize f2p is only extended trial. Good try turbine you almost had me.

What did Turbine do with the second expansion anyway? I know it was In the shop last week. Did they cut it up so we could buy it piece by piece? If so ehhh... It's all standard f2p stuff any how. You cant expect a game like lotro to be totally free like most of those Asian grinder f2p on the market.

You can still find the Mines of Moria expansion box being sold off cheaply in lots of stores if you bother to look. The other one was only ever available as a digital download but theres not much point whining that you missed buying it while it was on special offer. These deals don't last forever.

They put the second expansion back on the shop.

Honestly the entire cash shop is extremely cheap.

People only bitch because the think a free to play game means exactly that.

I'm sorry, but you knew the game was going to change payment models. If you didn't decide to pick up both XPs for $30 then you only have yourself to blame. Even so, it's still cheaper than the retail prices of both packs (Moria was $40, that's how much I paid for it, then another $20 for Mirkwood. Now both are only $45 or so...)

Same thing regarding subscribing 3 days before it went F2P. Why couldn't you just wait 3 days?

awww..... Let me give you a hug, big bear!

I'm sorry LOTRO did not appeal to  the person who was the official spokesperson  of the wave of new players. Too bad many did not heed your harrowing plea.

I wonder what the op will think if i tell him that there was as special offer a couple months ago where you got the basegame, both expansions and 30 days sub for 10$. I bought that, and im a EU player thats how good the offer was. So yeah, if you see a good sale(the one you refer too wasn't particularly good) you should grab it.

Also there is a sale right now where you get 6900 points for 50$, which is 138 TP per dollar, which means the 4500 TP the expansions total would cost you ~33 dollars. Lets create a whine over 3 fricking dollars. Im pretty sure you already got those with your deeds unless you really really hate completing your deeds.

Also both the expansions have always been in the store, and no they have not been picked apart. You can buy individual parts separately(if you like burning money), but you don't have too.

Lastly, buy the MoM box in a store. Its not rocket science. It costs about 10$, and includes 15$ dollar of VIP sub.

  • Rockgod99Rockgod99 Member Posts: 4,640
Yeah I was mistaken. The second expansion was I'n the shop but when I looked while actually being In game only the Moria was listed. I checked last night while I was on the character select screen and it was available. I bought 98 dollars worth of tokens and cleared out the shop. I prefer not paying a sub so it works for me.

I wasn't entirely sold on the game exactly, and I am on disablity for another couple of weeks so I couldnt afford the whole game from the website until a week after the game flipped, so when I went to the "download" section and noticed the xpacks where gone. I didn't expect turbine to do what they did, I have checked everywhere for the game, I checked for 2 weeks, every game stop on the west coast, walmart, target, best buy fry's and the only people that had it where ebay and amazon but it was either over priced or took to long to get it. Now that I am going back to work soon and swtor is out in a few months I can't justify spending 60$ on xpacks that cost just 30 $ days before. Doesn't make any sense. Not to mention mines of moria was listed for 10$ for the collectors edition on the game stop website, they just didn't have any, anywhere in the western 11 states. Now its totally of the website. So I tried I would still be playing of they didn't lie. I am not sure why everyone has a sheep, socialist mentality when it comes to the way these companies run their mmos.

Wow it smells like troll in here. Gold text: It's Turbine's fault you couldn't pay for the expansions prior to the known pricing model change. K.

Green text: In the first sentence you said you had to wait a "couple of weeks" just to have the initial money for the expansions, now the 5 business day express delivery from Amazon is too long to wait? Huh?

Red text: reading the SWTOR website says: "When does testing begin? A date for the commencement of testing has not been finalized. Once we feel that we are ready for testers, we will contact the selected applicants via email with further instructions." So "a few months" is an understatement.

So basically, what I read is you are calling Turbine liars because you couldn't afford to buy parts of the game when it was cheaper, and are unwilling to buy cheaper expansions now because you cannot be bothered to play a F2P account while you await delivery of the games to add the codes to your F2P account. You have entitlement issues.

That reminds me, Turbine stopped the lifetime deal several months back and after I heard about F2P, I wanted to buy it, and it was GONE!

Evil, mean Turbine poopyheads!  No doubt they're twirling their pencil thin mustaches and cackling evilly at my pain this very moment!!!

He meant "capitalist".  Socialist would mean that everyone got the full game, regardless of what they were able to pay.  Maybe he meant he would like it to be socialist, that way he'd be able to play despite his financial situation as it would be financed by those that are able to pay more for the game.

Or maybe he just doesn't know the difference.

LOTRO did cost a lot do make but Turbine have got most if not all back after 4 years of monthly subs and box sales. Take that away and it cost less than games like Runes of magic.

To me it seems like Western companies either havn't got the concept right or are too greedy. EQ2X and LOTROs shops are selling too much stuff that should be free and that will turn off many players so I think they will lose by doing this in the long run.

Well lotro is a very good mmo. In my opinion much higher quality that the two most popular f2p mmos runes of magic and perfect world.
I do agree that the shop is starting too feel a bit much as an example I paid quite a bit for all Lotros content & expansions. I even lifted restrictions and bought stuff like mounts. Now that I have what I want im still constantly reminded that I need the shop. I still need to purchase virtue slots, swift travel and crafting recipes. It bothers me a bit because I just invested more than a regular subbed player would spend I'n a half a year.

    This, probably.

I fail to see, in any case, any relevance of political or economic ideologies in a thread about a MMO.

And this inexactitude in fact completely discredits his argument . Not that I thought too much of it in the first place...

How do i say it without coming over as belittling ... Hmm thats hard. Lets try just running down some cold hard facts without any emotion in it:

    1. Crafting recipes can be bought from AH, are rewards for certain quests and drop from mobs.

    2. Riding skill and mounts are available per quests ingame. Thats how we got the the last 3 years, works fine.

    3. Purchasing a MoM copy from amazon for 10$ would have given you 30 days of VIP and lifted all virtue slots and gold limits on all your chars permanently.

    4. Only about 53% of players have used the store at all in the first month according to a press release of Turbine. That means 47% of players feel no need to buy stuff from the store, hell we played the game for 3 years without a store and there is nothing that was previously an ingame item and is now store only.

    5. You spend more than a subscriber in half a year, and will have everything aslong as the game runs, the subscriber will have basic premium access if he lets his sub lapse after 6 months.

Really the only things you should buy in the store are the questpacks and SoM, all the rest is either much cheaper elsewhere(MoM on amazon or some retailer) or is superficial stuff noone really needs.

Red text:: You don't have to buy mounts, virtue slots, swift travel maps, or crafting recipes from the Turbine Store.  Before the game had the Turbine Store these items eiter just cost a lot of gold or you had to invest a lot of time to get them (virtue slots).  These were not even an option for purchase before the payment model change.

So what you wrote in green doesn't really make any sense, as these items are not given to subscribers.  We still have to grind for them or buy them from the store, just like you.

Maybe people are just dense on the other hand? The second expansion always was on the store, people just don't understand that you you can't see stuff on the store that you can't use, and you can only use(and thus see) the second expansion after you got the first.

Also this has been done to death, can you play? Yes you can. Are you charged for it? No your not. So you have to do some work to unlock a zone, whoopdedoo, guess what, you still do not have to pay. If your dad tells you you get a free car when you get your license, do you complain its not a F40?

I was only speaking of monthly sub payment vs what i paid to unlock everything off the shop.

An 8 month sub of lotro costs 119.92.

To buy Two expansions, Two bag slots, remove gold restrictions, All quest packs, all skirmish packs, shared storage = 119.97

Which is a great deal as long as you plan on playing for a year (which I do).

I honestly just hate seeing that stupid coin logo pop up when i look at virtue unlocks and swift travel.

with that said i've easily been able to purchase recipes and virtue slot (the initial unlock) with the coin i made playing.

Its more of a personal annoyance other than that i have no issue with the model & I'm really enjoying the game.
