We are already there. Soon all games will have them.

I rather not if I can choose but games that are F2P and B2P got to get their money from somewhere so I understand the need for it in those games. In P2P games it pisses me off but I live with them because my options are shrinking every month.

I'm with you, Sub based games should include everything, there is no excuse but greed. F2P nearly all have inherent gameplay frustrations forcing cash shop items because they need you to spend. If a B2P model proves successful enough with box/content sales there is no need to incorporate pay to win items in it's shop, Guild Wars already proved that it's possible, look at what they are building with the funds. GW is still getting content and GW2 looks pretty good so far :)

    That was the joke.

I know, I got it.  Hence the image of the extremely expensive but utterly worthless example of "modern art". ;)

Well to be fair art is never completely worthless.

Though your example is a bit hard to swallow. I just hope my tax dollars didn't pay for that.

gw2 will kill wow because its the best

After leaving WoW for 18 months, I decided to try it again.  The second day I cancelled my subscription, and wished I could have gotten a refund on my $15   It's a old game and plays like one.  The graphics, the lag, the "world server crashes", the super slow downloads, the bugs,  are all still in place.  It had alot of potential which was never acted upon.   The looks of the armor continues to decline rapidly.   Their idea of class balancing is a matter of rolling some dice and deciding that one class will do 20k damage and the next will crit for 200.   I would save my money if considering playing it until GW2.

Not true, covering stuff in foil, painting with poo and similar things are useless. Some people can pass of whatever they want and call it art. A while ago some guy here (Sweden) let his pet chimp paint some paintings and said he made them himself. Since he was famous before they got great reviews until he confessed. Now he is totally frozen out because of it.

What is art can be discussed but it is clear that there are some con artists who sells garbage for a lot of money.

But I kinda miss the point here, that has nothing to do with GW2 vs Wow. And comparing a 6 year old game with something that isn't released yet seems kinda pointless to me.

GW2 isn't exactly aiming for Wows playerbase anyways, it is rift and TOR that do that. ANET have their own fanbase and I am sure the game will sell well but it is not really aiming to be the next Wow, it does it's own thing and while the game have similarities (which is logical since many of the ANET team were the people who actually started to work on Wow a long time ago) they are not that close.

The likeness between GW2 and Wow is mainly the fact that both are well coded and that the engines were made by Jeff Strain (but Wows engine have been changed a lot since Strain worked on it).

If you've never played an MMO before, WoW is an easy starting point with an easy learning curve.  If you have played a lot of games (in general, not MMO's) you may find in mind-numbingly boring.

There is no reason not to play both WoW and GW2 (or GW1).  You never have to pay a subscription fee, you only need to buy the game.  Just think of it like any other game you buy and play for free.

To recap, if you are not a gamer or have never played an MMO, WoW is as good a place as any to start.  If you play a lot of games or have played other MMO's it will probably bore you to death though.  Hope that helps.

I can't believe there are so many suckers still paying $15 for that fail ass garbage game (WoW) I guess because you can run it on a toaster oven and you only need an IQ slightly above a snail to play it makes it an obvious choice for many people.

I won't even bother with subscription based games any more they  just aren't worth it. I think the B2P is the best model it gets rid of the endless stream of hackers and bots you see in F2P games while not ripping you off on a monthly basis. Even if they add a cash shop to GW2 it will be fine as long as they don't get carried away and break the game with it. The only reason WoW is still so strong is because no one else seems to be able to make anything that isn't a total disaster. Hopefully GW2 will break that trend but it will succeed or fail on it's own no matter what happens with blizzards tired old carrot on a stick piece of shit WoW.

this makes all the difference between WoW and GW2

in wow you need to grind till L80 right now cause 99% from its world and content its useless, and in GW2 everything (i.e. L1 up L?) its enjoyable and the wow actual comunnity sucks hardballs. As a wow beginner you will be called infinite noob....

I have no doubt that I will be playing GW2 without any hesitation but until it is released I have my cousin breathing down my neck telling me to get on WoW.  Now I have played WoW before, admittedly not for massive stint but definitely enough to understand where it is coming from.

Problem I have is that after reading about GW2 I know that WoW didn't have the same structure when I played it (over a year ago at least) I've told my cousin some of what GW2 has and he sort of rolls over and says "oh WoW has that, plus server vs server action".

So to my question, has WoW made some steps in the right direction and should I give it a go until GW2 or can you lot explain what GW2 has over WoW so that I can break is hold over it so that he can join me on GW2 -when its released of course!

He's in his 20's as well so I need substance not kiddy wow factors if you know what I mean.

    Thanks

no one can say what wow has over GW2 or viceversa because the little information we know so far about GW2 is not the whole game, theres a lot still to be added , so we cant compare wow to GW2 (not yet) and i dont think even after release as they are gonna be so much different, GW has always been different to wow.  if u like wow a lot, then go throw some cash at it while you wait for GW2, once you play GW2 and your brother tries it, you guys will decide which one is better for you two to stick with

i plan to do the same thing... tho when GW2 comes out ill defo stick with that one

(ok, the last one might not be a that's why i buy it factor but can't deny it's awsome! =3) anyway, here are the reasons why i am going to buy GW2. Goodluck convincing your friend.

Is there a place to read up on all of this in one location?

GWs PvE is based on 3 things. Dungeons are rather similar to Wow. Personal storyline is closer to Biowares single player games like Newerwinter nights. Dynamic events is something completly new, the only thing that have some similarities is Warhammers public quests but Dynamic events actually changes the gameworld and are linked in chains. Dynamic event can be huge and scales from 1 to over 100 players.

But the biggest difference is items. Stats are not at all as important in GW 2 as in Wow. It is comparatively easy to get good stats on your gear, dungeon gear is more about fluff that stats while Wow is the opposite.

Also, AI and combat is very different since Wow uses the holy triad while GW 2 have no tanks or healer forcing you to keep a close eye on all that is happening around you.

And GW 2 have no loot stealing, if you help someone out both players will be rewarded.

A lot more of the important thing happens in the open world in GW 2, bosses that would be raid bosses in Wow show up due to dynamic events and you don't have to be grouped to join in.

But of course there are likenesses too, both games GFX engines are written by Jeff Strain to mention one thing (even if Wows is modded since then).

Loke666, you consistently provide tons of great incite and information!  I am personally excited to see ANET's GW2, especially if everything that they are proposing for the game makes it!

Is there a place to read up on all of this information?
