Are cracks appearing in the Blizzard-WoW juggernaut ?
Patch 4.0.1 is a massive patch and it appears to have been let on the live servers full of bugs. This is a major first. Are Vivendi/Activision pushing for release at expense of previous quality.
The in game changes are also quite severe. Talent trees reduced giving players less choice. I play/played a Resto Shaman and the look of that talent tree is somewhat underwhelming. I took a break until the Cata and im not really feeling motivated to go back.
Is this the begining of the end?
No its by far not a major first. Take Wotlk the first expansion under Activision and Ghostcrawler helm despite the easymode it didn't have the level of polish BC and Vanilla used to have. Just look at the tiny updates compared to the previous expansions and even then they somehow couldn't release enough content to keep raiders happy, hell Wotlk has been cleared after what 4 days?
Telling people to try the same boss over and over just with different mechanics is Activision at its best.
I'm sure Blizzard would love to release in January, Februrary but their new boss who doesn't have a say according to Morhaime AND Vivendi are pushing for the christmas release. Now Morhaime can shove his BS about "activision hasn't changed us" whereever he wants to.
Facts are Blizzards ignorance and hostile usermanagement began after the merger! Just look at how much cool features they've removed features, I would have been willing to test such as the path of titans, or CUSTOM guild talents.
Theres also a clear line in every expansion ->small (25), smaller (25, 10), smallest (10 - soon).
There is no more its done when its done more its done, when Kotick needs another Ferrari.
People claiming that removing arrows would be a good thing have no clue what they are talking about. Arrows used to be a way to specialize and maximize your rotation, back in BC they also were great faction rewards and not just a moneysink as some of you claimed.
Its nice that they are trying to bring back difficulty but in fact dumbed down mechanics such as streamlined talent trees, less stats and 10 men raids equal rewarding are not turning up the challenge, its dumbing down the game even further. Believe me, once people are getting used to the new rotations the difficulty won't last long, because either they outgear the content or constantly crying for nerfs and finally Blizzard will give in to the easymode crowd again.
The old "quality first and from gamers for gamers" Blizzard is long gone, I bet you everything you will see lots of dumbing down in their upcoming games esp. D3 (just read Bashioks idiotic comments).
Exactly. Also, are people really complaining about this? This patch has been covered in-depth for the past 2 months now! Everyone had ample time to brace for the changes. And in all honesty, I welcome the changes. Now you have to actually fear normal mobs too!
~Miles "Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!
know this is going to come as a complete shock to you, but some people actually wait until they experience content firsthand before forming reactions and commenting on them. Is it really a such a novel concept that people want to actually play changes to get a feeling for them before forming an opinion of them? I'm sure it's utterly mind-bending to think there are human beings out there that would rather form their own opinions than rely upon the subjective observances of others or the information the company wants released. What's really sad is that original thought and relying on personal experiences to form a valid response is mocked by the intellectually lazy who are naive enough to think the information spoon fed to them from the company is going to have any way to objectively be evaluated. Make sure you keep posting comments like this so people know exactly where your opinions come from. It'll help put things in perspective when people are looking for honest reactions from normal gamers versus hype-wagon company line regurgitated talking points.

It may come as a shock to you, but ... actually these articifially created threads with so much telling headers like "!?!?!?" and "NGE" ... shows that the vast majority of the so called complainers are not even playing the game.
Proof ? Just watch their history. I am not citing their names, everyone can research them in their latest history posts.
The ones who do play already have given a personal recount of the classes they play and the feeling they had and mostly it was moderated and quite good really.
Everyone needs to relearn the classes he played: logical.
It's the guys using one sentence catchy phrases and the "easy mode" guys that form the usual anit Blizz words.
Expect to see these kind of posts by the dozens appear as Azeroth 2 takes form.
These guys forget one thing: it doesn't even matter how much foolishness they post.
How can you dumb down a MMO well known for being dumbed down? WoW had its back up against the dumb down wall already, it can't go any further than it already is!

Really? Show me your character with lich king 25 man heroic kill? Even if you managed to link it its probably not your character.
People are so fast to say how easy it is but when it comes to it they don't have the back up. This takes time effort team work and skill all of which are not easy to accomplish. There is a harder level in the game but idiots choose to ignore it and claim its just EASY.
You all continue with your underdeveloped, underplayed, neglected games. EVE Excluded ccp do some fine work I just cant get into it.

Ammo - you think ammo is what made a hunter a hunter?
You can't have any meaningful debate about things in game when half the people debating are not even playing the game. They just go off of what they read and hear.
About closed end raiding. If you don't have a cap, why would you want to trivilize content by zerging with 100+ people? Where is the challenge in that? I'm not saying WoW instances are the most challenging thing ever, but bringing 40 people to something that was tuned for 10 makes absolutely no sense. It wasn't that much different in EQ, for example some mobs went down easy it was just a question of bringing enough wizards to burn it down. I don't get how that's fun and challenging
The patch is fine. You can't keep a game stagnant as far as how it plays. Most MMO's over time have been tweaked. This actually breathes new life into WoW, wasn't that everyones complaint during WoLTK?
Ammo - you think ammo is what made a hunter a hunter?
I have played a hunter in WoW since open beta and ammo has been the least of my concerns when playing the class. It is a pain when you forget to restock and run out but othewise I almost never paid attention to it. If rarer, more powerful ammo was available I would use it for tough bosses but usually I would just stick to the highest level vendor ammo that was available. There was no customization or specialization involved at all.

I was excited for the patch quite a bit as it seemed to look good on paper. But after logging in I can't say I'm that thrilled.
There's obviously a lot of glitches here and there. Glyphs for instance since they were totally overhauled, I have "some" glyphs that I had before in my now learned glyphs "spellbook", but some got changed to something else and I noticed they did give me some of those new low lv glyphs. I had a random Blood Strike rune in my bank, went to go learn it and it was a Blood Boil glyph instead. Lots of my gems got changed to agility instead of other various dps stats, which I did know about.
My dps seemed to have gone down quite a bit as an 80 dk with 4700 (old) GS that was previously blood spec'd 2h dps, dual spec'd unholy also.
The new water looks "cool", but only if you're in it. Granted I didn't go to any beaches yet but rivers in WotLK weren't very impressive. It looked more like a jello mold than water, until I got in it then it started moving. The underwater effects seemed to be almost the same as before though, if not the same.
I dunno, it seemed to be so good but after logging in and messing around a bit I just logged out and didn't want to bother, at least not right now. Debating on whether to even get Cataclysm now, which I was definitely getting before these changes.
My friend that has an older comp, used to be good back in the day, and can at least play stuff like the Witcher on high settings can't play WoW on anything but low settings now as it's saying his card isn't supported now. Which sucks for him, and me because now I don't have someone to play with because he refuses to play on low, which I don't blame him for.
Normally, with almost any MMO the above would not be much of a gripe, I mean...upgrade your comp and all that. WoW however is marketed on the fact that it can play on a HUGE array of computers. With this patch, and further with the Cataclysm revamping old world...well, all those people playing WoW on old systems are going to almost have to upgrade now, which I don't think bodes very well.
As far as the changes in grouping/tanking and the like with bringing back CC and such, it's just a throwback to how WoW started out when it was copying how EQ1 did things during that time. Something I'm quite familiar with and obviously some newer players may not be at all. It is strange to suddenly change it back to that way after moving away from it, but whatever, nothing I'm not used to doing before in the early days of MUDs/MMOs. I don't know, I kinda just liked the easy mode fun heroics lol, I'm getting old and lazy now I guess though. I kinda like playing MMOs when they're in that phase, like EQ1 during PoP expansion and mass KEI/Aego buffs and leveling lowbies that way, that was awesome.
I still think Cataclysm will sell quite well, I mean it's Blizzard so obviously it'll sell like crazy. But I think WoW is like the sun at it's zenith now, it's reached it's height and now it's setting, still way up there, but it's definitely on the downward trajectory (not some huge downward spiral or anything mind you.)
And I have no hate for WoW, I respect it for what it is, just don't think I'm going to really bother now. Which is unfortunate because there's really no other MMOs that are worth playing for me atm. The only other MMO I have any respect for these days is EVE, but it's not my cup of tea. However CCP gets a ton of respect from me and I'm looking forward to the WoD MMO after the tech demo and teaser trailer, especially with the announcement that it's Old WoD, WOOT! (off topic but I have to plug this possible epic game in the works!)
---------------------------- "Hero of Time! Face me!"
"Damage is for lvl85", WTF ? Then why dont give the damage to lvl85s with new ranks of spells (surprise surprise thats how the whole game in general work, but at 80 now not anymore to 85 ?) ? Why the fuck they give lvl85 dmg. now to lvl 80s with low HP pools, that doesnt make any sense. Sometimes I really have to wonder about Blizzard and their stupid decisions.
Dont get me wrong, you can add new spells, new talents and so on BUT GODDAMN ADD RANKS TO THEM, is that so hard ?.
And some players enjoyed the challenge of keeping stocked up on food, drink, ammo and whatnots.. Then there are those carebears that cant' be bothered with anything outside of just click and shoot.. Oh well..
Ah...you're speaking of virtual worlds, and WOW moved away from the model years ago. (along with most everyone esle)
Who remembers playing like Ultima 6 and having to feed your characters regularly else they'd starve and their stats would go down. Most people don't find eating, taking a leak etc fun so those elements are stricken from the game.
But ammo managment is sort of fun , been doing it lately in Fallen Earth and it does add an element to the game.

No everyones complaint about WOTLK was the game was dumbed down so bored 11 year olds could press the 2 button many times with their Paladin and do it blindfolded and still win, DKs totally imbalanced the game and made Enhancement shaman nearly useless, classes with healing specs had their other specs ruined .. In general classes were nerfed and buffed based on current RAID usefulness and the BURST was way out of hand especially in Melee. PVP was trampled on and made to serve as second class citizens to the raid community, world pvp had died a tragic death in Wrath. Hacking was totally out of control, fun world events were cancelled because carebears cried, like the Zombie invasion, you know.. its not like players wanted EVENTS to keep them interested or anything.... Theres alot of Things I DIDNT like about WOTLK and CATACLYSM took ALL of those things and made them worse.
Now the game is EVEN MORE simple, the mechanics for character design are all but gone, PVPers are even more overshadowed, you might as well select which type of rogue you want to be in the beginning like SUB in the check box and call it good, because actually selecting talents now is an absolute joke. I know many of you dont like choices, you like not thinking about the game or what your doing, but for many of us it was all there was left. There is more to a game than Progression Raid efficiency, I sometimes think some of you would be happy with boxes holding swords that all looked exactly the same as long as you could gear grind instances with it.

LOL they didnt fix anything they had some meaningless patches that ended up with everything still being just as bad or nearly as bad as it was in the Beginning. Get real fanboi.
So you hated WOTLK and yet are still playing to be able to comment on this latest patch?
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
The game seem's to have been dumbed down, simplied, can Blizzard pull off what SOE could not with SWG it's not quite as drastic as what SOE done but damn it seems to have changed to core of the game. Wonder if it will have the same effect on it's player base as the NGE did on SWG.
Blizzards game design policy from the start with WoW has been one of dumbing down the challenges and removing the sense of risk/reward. Like a snowball rolling down hill, this game design style gained momentum as time went on. Basically my point is that this is "not" a new concept on the part of Blizzard. It really is to bad because they have had some really interesting ideas over the years in regards to this game.
Basically the game challenge is on par with pulling a lever and getting a treat everytime. Boring.
Ammo - you think ammo is what made a hunter a hunter?
I have played a hunter in WoW since open beta and ammo has been the least of my concerns when playing the class. Exactly...never has been. This other guy that posted though made it sound like ammo made the difference and enhanced his hunter. ::shakes her head::
So you are honestly going to tell me BT ammo (back in BC) didn't make a difference in your DPS? I used to have 3 different sorts of ammo: bt, highest vendor and dot arrows -> perfect for kitting.
Aso for the guy mentioning again "stupid hardmodes" ....hardmodes aren't content, they are boredom, not rewarding and by far the most stupid game mechanic one can think off. The numbers of hardmode "beaters" are so low, because even top guilds having a hard time motivating themselves for this sort of "content". Back in BC every member had the same goal just different motivations (gear, progress, serverfirsts) but they all had to do the same thing in order to advance. Wotlk changed that and it showed I've never seen so much topguilds disbanding or running out of members.. Even Blizzard admitted Wotlk WAS indeed too easy, now they are trying to fix it but how long will this last + they're also dumbing it down even further. Having to spent 31 talents in one tree will basically lead to 3 specs for every class, with little to non existant customization.
You guys will soon find out that Ghostcrawler will still nerf, nerf, nerf and patch, patch, patch everything till his prefered class will be overpowered in the Arena once again. I really can't understand why Blizzard doesn't just change some talents for PvP only, so no need to nerf, unnerf everytime.
Blizzard did confirm, hardmodes and raid gatting will be back so two of the most failed game mechanics ever are going to be back thought, they want to increase the challenge? Also all overland raidbosses are gone so that means, raiding only in instances no more overland bosses ->stupid isn't it?
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
I would put it on par with the CU, though. Or, the CU(RB), as some players called it.
I didn't call it quits immediately after either of the changes to SWG.
I ended up liking the CU(RB) enough to continue playing.
I ended up cancelling my 5 subscriptions to the game after the NGE rolled out though.
4.0.1 was simply a major disappointment.
It was on par with the level of disappointment that the patch prior to WotLK was, tbh. No class should EVER receive a buff that puts it on 'faceroll' status. Sure, it's good to have buffs to your class and feel that 'rush of power'... but not to the extent that we've seen ranged classes with 4.0.1 or that we saw Pally's pre-WotLK.
This is where the immature crowd says 'umadbro' or 'qq'... and I simply reply 'GTFU' (grow up, in other words).
The other issues, aside from gameplay/class mechanics that came with 4.0.1 are shocking. All of the paid services issues that have gone without answer for 4+ days now. Players were charged (yes, money left their bank accounts) without paid server/faction transfers actually taking place.
The various disconnect issues for players. Issues in BG's, dungeons, etc.,... Players that can't log in or stay logged in.
Everyone casually dismisses the issues saying 'it happens' etc.,.. BS. This patch was seemingly rolled out with any true sense of QA whatsoever.
One of the worst patches in WoW history, if not 'the worst'.
First off no way. I hear the qq but its usually because people have to relearn something. So what. Focus is gonna be much better. Not carrying arrows is gonna be huge. I dont know hwy anyone would wine about either of these. Sorry i hate hunters with mana. I may actually try one again now that they have focus.
I have to relearn my pally tanking. Its not as easy as it was. So its getting easier is the dumbest argument anyone on this forum has made. With cc and mana being an issue for healers. Cata is gonna be a harder game then lk Anyone saying otherwise is an idiot.
Its hard enough in lk to get a hunter to not pull i cant wait for cata when some idiot ret pally tries to tank. Im leaving in 2 secs on my healer when that happens As i cant afford the mana to heal a guy with no anti crit talents. As for being disconnected. I havent had any of these issues ive run raids and dungeons since patch not one issue. I do miss my shadow vault fp . That said thats one of the few glitches ive seen.
Besides now we are just getting ready for 85. Lets face it they are making nerfs and buffs to some classes to try to balance at 80 but these trees and stuff were made for 85. Not 80 so of course they will have some balance issues for 2 months. This game will be asier to balance for pvp and pve in cata.
Hybrid builds sucked and if they worked forced a nerf to a trees good talents in order to balannce said hybrid build that worked. All the whining about only 3 trees now is ridiculous. since u only had 1 viable tree for raiding or pvp in lk Per class. So i dont understand what the qq here is about. Everythign was cookie cutter or u didnt get to raid.
I would put it on par with the CU, though. Or, the CU(RB), as some players called it.

On the 3 forums I read including the official ones I have not seen these complaints you are fabricating. Sure the imbalance thing happens everytime a pre-expansion pack comes along. Test realm data will never reflect what the mass populace will do when they get ahold of things and do their best to exploit mechanics.
I think you're talking about a small number of problems and are trying to blow it out of proportion like this is a doom patch.

Yes the game is harder now mechanic wise.
Yes it is easier to understand talent tree's and specs.
No it is not NGE instead of killing off entire specs like nge blizzard have given some new cool abilities.
I hear that. According to this site, the sky has been falling for years. You'd think it would have landed on us by now.
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
I have played a hunter in WoW since open beta and ammo has been the least of my concerns when playing the class. It is a pain when you forget to restock and run out but othewise I almost never paid attention to it. If rarer, more powerful ammo was available I would use it for tough bosses but usually I would just stick to the highest level vendor ammo that was available. There was no customization or specialization involved at all.
Exactly...never has been. This other guy that posted though made it sound like ammo made the difference and enhanced his hunter. ::shakes her head::
And some players enjoyed the challenge of keeping stocked up on food, drink, ammo and whatnots.. Then there are those carebears that cant' be bothered with anything outside of just click and shoot.. Oh well..

"Hero of Time!

You either learn to adapt and have fun or you don't and stop subbing.
These changes are not even in the same dimension as the NGE for SWG.
And yet everything you listed was fixed in the first 2 months of WOTLK minus pally's bein easy
So you hated WOTLK and yet are still playing to be able to comment on this latest patch?
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
Boring.

This isn't the NGE.
Now there is a bit of choice at least.
4.0.1 is the reverse of NGE. They're bringing Vanilla back!
Do you know for certain?
