The best computer roleplaying game still. The only game that brings the feeling of a pen and paper D&D session to the computer.

Its a shame NWN2 is superior to it in almost every way.

Interesting timing, I just so happened to pull out my Neverwinter Nights Diamond edition disk last evening (which I've never loaded) and was wondering if it was still worth trying/playing this game?
So what do you think, should I give it a shot?

If you like D&D, and can stand the rather horrid graphics, its a good deal for $10.

Actually it is not. NWN2 will never reach anywhere close to where NWN1 was a couple of years after its release.
Today NWN2 is about 4 years from its relase while NWN1 is probably 9 year from when it first appeared.
The amount of players in NWN2 is only about one third of what NWN1 has and it is going down. A more compelling compare would be to compare the games a couple of years after relase...where the ratio will be more like 20 to 1 in favor of NWN1.
For me as a multiplayer gamer (aren't all people in this forum multiplayer gamers?) NWN2 was a huge failiure. It looked far from as polished as NWN1 and even though you could blast of good screenshots actually moving around in NWN2 was a painful sight. Animation and camera sucked beyond belief. That they recycled most of the audio from NWN1 just added to the crappy feel.
Horrible GUI and near to non existing animations didn't help. Oh...did I mention that the most vital functions in multiplayer...like chatting..and other...had been severaly nerfed....
That the NWN1 toolset was a lot better didn't make things worse. Also it is easier to make custom content for NWN1 and the amount if it is staggering.
Warmaster670, check the video I posted on youtube and you will see that NWN1 has more than enough graphics to battle NWN2 and also it is a far greater platform for this type of gaming.

This is NOT an ugly game!
Some of the best custom content has been used for thoose screenshots...and its shows.
Unfortunately that server showed in the screenshots is not online anymore but if you check that Youtube video in my first post you will see a similar looking server that is very much alive.

I dont need to check anything, ive played both games, and NWN2>NWN.
Maybe if all you care about is playing online with random people, but as far as playing solo/small group of friends NWN2 is bar far better.
As for those screens yay the terrain looks decent, but even you said theres custom content being used, im talking flat games, but even then im sure the characters in that screen still look like crap like they used to, cant really so though its way to zoomed out

See, I could never get into it becuase it seemed to much like hack and slash. If I want hack and slash I would play Diablo. Plus, when I played it last, it seemed like all you could have to your party beside yourself is just one other henchman? Is that still the case? I also remember not really being able to modify the henchmans AI either? Let me know if I'm confusing this with another game.

Does this download include the toolset/editor? That was by far my favorite part of the game, and my disk has gone missing.
I cant see why it wouldnt, that should just be part of the game, at least i remember having it but never actually going and installing it.

Their better grafics than say cartoon wowish stuff .I was gona link a few screen shots but any one can just go to the link an see them easy enuff.
It also comes with the games soundtrack.GoG has been putting out alot of great old games with out drm.Makeing alot of old games run on new systems . I have bought evil genius ,arcanum, tropico reloaded an have been very pleased with their games .No jumping threw hoops to play ofline unlike steam.
The Diamond Edition includes the original Neverwinter Nights and three official expansion packs: Shadows of Undrentide, Hordes of the Underdark and Kingmaker.

for 9,99 thats a good deal. Not all games have to have bleeding edge crysis 2 grafics to be good.
http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/baldurs_gate_the_original_saga also great game
http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/icewind_dale_complete another all good but not with latest grafics.
Then again i still play everquest an its grafics are mostly serviceable. So my bar is not set high as say Age of conan .Which i have lag even with 2 260gtx cards in sli ( tried everything) .True grafics can help a games experiance but its not the end all or be all of a good game.

This should be the whole game...even with the needed expansions. The toolset as well as the DM client are parts of the game...so I am pretty sure it must be in this package...

Why is this news? The Diamond Edition has been available from Amazon and other bargain bins for five years now, usually under 10 bucks.
Because now you can actually DOWNLOAD the game and have it "now" more or less.
Before you had to order it on Amazon, pay expensive delivery and then wait a month before realising it went out of stock.
That is the difference...
...and it has been out of the bargain bins and stores in Europe for a very long time...

I'm seriously considering giving up on MMOs for a while and going back to "my roots", finding a good NwN PW and just having fun.

Yeah its a great C-RPG, although I did like Baulders Gate more.
And NWN-2 absoultely sucked ass compaired to NWN.
Think I may just have to drop a few dollards and revisit the game.
Are there still private servers up? After all these years..hundreds you say.
"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."
I can t agree with this. NWN1 is so much better it s not even funny.
I have to agree with Leucent. I played NWN1 for years, and it was by far the best RP experience I've had to date. NWN2 messed up so many things - the spell effects and player models are atrocious, it's more stressful on your computer than Oblivion for graphics that aren't half as good, the controls are incredibly clunky compared to NWN1, they need to burn in hell for removing my radial context menus, it was made MUCH harder to make really massive persistent worlds due to map size issues, and more.
NWN2 is still an overall decent game, but NWN1 was simply amazing.
Oh dear God, are you alright?!? That fall must have really hurt!
-Letting Derek Smart work on your game is like letting Osama bin Laden work in the White House. Something will burn.-
-And on the 8th day, man created God.-
Anybody who played the NWN 1 campaign games and did not play on a good persistant world server, didn't reallly play this game. NWN 1 was all about the community and custom content. I played on a NWN 1 pw server for around 3 years and was far more addicted to it than I ever have been to any MMO...or any other game for that matter.
Yeah, NWN had one of the best stories in a computer RPG I ever seen, while NWN2 had the same story as most games.
The programming was a lot worse in NWN2 too, Obsidian never stand a chance there.
And not to mention art, NWN had brilliant art, among the best I ever seen and it made games like Wow and GW who have generally good art look pathetic if you compare them.
WN is the best computer RPG I ever played, online or not. The Aurora toolset was great too, I both made some stuff myself and played a lot of other peoples modules, both off and on line.
NWN2 was amusing enough for the month I played it but it was just acceptable, not great.
Just wondering why i don't see the download available on bioware's site, can you only buy it on gog.com?
GOG.com is the only place I know where you can buy and DOWNLOAD the game yes.
Otherwise a normal boxed set of CD's can probably be bought at places like Amazon.com and so on...
