I think it must be people that can't get a job at any other major company that ends up working at CM.
As seriously, as long as I remember they have always screwed up. With launches, patches. Everything. Always something.
The only other European MMO hosting company that's even worse than them is GOA. And thank god for them being out of business now. As they completely ran WAR into the ground here in Europe.
The community site of LOTRO Europe has been working fine all day. The Service status page is directly linked to the patcher!
So it totally beats me why they haven't used that medium to keep people updated. As most people are checking that page or the game launcher!
No instead, they are all more busy having a Youtube music video contest aka discussion on Twitter!
At least it tells you something about the professionalism (read total lack thereof) of CodeMasters.
Very well said, at last the file worked and i´m patching...if anyone can call that patching..it´s impossible slow. Great launch really.
Half the servers are still down and the store is broken (it lists point prices in $ and you can't actually buy them, nor access your account information). Great launch... not... hehe. But at least it seems to be working once you're in, as long as the server you want to play on isn't one of those not up yet and you don't feel the need to use the store.
I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Just adding my update experience with a few hints to help people who may encounter difficulties : I patched from existing client (lifetime membership) very quickly (1mb/s or more), it took me 20 minutes max.
Had first the infamous "hash" problem then the launcher asked me to download a DirectX9 program from Microsoft website.
I didn't do anything, just closed the launcher and retried later. Both problems were linked as far as i know to update servers overloaded or offline.
Everything then patched automatically, the old launcher closed and restarted as a new launcher and continued to patch. So just try and retry some times with normal launcher procedures before downloading files or clicking on files in your LOTRO folder as indicated in this forum thread (not saying it's wrong, just that you can try the "normal" way first).
Last thing: the launcher wasn't using the right language for me, I clicked the language tab on the launcher and restarted it, there's an unclear message about it in the launcher window saying you can mix up things doing so, read it, I didn't quite understand and I'm puzzled why their launcher couldn't identify my already installed language...
You can check your Turbine Points clicking on the store icon on your UI in the game, a lot of people like me seem to have 4500+ TP. Codemasters promised more as far as I remember but forum says points are still being added to accounts.
That's all for now, hope you don't have trouble updating, keep cool whatever happens and as we say in middle-earth, safe travels !
Ok, patching was not 100% silky smooth, but besides the hashing bug, it went lightning fast, which is a great thing. Downloading was at 15Mbit (using my total b/w) all the way, and that's impressive. Took sg. like 10-15 minutes in total.
Now, the game is completely flooded with new players, it's enjoyable to stand in the middle of Thorin's Gate and see everyone running everywhere. These are indeed good times to join!
