I've given up. I've been such a hardcore sandbox fanatic for so long, every sandbox game besides EvE & Ryzom have let me down. I finally just picked a mmo with the best content I could find that wasnt WoW and im sticking with it. I have no hope for a revival of what the genre was.
[Mod Edit]
I don't think we've met, but I do think you can't make a decent discussion about why you would hate on a game which was build on previous MMO's.
So tell me: what had UO on to Blizzard's game except it lacked all the above added things.
And better answer on topic instead of derailing things.
Dude back when i was just a lurker here I watched this guy make a thread more than 600 posts long saying WoW was the ultimate sandbox... He's like legendary on this forum.
Edit: Anyway back on topic!! What was the topic again? lol
Gotcha, will avoid haha. Oh man that was a scary couple of minutes.
I don't see a new Blizzard mmo topping WoW . Warcraft came along at exactly the right time just as most of us were getting broadband for the first time .It worked well on most pcs even 5 years ago . MMOs were a novelty to the majority of the public . It does'nt follow that a new product by Blizzard would capture the public imagination in the same way . Given the way WoW has been handled many gamers feel Blizzard has lost a certain amount of credibility and would never try a new Blizzard mmo other will remain happily seated in Warcraft . Although I gather this game will not be Warcraft 2 my betting is it will have a lot of Warcraftyness to it . I would imagine the OP is right and that it is at the stage of developement where there is some sort of playable version . I might take a look at it when its released in the hopes that it will be like the experiance i had in WoW vanilla . The miniute they start to dumb it down I'm off though . Once bitten twice shy .
You would have to wonder why Blizzard would start this early hype with little meaning ?
Any one man team can create a playable character within the first week ,especially since they are licensing the engine, that alone is 2-5 years of work,so they have skipped the hardest part of making a game.Without going into any detail, what exactly does playable mean?
It could mean a map with no content, and a player that can move through that map.It might not involve any mechanics at all, just a map rendered, heck you don't even need to use any textures yet, just one mans two days of work to create an animated character.Making an empty map takes about 1 minute tops, people that have worked in game design know exactly what i am talking about.
So again you have to ask why??IMO it is just Blizzard trying to constantly remain in the publics eye.It is a sort of roundabout way of telling Wow players to hang on playing Wow,there will be a new game for Blizzard junkies coming soon.
You cannot take any developer seriously if they release something like this with no proof/detail at all, this is much like when Wow was released,if your game is so successful and so good, why would you constantly need to tell people how many are playing your game?Blizzard keeps secrets for a reason,if too much information gets out,it gets dissected and eventually people start to wonder what the heck Blizzard is on about.
If it is such a big secret to keep it a secret ,why tell us anything at all? This is maybe one of the top 3 guys in Blizzard and he knows full well that Blizzard is not going to release anything concrete,so again why feed us BS?

Do you mean to tell me, you think UO didn't have Dungeons, Raids, Battlegrounds, Arenas, quests, and even leveling?
UO had dungeons. UO had battlegrounds. UO had huge raids, much bigger than WoW raids. UO had arenas everywhere. UO had quests. And yes, in UO, you could level skills.
Oh let's see, back in 1997 Ultima Online had this that Blizzard still doesn't have in WoW.
A good crafting system
Housing
Placing items in the world
Meaningful PvP
Uninstanced open worlds
Naval combat
Treasure hunting
pick pocketing.
Need I go on? I mean, I know you're just a troll, but... really.
As for this game being even more player friendly than WoW, how is that even possible? Do they give you one button to press that automatically levels you up or something? I mean, WoW is the bottom of the barrel easiest MMO out there, can't go lower, and even if you did, what would that net you? A few more people?
Dungeons, Raids, Battlegrounds, Arenas, quests, and even leveling (you can do that too), seamless open worlds and fill it up with invisible walls.
And you have ... Ultima Online ! Surprise.
Is it that difficult to understand ?
Yes, because the game you are talking about is not UO but Meridian 59 (but it had levels).
Have you even played UO? No.
MMOs started out with 2 Different games, Meridian 59 and UO. Merdian inspired EQ which inspired Wow. UO inspired the original SWG (before NGE) and Eve.
They are 2 different types of games, it is like comparing a FPS game and a RTS one. You basically said that if you strip battlefield of all it's new features it would become Red alert.

UO had a player governed world, Meaningful crafting, Flexible skill systems, Pvp with risk...
Oh and im not hating on WoW was just pointing out what the masses like that we dont.

Garvon dont go too into detail when arguing with this guy. he will nitpick 1% of your post to keep the discussion in his favor and avoid everything else.

Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
Interesting. I'm curious with what new franchise Blizzard will come up with. It'll be their first new franchise in more than a decade.
