They estmate future for their investors, and it was stated that they miss their estmate. In the report really the only thing that matter is the numbers, but you are useing quote. That going to show that you do not know how to read the report.
My friend... please be careful in the future when making statements about what people do or do not know. As you said above, "the only thing that matters is the numbers", yet your post yesterday claimed "The loss could mean anything. It could mean that was unexpected expenses, and not a drop revenue". Simply looking at "the numbers" will show you the revenue drop year over year....
Anyhow, arguing about the companies financial state isn't going to change it. The numbers are the numbers... and how it plays out over the next six months will have little do do what you or I think about their report. I think we are in double digits on pages here. Probably time to let it rest.. heck we are almost 1/2way through the 4th quarter already!

Since the game came out in July, what it basically means is they've been losing money and subs since they released. Bear in mind that the ONLY reason they released when they did was because they couldn't scrub up the finances to continue developing - then you got the minimal injection they got from Henrik's dad selling all his shares, and some loans which are eating them up now.
To say they have less players then expected is an understatement of incredible proportions. Old Beta players will remember how they were throwing around numbers of "13,000 subs to break even, and we have 17,000 boxes sold so its good". And in the meantime, I got a current GM leaking that they're at ~150 players European prime time.

Your ongoing revenue should be able to finance your ongoing R&D costs. Cearly this isn't happening. You will never pay off your development costsw if you can't cover ongoing R&D.
ANy game should see a number of "tourists" after a launch. However, ongoing subs + new purchases should be able to easily cover ongoing R&D. You don't get a chance to bump sales without a large marketing investment (such as blizzard)..

My friend... the term year OVER year is used when comparing financial reports by comparing this reporting period to the prior year's reporting period. Thus a statement like we had 50% growth year over year means you grew 50% in Q3 this year vs Q3 last year.
You were talking about how the loss might not be because of a drop in revenue... so I simply pointed out that if you read the report you would see that year OVER year for this period their revenue was down (it's actually down about 50%). And yes, you are right.. expenses ARE up. This is what happens when you switch from running a beta to switching to a live game with all of the support needed (24/7 server... tech support... etc). So in general, expenses went UP... and revenue went DOWN. This creates a loss... which shows on the report.
Like I said... our discussion isn't going to change the numbers and we are halfway through the 4th quarter now, so perhaps it's best to put this one to rest as 13 pages is probably a record when talking about an MMO company's quarterly report.

They made money last year. They made money in the 9 months of this year. So, how is that lossing money? Yes, reveune is down, and they are still making money.
If you think this is a pointless discussion then why reply?
They were in Beta state for 6 months of this year. Less expenses as others explained, more DD and box sales, more subs on launch as people came to check it out and left.
The REAL lifetime of the game is from launch onwards when the Subs started rolling and Live expenses ramped up.
According to the numbers, they can't support R&D with amount of subs which is dropping by all accounts.

OK... I'm going to try this one more time. They DID make money last year. They DID make money overall for the first 9 months of this year. They DID lose money since they launched the game. See... prior to launch.. everything they did was focused on development with minimal support costs.. so it was all revenue in to help fund the development. Now the problem is that they have a huge lag between when they got the money.. and delivered the product. Most companies can sell the boxed copy.. start subs.. and live off the revenue of the subs with the boxed (account) sales providing a nice spike up and cushion. In this case.. the revenue from the box/account sales has been spent ove the last year... and the only significant revenue coming in now is the subs which Henrick has stated were significantly lower than plan/target. He even specifically mentions a target of +25% for Q4 over Q3. That is a HUGE number my friend, yet.. if that number isn't reached the only alternative is to slash expenses (ie developers). We have seen this happen recently.. where 4 developers (let's call it 20%) left the company... and one was added. That is a slash in expenses. Next quarter we will see if this new expense level is in line with the revenues for Q4. If it is.. they are fine.. if not.. they will needs to once again either increase revenue somehow or slash expenses again.
But please don't take my word for it... just look at the stock trend. It's trading around 1/3 of what it was trading at around launch time. Why do you think that is?

Thank you for clearing this up..
Who else thinks MO will be sold off and ressurected as F2P MMO within the next 2 years? lol

No they're on some market nobody ever heard about, for small businesses just starting up in Sweden. Wall Street would imply your CEO's previous position wasn't mail-spamming scams for poker sites.
Its about .10 cents USD a share right now after converting it. Does not look like they will survive for much longer, it was a great dream
We've seen how SV has "developed" the game with funding, hows it going to be with little/no funding?
The games been loosing money since launch and its stock is at a RECORD low. Unless theres a major turn around in the next 35 days SV Q4 will be disastrous.
What is really interesting about the listed trading stats this week is that they are of increasing volumes. I am no expert but it looks like quite a few are dumping their shares given these volumes. Bad news for SV!
I would like ask those here the following; do you think sites like mmorpg.com and posts by myself and others inform, whether in a small or larger way, these trends in stock values and the volume of sales/acquisitions?
Originally posted by maharet Now I am not stock expert. With the stock tanking ( hovering around 0.9 USD) How are they still in business?
The operating expenses of a business aren't necessarily related to their stock prices. The stock price could drop to $0.01 and the company itself could truck along just fine. It would just mean that nobody is going to invest in the company. In fact, devaluing your stock to buy it all back when your company is very solvent would make a predatory sort of sense. Maybe not good long term sense, but it could be profitable.
Companies generally do stuff to make themselves look profitable, regardless of whether they are or not so that investors will buy stock, increasing the available cash for the company to spend. SV may not be able to do this.
edit - This could all be made up by my over active imagination. You should probably at least look up how stocks work on Wikipedia.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I'd say yes, in an indirect way. Negative press hinders subscirptions, which limits growth which will make investors less keen to take a risk on the company.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of those who buy stock have little interest in the game itself, just its potential to provide return on investment. Therefore I would guess that the people buying and selling stock are unlikely to be reading these comments unless they happen to be gamers themselves. Then again, given the obscurity of MO and the tiny following it has, I imagine the majority of shareholders either know the people at SV or are customers.

But SV has been loosing money since release, so "trucking along" doesnt seem probable. They cant continue long without an influx of funds and selling shares at this point doesnt seem viable.

Who else thinks MO will be sold off and ressurected as F2P MMO within the next 2 years? lol
Currently Playing:
Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
With the current balance sheet they won't make it 2 years. Wtihout significant cash reserves they wont make it 6 months.
Starvault AB hits 1.00 SEK, historic low. The Q4 is not looking good. (1.00 SEK is $00.14 USD)
I win!!! LOL@U

I wasnt expecting the 3Q to have such a large impact. Its time for SV to make a statement.

I'm a layman there, but it looks like someone's going bankrupt. Or they're knocking the share value down so some suicidal investor can buy them out.
they would have to be crazy to buy all the stock is this company on wall street??
No they're on some market nobody ever heard about, for small businesses just starting up in Sweden. Wall Street would imply your CEO's previous position wasn't mail-spamming scams for poker sites.
Repent, Starvault, for the end is nigh.
Mortal Online is like a prostitute that tells you she loves you so she can get more money out of your horny pocket.
They are losing about .6-.11 a day in stock value.

I win!!! LOL@U
Now I am not stock expert.
In short, I don't know
But SV has been loosing money since release, so "trucking along" doesnt seem probable. They cant continue long without an influx of funds and selling shares at this point doesnt seem viable.
