ok so i was looking at the Tera's website and besides the fact that they have a few different races this game looks exactly like Aion to me. i mean the ranger...same as Aion, the berserker ...same as the gladiator, the lancer ...same as templer except with a lance (which is kinda cool), warrior.....same as assasin, mages ....same as sorcerer/spirit master. the combat animation also remids me a lot fo Aion. even all the back drops in the few video clips look almost exactly like the starting zones in Aion. the art style...same as Aion. the armors....very close as well.
i realize that this is eastern made game, but is it basically gonna be Aion minus sticky targeting and with no flying?

TERA is WoW and Aion's imbred cousin.
But does Aion have these?!

Yes because any game with a actionbar, quests and classes is WoW and any game with a Asian stylized look is Aion...

Yeah no one cares about EQ or FFXI anymore. I thought you knew this?
Would it be a plus or a minus?

Have you watched any of the TERA videos? How could you with a straight face even put WoW and Aion in the same sentence?
How are these games even remotely similar?

What do you think it is then? Whats your opinion of it? Not like I care.
I don't know man. It's a weird bear thing. It's an equal sign.
Why ask if you don't care? lol

Most Asian games look the same to me.

Does it really look asian though? check out the videos it has a western artstyle (mostly).

Not to sure about others but i think its TERA. Or in other words, its own game. Doesn't look anything like Aion and to even compare it to WoW is just silly.
That one swooshed.
i'm sorry but have you actually played Aion at all? or just looked at youtube vids of it? because it looks A LOT like Aion.
Forgive me its early here. this is what i get for posting on forums at 6am before my coffee...

Heres my 2c on the subject.
Considering the games attempt at a new type of combat system and its incredibly stunning Westernized visuals (as a asian made game) I just dont think its fair to pawn this game off as a WoW or Aion Clone.

I have played Aion. Apart from Asian style graphics it does't look a thing like it.
Isn't their combat system more action/twitch oriented? Like DDO or Darkfall? Is there anything really new about it or is it just kind of like a typical single player action/RPG battle system?
Anyway, that would make gameplay different than both Aion and WoW.
Is there going to be quest based progression that is pseudo-linear?
Is it going to have a quest log?
Is it going to have a hotbar?
Is it going to have a minimap with quest objectives on it?
Is it going to have levels?
Sounds like combat might be the only thing different than Aion or WoW.
Other than sandbox games all themepark & hybrids have everything you listed. I wouldnt call anything with quest progression, similar UI or levels a WoWclone or Aion Clone...
From what i've seen the combat is closer to DDO than DF. Considering DDO is hardly a MMO i think its new for the genre.
I was watching that video with the dev demoing the tankard class and it was freaking awesome. Just how i always imagined tanking to be like if we had a more reactionary style of combat instead of our basic EQ combat.

Unfortunately, there are many people whose considerations of a game are based on such superficial and limited criteria. Many people don't bother to do very much research into a given game, and draw their conclusions based on the least significant details. Hell, all a MMO needs is an action bar and a minimap for many to call it a WoW clone... not realizing that both of those things well pre-date WoW, and that Blizzard, by no means, "invented" them.
The way certain classes work is *often* going to overlap with other games. How many MMORPGs can you think of where the mage can cast a fireball? Or a warrior type has a spinning slash attack of some sort? Do we really want to even begin to start to ponder which of those games is "very similar to" which other games?
There's only so many ways you can swing a sword. There's only so many ways you can fire an arrow, or multiple arrows. The more important detail - which seems to be ignored in the OP - is how the combat systems in TERA and Aion are entirely different; TERA's being far more dynamic.
Personally, beyond both games featuring vibrant worlds and a somewhat Eastern design, I think it looks nothing like Aion. Just the world design alone sets it apart (and in my opinion, above) Aion. TERA looks and "feels" far more massive than Aion does.
If you want to compare MMOs and are interested in seeing how they stand on their own, it's typically better to look at their differences. In that respect, TERA has many differences that set it apart from Aion, as well as many other MMOs.

If you're going to use those specific items for comparison, then I could say it makes it similar to Asheron's Call 2, which had those things and pre-dates WoW. I could say it makes it like EQ1, which pre-dates WoW and had many of those things. I could say it makes it like Lineage 2, which pre-dates WoW, and has those things.
The things you listed are common to MMORPGs in general.... not any specific one.
If Combat is all you see as different than Aion or WoW, then, your knowledge of TERA is very limited.

Well, I mean, there are probably more things. The list is probably really long - the list of things that this games shares with a typical themepark MMORPG like Aion or WoW.
But uh, I was looking at videos of it and it really does look like a single player action/RPG to me when it comes to combat. It could be fun. But I fail to see the amazing. It's a nice little game with an almost Fable-like combat system.
I think people have a tendency to overstate the differences in games a lot of the time. This is a themepark MMORPG with an action/RPG combat system. Without the combat system, I could see how it could be compared to Aion or WoW.
It does have some similar designed NPC's but speaking of playable classes, Allods Online got one of those
But in todays world of mmo's almost every game got some similaritys. It's hard to create unique content that players will addopt. But looking at those gameplay videos (and yes, I have been playing Aion) I can say that they do look pretty much the same

Fat shugos?
Shouldnt fun be the only thing that matters?
If the combat rocks and its the focus of the game isnt that enough? even if a basic mmo surrounds it?
By basic i mean genre defining (UI, Quests, dungeons, classes).
