Well, I mean, there are probably more things. The list is probably really long - the list of things that this games shares with a typical themepark MMORPG like Aion or WoW.
But uh, I was looking at videos of it and it really does look like a single player action/RPG to me when it comes to combat. It could be fun. But I fail to see the amazing. It's a nice little game with an almost Fable-like combat system.
I think people have a tendency to overstate the differences in games a lot of the time. This is a themepark MMORPG with an action/RPG combat system. Without the combat system, I could see how it could be compared to Aion or WoW.
Shouldnt fun be the only thing that matters?
If the combat rocks and its the focus of the game isnt that enough? even if a basic mmo surrounds it?
By basic i mean genre defining (UI, Quests, dungeons, classes).
Yeah. And I don't personally think of this thing as a "clone" of anything. I'm just trying to say that I can see how some people could compare it to WoW or Aion using the right set of lenses. Ignore combat, and many of the systems are similar to WoW. Look at the graphics and I can see how someone might see some Aion.
I'm also personally a fan of the target system in RPGs. It just feels more like an RPG and less like an action game. Like... I prefer Baldur's Gate II over Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. So I tend to look at this system and not be as excited as a lot of people. That may be part of the reason I'm not "getting it."
I've been saying it looked like Aion from day one. Sounds just as bad as it too. Meaning the sound effects, not the music. I dig the music in Aion and Tera. It's the character sounds and combat sounds I can't stand.
The style and gameplay footage has the exact same "feel" as Aion. If that is what you like, great. I personally am not a fan of Aion's aesthetics and therefore Tera is very low on my "to play" list. I'll still give it a shot though, I'm not opposed to different game styles.
If the game blows me away in the fun category then it won't feel like Aion at all, lol.
The game indeed looks like Aion in terms of graphics but if some of you may not know this, IT IS IN FACT THE SAME ENGINE AION USES, however that does not make the game to be the same as aion/wow clone, read the story behind tera find out why most of the Developers in there are ex NCsoft and why they left, find out why Brian knox left Aion and moved on to something using the same engine which we know today as "TERA", understand why the game has 9 writers, understand why it has over 1000s of quests and over 2 million words plus the emotional rewarding system that you get through the plot solving and the story arcs in that game, also you need to understand why Bluehole studio has givin a green light for En masse to modify the game and make their Own version Of tera and not a version that follows the korean updates (like Aion does), Understand why Tera has 3 publishers working on their own localization unlike Aion who had english client who followed the Korean update step by step, (only just recenly NCsoft made a developer department in the west for Aion in fact) these are few reasons that should give some of you an idea why there is alot of hype going on about TERA, imo i think the game has a potential to fix what aion lacked at least.
I'm sorry, but there's absolutely nothing "Westernized" about TERA's character graphics, clothing, bodies and animation. Let alone their weapons and voice work.
If you even remotely think that those things are "Westernized" then, damn... you're really out there.
While i agree on the graphic/outfit part with you about it not being "Westernized", however i do beileve that what they intended from the start was a "Westernized" gameplay version of Tera and not graphics, otherwise it would be a whole different game than Tera itself
Having actually played Aion... I can see where you might see some similarities, but "almost exactly" is just completely wrong. They have a similar style, they use the same graphics engine... but that's about it.

Um no.
Aion uses the cryengine1 and tera uses the UE3 engine.
The artistic styles of both games are similar but that is about as far as it goes with it comes to pameplay.
Aion has very small game zones due to the limits of the cryengine, Tera's landmass can be compared to wow's in total land area.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Graphics, animations etc. don't get "westernized". And they better stay as they are.

My bad then, however i am sure i have heard in an interview something about technical similarities even though i thought it is Engine, it seems it is not the case here as i tried to address to our fellow gamers the game is not really the same as aion or a wow clone despite the fact that it had some similarities
They have some similarities in style, and so for that matter have GW 1 & 2.
But they are similarities, like 2 blond ladies dressed in black have similarities, but not the same as twins.
Yes, all of them seems to think that female armor should reveal as much as possible instead of having practical use (not in all case but often enough). The art style is kinda a mix between western regular art style with some anime influence.
But even if the games look very much alike eachother (which they don't) it is the gameplay that matters, not the art unless the art really sucks.

Your bad again, the only similarity they have is the eastern style and even in that matter the races/factions in two games look nothing alike. Also, I have played Aion a lot to know that the way the made CE sucks, the colors look very very dull and the contrast is awfully bad compared to TERA where the enviroments look very lively and pleasant to look at.
Ok so there is definatly a link in the art styles with asian games, But Tera has done a good job imo to show some western style with a hint of anime, especially on the humans and amani race.
But to say eith Aion or Tera look likes Wow is pretty ignorant. Even Tera looks distinct from Aion.
Fair enough question though. And everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Just so people know that some of Tera's Development people worked on Lineage 2 and the people who developed L2 also worked on Aion, so the styles are a bit similar to each other.

1) So the archers both have bows and both games have 2-handed classes.
2) Both games are mainly eastern art style.
And WoW looks way too much like Half Life, they both play with mouse+keyboard!!!1
But well..Successful troll is successful.
PvP, for one thing, is worlds apart from both Aion and WoW...but then again, I just added to the troll bait didn't I?
Anime cleavage art style looks all the same to me. Still, I'm probably going to play it.

TERA is going to be a korean grindfest with manuel aim. If fans think En Masse is going to truly westernize it you are in for a let down.
The "physics" is so much more realistic than AION though LOL

Does anyone think?..

+1

No I don’t, they both have Asian theme art style but to me they do not look alike.
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon

i think we should all not care because of Rifts, TOR, and GW2.

I think for me its GW2,Tera, Rift in that order

OP is way too ignorant, you need to play more MMORPG's if you're going to compare apples to catfish
I cherish the thought of a game that looks as good as Aion but is actually a good game. Maybe TERA could fit that bill.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
