You actually bought that, LOL? Crafting has been a planned feature all along in this game, it is in no way a tack on. The very fact that companions are associated with it should be evidence enough of that, as well as the fact that the auction system will be tied in to it also.

Thats kinda lame i hope there are other ways to pvp then instanced bs, i could just log on to wow and get the same thing.... As for crafting, why would i want to send a `npc` to go get my mats ?? and then when they have them i just need to open a interface and click a button, and voila a new pair of shoes, wow this is really deep loll
i dont think this will be my cup of tea
You find gathering mats fun? I don't begrudge you that but I also keep asking the naysayers where in the info released does it even say you have no choice but to let your companions do it, it seemed to me atleast one example used only suggested if you are travelling you have the option to send the companion with you to gather from nodes and if that is in fact the case how is it not better since it would then be the exact same as every other game that allows you to gather your own mats but it also offers you the option to not have to worry about breaking your or the groups pace to do so?
Ok bigpgimy next question is once you go and gather your own mats what more have you done in a game with crafting than opening an interface or multiple interfaces and then clicking a button to get voila a new pair of shoes?
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

It does seem symptomatic of some deep-seated anxiety in the Bioware, EA and LA Partnership making this game.
It is already known that originally and, in fact, until quite a late stage in development, there was going to be no crafting in the game at all.
Then the developers began receiving reports that a large proportion of their potential player base was unhappy about the absence of crafting which, after all, is a staple of almost every other MMO.
And that's why they devised this system, as a bolted on feature that doesn't iminge on the main game at all but which allows them to say 'Look, we have crafting!'. Will the majority of actual players be satisfied by what seems to me to be a shallow, not-player-controlled system? I am not convinced.
Crafting was always, ALWAYS planned to be in the game. They also did something NEW to crafting that we haven't seen in such detail before, with options apart from crafting that no games really have.
BioWare releases information on crafting and details on warzones and the people who have been complaining all along and making baseless remarks are still doing so. Seems par for the course.
Pvp is a part of mythic mmo's that has always been top notch i didnt expect it to be any diffrent in tor.
Mythic, Top Notch, and PvP do not belong in the same sentence. I would argue since Magestorm, Mythic has created a piss poor player versus player experience. Anyone who takes off their rose-tinted glasses can clearly see how horrible the Dark Age of Camelot PvP system was. It had one thing done correctly - uneven number of teams. If all you want is Star Wars FPS Scrims(AKA Scenarios, Arenas, Battlegrounds, whateveritiscalledinthisgame), go play a FPS game with a Star Wars mod. End Of.

Kindly direct us to any factually based information that you have that says crafting was never intended for the game and that it was tacked on at late stages? For you to know this there must be information on it that I certainly missed, which is strange since I am eagerly anticipating this game while you aren't.

Considering from the outset they've said this game will have what people expect in MMO's. Crafting, PVP raids etc... I don't think there's going to be much evidence of the above to be found.

Jax, i guess its me, but i prefer to go out and gather my mats instead of the system devised atm, ike you say its pretty much the same, for ME i feel more involved with the game if i have to go out and gather instead of getting it done... And i dont know if Zerminus is lying our not, and i dont care lol... And btw, im not saying you guys are wrong for liking this system lol, live and let live. From my point of view, what i hear that will come with this game atm, doesnt sound that different from what i could get elsewhere, this seems to me like the same old shit, only that this time the shit covered with a plastique bag

Well, if the game doesn't sound like it's for you then it probably isn't. If your basing that opinion off of what Zerminus is saying, then you should probably hold off on forming your opinion just yet. Zerminus is intentionally trying to spread misinformation and has been on an anti SW:TOR crusade for a good while now lol.
Personally SW:TOR isn't for me. I love Bioware and I am and always will be a SW's fan. But this game is just a bit to linear for my tastes. Not knocking it or saying it's a bad game, just isn't my thing. I need a little more freedom than this is looking like it will offer.
Doesn't make it a bad game, just means it's not for me. But I do wish them luck cause it looks like it's going to be the next mass appeal game. Not a WoW killer lol, but the next large sub MMO out there p2p wise. 1) WoW 2) Aion and I could see SW:TOR taking the number 3 spot easy.
Wish I was more of a themepark quester kind of player, because some aspects of the game do look fun. Sadly I'm not.
well i respect all the positive comments people have been posting here and on the swtor forums.

unfortunately for me, i just can't celebrate as many others do.
a game that i was already prepared to pay for just because its star wars and look the other way on aspects which i considered silly is just getting worse and worse to the point that i am now doubting if i should purchase it at all.
alas, this will not be a game for everyone, as they said. this will be a game for a segment of players - just like the rest. and i'm beginning to think i am not in that segment.
i saw this new pvp video they just released.
its a nerfed version of counter strike. "go, go, go!".... .... fire in the hall anyone?
characters run and fight like robots. the "synchronised" combat system they are so very proud off just looks odd and un-natural.

Hey, no one is saying you're wrong to feel it's not for you. Don't make the mistake of seeing Zerminus's reception as an indication people have a problem with those who dislike the game. That's not the case at all, people just have an issue with misinformation and baiting, at least I do, I doubt I'm alone in that. I'd post the same in defense of a game I hate or loathe I just call it like I see it, as do others.
I personally have no want nor desire to defend any game, nor any publsiher, at the same time I can't stand to see posters baiting others based on misinformation and hyperbole.

You can still gather yourself. Pretty sure they said you can get your companion to go over to that node and gather the resources instead of you doing it. So if you really want to, you could most likely gather yourself.

I don't have a problem with that and I would certainly not try to beat anyone over the head to make them think the way I do, I just wanted to point out that if your problem seemed to be that you could not gather your own mats that I thought this would be a non issue since you would be able to gather yourself and even at that point if you say, "well it still isn't for me" I respect that because everything ins't for me either, I would probably get pissed if someone tried to no end to get me to even try FFXIV.
But as I think others have stated I certainly saw a need to counteract any "information" that Zerminus wanted to reveal because he has trolled this game with misinformation for as long as I can remember. And at the end of the day I like a good debate as anyone else who frequents the boards as much as I do.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
ha ha, yeah its pretty difficult to get non-biased information nowadays. I might still try the game out, but i doubt it will make the cut for me, like others previously said, the game looks like it will be pretty linear, i cant really pass any definitive judgement atm lol

pitty the gaming market has come to this.
People that have played the game say the combat is suprisingly very good.
Characters animations are fine, i've seen a lot worst.
The reference to counter strike i don't get. I've played CS for years and can't for the life of me see how CS would come up for PvP.

There's no question that Bioware is designing a game more so based on action and story-telling, and less based on a simulation of a galaxy. Which if that's what you were hoping for there's no question you shouldn't feel a bit let down and left with a feeling of passing this game over. That's completely understandable.
I used to have very much the same expectations when I looked into upcoming MMO's. It's in large part why I've been dissapointed with most releases in the last 5-6 years. I was always looking for a substitute for something that is mostly unavailable now. I wanted every game to be even deeper than it was, I wanted that community to magically appear in every new game I tried. It just didn't and isn't going to happen, I've come to terms with that. With TOR I have a different outlook. I just want it to be fun, the rest, I'll continue to wait for. Archage might even be the one who know's?

This is about as sure a bet as there could be for me as a fan of Bioware and Star Wars both but even with that I can't say (given what I know of the mmorpg industry) that this game is going to be the experience I expect it to be.
I find most of what I hear about the development of the game to be a positive but there were about a million people who thought that way about AOC,Aion, and most recently STO there are many factors that can influence a game for good or bad and I am well aware some of them can't even be determined yet but I would certainly advise anyone who isn't closed minded to give the game a try because if nothing else it could be shaping into the game that takes that step and bridges the gap between a commercially succeful mmorpg like wow and one with enough depth to keep players with more selective tastes involved like DF or Aion.

Yeah....while I like what they announced, I'm not quite as queer as anyone who types "i think i just came" is...If I EVER type that in that context, please...shoot me!
I'm sorry you didn't like anything they announced Troneas. TBH...I really don't think this game will ever be what you want it to be. I hope you get YOUR Star Wars game someday...this isn't exactly mine either, but it beats the alternative 2 (CWA/SWG) at the moment and I can find fun in most things I do (IRL and in gaming).
With all that you DISLIKE about SW:ToR, I really hope you're wrong, I hope you try it, I hope you enjoy it. Doesn't need to be your favorite game or even one you recommend, but I hope it's one you feel was/is worth your money at some point. Hell...I'm not even sure if it's worth MY money yet...but I have no expectations about what I feel the game should be...maybe you should try approaching it with a completely open mind?! Not one of expecting anything?! Or...maybe you just completely hate what they've confirmed so far...and that's fine too.
Wait...how can this be? Crafting? And a crafting system that can be DEEP? But...this was simply supposed to be a story driven, single player, once and done type of game. And a PvP system/scenario that sounds f'n awesome?! How can Bioware do this?! What about the story? What about what EA louse said about how they were panicking?
Fantastic info! Glad to get some new details about the game.
You think this crafting system is "DEEP"?
You think the PVP system/scenario sounds "f'n [sic] awesome"?
Really? Really? These are things you honesty think about a bolt-on feature mini-game you don't control and a rather ordinary BG system that WOW was doing four years ago? Really? Seriously?
Are you OK?
I agree TUX426 obviously hasn't played a mmorpg with a deep crafting system. As for the PVP, well it's WOW/WAR , nothing new or innovative about it.

its a combination of everything.
when i played AoC, that game was very linear as well. but i played it for months and enjoyed myself up until the point where i was only logging in to raids.
but its lush environments, combined with the spectacular character animations (both in combat and out of combat), the classes and the overall "feel" of the game made up for a linear experience.
what i was suggesting is that, when i see this warzone video, it all looks pretty artificial, shallow, and might i add silly. i just can't relate to it even as a big star wars fan.
but as another posted said here videos can be deceiving, but that was my impression and it contrasts with the words of joy and praise most people post.
I wonder how the possibily of of gathering offline and with your companion will effect the economy. I mean, you don't have to sacrifice any of your time to gather resources and if everyone can do it(?), wouldn't that have a huge effect on the inflation of the game economy ? Would love to hear more about the gathering aspect.
As to pvp, wasn't too impressed with the video, or the interview. The interview seemed more like the pvp designer explaining how they made wow battlegrounds better, by not just having points running on your screen, but your spaceships hp ! The comabt seemed kind of stiff, have to agree on that with Troneas.
I was really excited early on when I heard about the game, but it seems like the more I read and see about the development, the more I feel like waiting for a buddy key or free trial to prove me wrong on my current assumptions.

Thats funny, most people attribute SWG to be such a great crafting system, and TOR has some very unique ideas that kind of work alongside what SOE did originally. Automating a lot of your crafting procedures, queuing up special activities, increasing the things you can slice/find/create all sounds pretty deep when most games don't give you a quarter of the options.
And as for a deep crafting system, the best crafting system I've EVER seen was not in SWG, it was in vanguard. Being a crafter in vanguard took time, dedication and some skill. I doubt we'll see anything as deep as vanguard anytime soon. Not even with games like Xyson... if that ever gets released.

I agree I actually wish I had known you were playing AOC, I'd had tried to join you I played that longer than anything that's released in the last 6 years. Even made it to 79 just shy of max lol, a first for me in a lvl based game. Being a free-form skill-building fan myself.

I agree the video didn't exactly send the vibes I got from the article, it did seem rather contrived compared to what I had read prior. Although it is true videos can be deceiving. I hope it's a case of the latter here.

Hmmm, i don't need a lesson on Vanguards crafting system, i have been playing the game from beta till this very day. I was actually referring to Vanguard when i made the post but didn't mention it for fear of the over the top reaction you get when you mention Vanguard on these forums.
As for the system that BioWare are using ,it seems simplistic and lazy.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
For you to know this there must be information on it that I certainly missed, which is strange since I am eagerly anticipating this game while you aren't.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Sadly I'm not.
well i respect all the positive comments people have been posting here and on the swtor forums.
things like "i think i just came" and what not...
unfortunately for me, i just can't celebrate as many others do.
a game that i was already prepared to pay for just because its star wars and look the other way on aspects which i considered silly is just getting worse and worse to the point that i am now doubting if i should purchase it at all.
alas, this will not be a game for everyone, as they said. this will be a game for a segment of players - just like the rest. and i'm beginning to think i am not in that segment.
i saw this new pvp video they just released.
its a nerfed version of counter strike. "go, go, go!".... .... fire in the hall anyone?
characters run and fight like robots. the "synchronised" combat system they are so very proud off just looks odd and un-natural.
honestly i LOLed when i saw this video. so i suspect that its just not for me after all.
pitty the gaming market has come to this.

People that have played the game say the combat is suprisingly very good.
Characters animations are fine, i've seen a lot worst.
The reference to counter strike i don't get. I've played CS for years and can't for the life of me see how CS would come up for PvP.
at this point, one can only hope.

I find most of what I hear about the development of the game to be a positive but there were about a million people who thought that way about AOC,Aion, and most recently STO there are many factors that can influence a game for good or bad and I am well aware some of them can't even be determined yet but I would certainly advise anyone who isn't closed minded to give the game a try because if nothing else it could be shaping into the game that takes that step and bridges the gap between a commercially succeful mmorpg like wow and one with enough depth to keep players with more selective tastes involved like DF or Aion.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Looks very good! Big thumbs up.
