Yes Torchlight 1 does look cartoony. Not the Impression I get from diablo 3 at all. However we are talking Torchlight 2. Since the first sparked no interest because of how fluffy it looked. Not looking forward to a sequal at all. I'll put my money on D3 thanks

I am not sure clone is the right word since several people actually worked on both games. Strain and Roper were of course the 2 big guns but the question is still if it isn't evolving instead of copying in this case. You wouldn't call Diablo 2 a Diablo clone and this is close to it.

But I still have my doubt that T2 is more anticipated than D3. Many people have waited for D3 a long time.

If Blizz mess up and make D3 too far from the first 2 games T2 can still be the winner, there are many concerns that D3 will be made for Wow players instead of Diablo fans and if that is the case T2 might actually become more popular but that is still just speculation.

The best game will win in the long run no matter which it is.

Well of course D3 is more anticipated than Torchlight 2, it's because of the mass market audience that fawns over Blizzard. Most of the masses are ignorant of Torchlight's existance let alone what or how good it is. For most of these people just hearing the name Blizzard tied to a game is enough to make most of them pee themselves in excitement.

My prediction is that Torchlight 2 will be a much better game than Diablo 3, but unfortunately Diablo 3 will be more popular.

It's just the same old fanboy band-wagon propping up things far more than they really deserve to be.

I don't buy it.  Torchlight was a perfectly good game and all, but no way people are hyped on that sequel over D3.

    I'm waiting for Diablo 4.

Seriously, you have to be pretty out of touch with reality to think Torchlight 2 is going to hold a candle compared to Diablo 3.

  • GithernGithern Member Posts: 79

As much as I like Fate and Torchlight, it will not get the same press as Diablo 3 just because Blizzard can afford more publicity than poor Runic Games. Blizzard can buy more positive reviews either through under table or just by the sheer amount of features that they will include in Diablo 3. There is a true storyline in Diablo 3 no matter how flimsy and broken it might end up being. Torchlight will finally feature Multiplayer and I think that's aweasome. But let's face it, Blizzard has had WAY more experience creating an enjoyable multiplayer game. It just comes down for me to pricing, I will pick up Torchlight 2 just because it's budget. I will still end up getting more play time from Diablo 3 because it's DIABLO and I love the new art direction it's taking.

Take this as you want but this is just one person's opinion.

    lol.

For the people who love torchlight, hell yes.

For people who follow gaming in general, rofl. Not even in the same universe.

actually i enjoyed the sacred series way more then those 2

it has an  15 x 15 kilometers open world with scaling monsters.

a skill system that surprasses the dated skiltree,

    mounted combat and crafting

I have to admit it also has its fare share of bugs

but the game gets a lot less bland when it comes to variety

    Doubt it very much.

Anyway, I'm gonna play both games AND LIKE IT. :)

All it takes is one bad day.

Personally, im waiting for D3. Ive been waiting for it since before it was announced. I remember when it was announced. I was like, finally! Here comes the wait!

I was happy to know it was atleast in development.

Torchlight? I havent played it yet. I might not. Im gonna play Tochlight 2 to for sure. But im not hyped about its release. Im not anxious for it. The series just hasnt been out long enough to it to build up any anticipation for me. Not like D3.

I dont know how everyone else feels. And im not gonna pretend like i do, which is what i think the op is doing. Since theres no evidence of this anywhere besides maybe the site posted. Which seems to be more a list of what they are anticipating. The post heres might say something, but alot of us already know that alot of the forum members around here are biased towards Blizzard and anything they are developing, or running.

Anyways, as to which of the two are gonna be better? I wont speculate. Like normal, ill hold true to saying that we'll see when they get here. Even though Torchlight 2 will be here first.

Torchlight 2 is the sequel to a cartoony Diablo clone and Diablo 3 is a cartoony sequel to Diablo...

Think Im going to reinstall Diablo 2 instead. I dont see why people would be excited for either game.

    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Not really waiting with baited breath for the release of either game, but i know i both games will be a blind buy for me when they are released.

  • cheyanecheyane Member LegendaryPosts: 9,416

I played Torchlight a bit but it was nowhere near as engaging as Diablo II so I stopped playing it so I doubt I will be one of those who would anticipate  Torchlight 2 more than Diablo III.

I did not really give Torchlight much of a chance but you recall in Diablo II how those shamans went about saying Rakinishu !! Then the first part where you went to that graveyard and killed that former ranger that turned bad. There was this whole atmosphere to Diablo II that made you feel like you were in a bad ,bad place and you were alone and had to prevail. Torchlight never gave me that feeling. I do not know does it actually improve and get grittier ?

I've already decided to take a month off from whatever i'm doing to play D3 when it comes out :)  But in all seriousness, I'll probably play both because I've been dying to play something next gen at this point.

I'm pretty tired of people that are fans of Torchlight acting like they are so special.

Saying stupid crap thats basically like "oh you blizzard fans dont have a clue." Get over yourselves, you really are not special, sorry.

I loved the crap out of Torchlight however it didnt offer anything fresh and amazing outside of the cool cartoony graphics.

I stopped playing diablo and diablo 2 because i played them over a span of 6 or so years (i discovered diablo 1 late).

I was done with the diablo series and playing Torchlight was exactly like playing diablo except without multiplayer.

Torchlight 2 will undoubtedly be awesome.

    Diablo 3 still looks incredible.

    - WOW-style leveling WITHOUT any sort of availability to allocate stats.
    - actual crafting. WTF?
    - Classes that sound like they are out of comics.
    - Generic fantasy world

That sounds more like generic rpg than diablo game series.

Diablo was all about atmosphere, skewering dozens of enemies and gaining huge amounts of awesome loot. None of that crafting bs, none of that auto-leveling bs...

Gee, i dont know, because some people dont give a crap if a game has cartoony graphics?

I must be a rocket scientist for figuring that out.

Thank god for that. The colors used in Diablo 2 was horrible

Uhm Diablo 2 had crafting too and lots of it. But I can see making it more accessible and part of the game instead of an afterthought would be a WTF moment /rolls eyes. Plus you have to litteraly be insane to judge the game by the names of the classes.

It was all about the loot and always have been don't kid yourself

Call it Horadric Cube or whatever, there was crafting in D2. And since merchants have existed in every Diablo game why is it such a blasphemy if you combine the two?

What's making wizard more out of a comic than sorceress? Demon hunter than amazon? Witch doctor than necromancer? Monk than paladin?

And what is so generic with the world in Diablo 3? Compared to Diablo 2? It's the same damn generic fantasy world.

And why do you need to allocate stat points? Really? The game is about two things for me, loot and builds. Having seen the panels from Blizzcon it seems to be an overwhelming amount of options to develop the character. And to be frank, loot is still the most important thing about these games.

People want to support their indie developers. Just look at Minecraft. The game makes Runescape look good and it has sold over 500,000 Copies and it isn't even in beta yet!

Geez I thought I kept up decently with games.

I have never even heard of Torchlight.

Gonna have to check into it.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
