People who purchase the digital copy will already be patched and ready to go the moment the servers go live.
Other parts of cataclysm are already downloading in the background while people play.
It wasn't a problem during Lich King or Burning Crusade, so I don't see why it would be worse as more fewer people will be downloading the patch when the servers go live.

Aye.
Also East coasters can look at it this way:
You stand in line for the midnight release and by the time you get out of the store it can be 12:30am or 1:20am (depending on the size of the line and where you stand in it). Then figure in the time to get home and start installing. By the time you are normally all installed and patched up it can be closer to 3am before you actually start playing. So in reality by having to wait till 3am EST, you are only really losing maybe 30 minutes, so it's not like you are being totally screwed.
Now East Coasters just have a bit more time to BS with other people at the midnight release (or scan the crowd for people you know who are closet WoW players - like the guy in the office who denies playing but you know does...)
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
It wasn't a problem during Lich King or Burning Crusade, so I don't see why it would be worse as more fewer people will be downloading the patch when the servers go live.
LK and BC did not launch this way, so here will be more people patching at the same time now. How does this equate to fewer people?
But yeah, WOW does everything according to the west coast, and it is very annoying. Now they are trying to do a "midnight" launch according to west coast time, and I am saying enough is enough. Between this and the huge game breaking bugs/horrible support lately, not to mention the boring ass pre-cata quests, you can stick a fork in me... I am done...
Midnight launch means midnight for PLAYERS, not devs.

Actually, so much is coming down through the patcher and the new patching system is much, much better, that I do not think it will be much of an issue. Besides, I believe people patch from their localized servers and not just west coat servers. Blizzard is just flipping the switch at 3:00am EST to make the servers go live.
To turn your argument on its head, how is it fair for people on the west coast that east coast players get the game 3 hours early?
As far as game breaking bugs, I am not sure what to what you are referring?!?! I had the bug with the Halloween event but since then, everything is fine. No issue at all. And I actually like the Lore behind the pre-cata quests. The quests are the same ole same ole but the story is interesting at least.
^^ BUG. Read the Tech Support forums for more bugs, most of which are not being resolved in their threads.
Step 1: Person posts bug
Steo 2: TS asks for more info
Step 3: Person prodvides info
Step 4: Blizzard adandons thread...
It's becoming all too common these days.
Your argument turns nothing on its head. In fact, it's insipid. The East Coast lives 3 hours ahead. How fair is it for us to celebrate the New Year 3 hours early every year? But we do... Why? Because that is our schedule and time zone. Basically, the East Coast gets NO midnight launch.

Stop whining
Nobody except PST players get a midnight launch. Nobody.
If you want a hard copy, you still get it at midnight. Otherwise, just go to bed and wake up at 3am to get your launch. Seriously. The QQing is just pathetic about this.
Blizzard is a west coast company. They are working with their time zone. You want a midnight launch? Move out west.
I live in the midwest. Do you know what the midwest is? Nothing. They are called fly-over-states for a reason because everything is either East Coast or West Coast. The only thing I get is my uber Chicago-style Pizza which blows anything from out East out of the water.
In fact... I'm going to take Dec 7th off just to wake up at 2am to play Cata all day.
Blizzard is intentionally doing it this way. This isnt a botch.

This thread is a joke right?
Please tell me there are not 7 pages of people thinking ( except a few ) you get a launch 3 hours late? Midnight on the west coast is 3 a.m. on the east coast you will be playing at the same time. Please tell me the kids thinking they are getting screwed are not the future of the U.S.A.
I think this one ranks up there with the most ridiculous thing to complain about. It is a midnight launch, it is just a midnight launch based on Pacific Coast Time. It isn't like it makes sense for them to take down servers one at a time as their time zone passes to enable the Cataclysm launch. Not only is it a royal pain in the butt for Blizzard, but it would also probably lead to all sorts of errors delaying your play time more than if they do it this way. Try to realize that the world doesn't revolve around you and patience is a virtue.
It wasn't a problem during Lich King or Burning Crusade, so I don't see why it would be worse as more fewer people will be downloading the patch when the servers go live.

This is how it means fewer people will be patching at the same time.
Everyone who buys the digital copy will already have the game installed and patched BEFORE the servers go live. Before anyone who buys a phyiscal copy even has a chance to open the box, they will be fully patched. None of those people will need to patch and thus fewer people patching despite your claims.
Also, parts of the game are already patching right now.
On top of that, the server live time doesn't prevent anyone, from the east coast for example, from installing and patching before the servers go live at 3am EST. It isn't like blizzard is removing the ability to download a patch, just the ability to log into the servers.
This whole thread and the other (probably 20 page one just like it) is the reason I advocate an I.Q. test to buy a computer and be allowed on the internet. The first question on the test should be about time zones.
its going to be a complete cluster *&^% at launch with everyone launching at the same time. atleast before the east coasters was out of the way and onto the next area by the time the west coasters got it. now its going to be spawn camping fighting over mobs ect ect. i am east coast but doesn't affect me because i work 11pm-7am and won't play until after i wake up around 4 or 5. more than likely wait for the weekend when most people are outta my way, i REALLY hate fighting over quest mobs. i remember for TBC i skipped Hellfire completely and went straight to zangar launch night lol
taking bets on the famous Auth server having a melt down....
Perfect for here in Japan.. at 5:00pm I am already home from work..
Thank you blizzard for finally thinking about Japan again with your games.
On a side note :-p
Dont judge people lives based on what you think is right. Many of these "no-lifers" have kids/family.. a job..success and are able to juggle all of them together.
Its fun sometimes to stay up with friends get the game and midnight and thats that. Sure we can all wake up early the next day and play, but you are just killing the fun for many people. Im not screaming mad(partly because I am in Tokyo) but it is kinda weak how they did this.

Blizzard is just doing that so you get to work out all the launch time bugs and suffer through the first few hours of the servers crashing. They should have everything stable by the time the east coast players get home. Thanks for your help!
One more thing. This whole thread and the other (probably 20 page one just like it) is the reason I advocate an I.Q. test to buy a computer and be allowed on the internet. The first question on the test should be about time zones.
The second question should be about the correlation between strong principles and high intelligence... too bad you would most likely miss that question yourself. :P
I find it interesting that people equate this thread to a 3 hour span of time, when that is not the real reason it bugs me. The real reason is that it is a change to how they have done it in the past, and said change removes the midnight launch for the east coast...

My hubby is extremely upset at this news. He never tries for the achievements or anything, so I'm at a loss as to why he's upset. He has trouble actually vocalizing why he's upset. I think it's quite funny. He's still taking his Wowcation the release week, though
Nobody should be excluded no matter what time zone you are in. The only problem I see is that people always have to give Blizzard a free pass for everything while if it was for anyone else they would trash them in a heartbeat.
Although I understand whats going on.. I actually find it quite funny.. All this rage over 3 hours.. Imagine if at 3am, that the servers go down.. And stay down for a 12 hour maintenence or something.. And then imagine if unexpectantly.. The world ends right as the servers are being brought back online! Oh gee.. Talk about "cataclysmic" (yes.. Pun intended)
I don't get the Issue. the server goes on at 12am PST. they dont get a 3 hour head start, once the server goes live every one can log in. If they started it at 12am EST then the PST people would be starting at 9PM and you would complain about that. The company is in the PST Time zone, so thats what they go by.
I don't understand why in God's good name you would want to be on when it starts to fight everyone for quests and LAG from the population in an area. I'll wait. and STOP CRYING! It's a Game, get a Fricken Grip.

Disasterous! You won't be able to play for a full three hours! Surely, you will be way behind and have no hopes of ever catching up.
This is how it means fewer people will be patching at the same time.

Is this post for real ? 7 pages for a 3 hours difference ? Some peoples need to get some medication and go out more often.

Everybody gets to start playing Cata at the same time...this makes sense.
Plus...anybody who's hardcore enough to start playing at midnight...is hardcore enough to start playing at 3...you weren't going to sleep anyways.
