Did anyone else watch the MMO-Report and notice the little romance at the beginning of the TOR coverage? I saw the player character kissing some chick.
Does this mean theres gonna be romanceable characters?! I hope so

you have never played a bioware game have you?
plus the devs stated LOOONG ago you will have relationships with your companions, some will even leave you if you piss em off enough
that makes sence. I played dragon age and sten decided he wanted to kill me lol. I digress anyway I think there will be and i can not wait.
Games I will be playing are: TES V, SWTOR, ME 3, TSW
I just figured, MMO + Romance? since when?
half the time ur character is just a small pawn = NOT IN THIS CASE! WOOOO!
Which made me sad, Sten was actually a nice guy, he can't help it that his society valued a caste system much more than individualism.
Should TOR have good 3-dimensional characters like that i might never have to touch the multiplayer part of it.
if FFXIV does the same with being able to get NPCs instead of just one or add romance between you and your partner, I'd play a bit longer...
Didn't WoW do this already?
I mean, isn't that the whole reason Goldshire exists?
I guess that one falls into the category that some people want that 'you can make your own story'.
Well, in Goldshire they did. Many, many times.

Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
WoW had romance cutscenes? oh no wait they didnt, this is difrrent from what your talkin about XD
hmmm, I hope that means there will be heterosexual, bisexual, gay and lesbian relationships so we don't have to have a hundred threads about discrimination lol.
There Is Always Hope!
Haha True True.. atleast make 40% of the Companions Bi.
Damn, conservative media and politicians will have a blast when they find out there are same sex relationship stories ingame.
Lol, screwed if you do add them, screwed if you don't

screwed if they dont add any romance?
Jesus christ why couldn't they have just made Kotor 3 and added some basic coop to it. Probably would have made boat loads more money.
not to mention it be out early XD
As it is now, unless this game is an online REVOLUTION it's not going to be profitable for at least 3 years. Oh well, maybe this failure will convince companies to stop making WoW clones/single player games and bill them as MMORPGs. Then again, I said that after AoC too.
Pornshire and romance are too totally different things.
I'd really like to see more romance and just relationship work in general in MMOs. It doesn't necessarily even have to have a romantic lean, just give us more control over our character interation with others. This is actually one area where F2P MMOs are slightly ahead - I admit I spent hours letting a friend carry me around bridal style in Perfect World. Even once the novelty of it wore off, it was still fun to do. Most of the heavily Asian MMOs even allow you to get married in game.
If you really wanted to, you could even build it into the core game system. Whenever you group with someone for more than a set amount of time, you gain relationship points proportionally to the XP you gain together, and when you accumulate so much, it increases to the next tier, not unlike reputation in games like WoW and LotRO. For every tier, your combat effectiveness increases. Neutral -> Acquaintaince -> Friend->Companion for roughly a 5% increase in your abilities for each level. You could also have a top tier accessibile to only one other character at a time for the romantically inclined that grants abilities skin to what you see in Jade Dynasty.
once upon a time, mmos were not all about combat, combat, combat, combat, combat...
true story.
bioware has been very liberal about this in past games, actually.
i was very much surprised how they openly allowed homosexuality in dragon age, for instance.
but alas, that was a game perhaps targeted to a more mature audience - with the gore and all... not sure if we'll see anything like it in world of, ehmm... the old republic.
Was never much into the relationship values but it just spices it up. Glad to see they haven't strayed from it. Might surprise some people who aren't familar with how BW runs and how into the game the companions are. Much more so then a pet you raise and send him to tank.
Hopefully they will get them down right so they are a boon instead of a burden.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
This has already been explained in another thread why it can be successful. stop using the term Revolution, your not going to make it a buzz word and finally this is off topic of what the conversation was about which is romances. Please get back on topic. Thanks.
Edit: wrong thread (visit so many) this one was the romance thread :P
As for romances, these are the bread and butter of BW, i would be surprised if they didn't have any at all. Will make it interesting in the long run to see how other people romances work out compared to your own.

Lol, THAT is an odd reason. But I take support as it comes and don't look the gift horse into the mouth.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
Bioware probably would if they were calling the shots in this aspect but Lucas art are banning people for any use of the word 'gay", you would get warned for saying that the bomber who nuked Hiroshima was named "Enola gay".
There was some buzz about it here a year ago or so. LAs view is that such things don't exist in the SW universe.
Bioware are actually very open minded about these things but not so much that they would risk their IP for it.
I heard rumor and seen some hints that GW2s personal story would include something similar to romance BTW, not sure if it is true however, I guess we have to wait and see.
Sex sells.
Feel lonely in RL?
Just rent your virtual girl friend...
wait, but doesn't everyone of the same class get the exact same companion?
I can just see the chat:
Jedijoe tells 40-49 chat: "So, just got my Twi'Lek, how do I bang her?"
or
Darthhomey says: "Welcome to the group man, nice Twi'Lek. You doing her yet?"
Luke Hardlaser says: "Not yet, still gotta get the 3 mushroom updates for the sex quest."
Darthhomey says: "Yeah, the shrooms are a pita. You know, there is an option to force her if you go darkside."
Luke Hardlaser says: "Yeah i heard that, but I heard she leaves you after, if you do it lightside, you can do it over and over again."
Darthhomey says: "Yeah, i'm making an alt to try though, will be fun to slap her around"
"Id rather work on something with great potential than on fulfilling a promise of mediocrity."
