Every game that is in development is technically vaporware. Every MMORPG now on the market was at one point vaporware. Including that lame ass PvE clone MMORPG you're paying $10 a month to play right now.
So, if the devs announced "internal beta in Fall 2003" .... how long has this game been in beta? My math isn't so good. Is that four-plus years in internal beta, or almost five?
Iijs, your new title shall be...
Thread necromancer.
Thanks!
It had to be done. Seems to be 2-3 people on these forums (with x15 multiple accounts) determined to rewrite the truth of Darkfall's history.
They bend the truth, and often they ignore it.. But they cannot erase it. The truth is here for those who want to read it.

Actually the trolls and the fanboys are both right. The game was announced in 2001 by Razorwax and development began on the first incarnation of Darkfall. The Devs announced a beta for fall of 2003 but after that announcement Razorwax was absorbed into Aventurine and the whole project was moved from Norway to Greece. For some strange reason that I don't really understand they decided to scrap the whole project at this time and start from scratch. So the second(and current) incarnation of Darkfall started development in 2003 but they probably did keep some things from the original development team's work. They kept at the very least the design documents as the feature list didn't change. So something of incarnation one was kept and moved into incarnation two.
So your all right. The current incarnation of Darkfall started development in 2003 but some things were carried over from the project that started in 2001. This explains the 2003 internal beta that never happened as that incarnation of the game was scrapped before it took place. Like I said though it does seem strange that they decided to throw 2 years of work out the window. The only explanation I can think of is that the new devs at Aventurine may have found some fatal flaw in the core programing of the engine and felt that starting over was the only answer. We may never know the truth however as to why they did this.
