Someone told me I was gay for playing a female character.
I retorted with: At least I don't like looking at a male's backside the whole game!
So, people (some people anyway), seem to not get why males play female characters. The reason for me is not to get free l33t, but its because I'm not into looking at male a** all the time. I prefer females, not men...but thats just me.
Seems some people are always confused about males playing females, but to me, its more confusing a male playing another male and looking at his backside the whole time (unless he is into that, then I guess whatever, I don't care).
Kind of tired of getting complaints that I should play a male when I am a male...no thanks..got kicked out of my WoW guild because of it, one of the reasons I posted this here.

Some people view characters as a manifestation of themselves within the game. I really don't look at my characters ass. I play as a male because I am male, and I kind of want my character to be my avatar, it makes me feel a little more immersed into the game.
Although, sometimes I make female alts just for fun, but I never really get into those characters because they don't feel like me.
But it definitely doesn't make you gay. Those people are just trolling.
Or owned a mirror.
Where some people make characters as a manifestation of themselves in a game, other's make characters for the sake of creating a character within the game world that may or may not be totally different than who they are in real life. Others just go with whatever they feel like doing at the time.
Don't bother with people who insult you just because of what you do on a video game.
It's an old and tired debate, men playing men playing women playing men playing women ad nauseum, really as far as I can see if you can look past petty constraints of gender and sexuality play whatever feels right for the character and what suits you, that's all that matters.
I play male because I'm male. Not really much else to it....
I don't stare at my character's backside no matter what gender I play
I like how everyone apparently dives into how sexually attractive their dwarf hunter is or whatever thing it might be. If you're looking to your MMO's for your sexual fulfillment, then I think we got bigger questions to ask then. I personally am gay, GASP, and yet I play either, more typically male because people seem to get the wrong idea if you get on vent after being awsome PVP buddies or something and you're a petite girl in game, and then Barry White hops on over the microphone. It's just reduces uncomfortability for other players.
Simply, if you want to make everyone happy and comfortable, play your own gender. If you want to make yourself comfortable, don't let us know you're a guy staring at your character's butt while running to your quest in your tighty-whiteys. Then again, I could be wrong.
I do the same thing. I am a male and I play female characters. I am often made fun of or picked on once people find out I am a male, but I have never been kicked out of a guild like you have. It just seems logical to me that if I am going to play a game for long durations of time, I would rather be looking at the nice curved behind of a female character while doing so. Do not worry about people that pick on you for using a female character.
The point of games is that you are supposed to enjoy them. If using a female model helps you enjoy the game that much more then you my friend are doing it right.
Joking aside I can understand why some guys want to play a female character but in games such as EvE Online where you look at a ship all the time and your avatar is a simple picture it doesnt make sense to me. I have always played male characters without even thinking about it really but I've made a few bank alts which were female I guess.
Because if I'm going to spend hours looking at someone's butt, it's going to be...
Seriously, though, I play only male characters and I don't really spend much of my attention on the character's gluteus maximus, well, except for my blood elves. I think if it's anyone who has a problem with bum fixation, it's you. No need to be shy about it. Just be yourself.

Normal people don't watch themselves in a mirror every waking moment. In an MMO you pretty much always use a 3rd person view -- when possible -- to get a broader view of your surroundings.
all i can say to the OP is this. If you are concerned that people will think you are gay because you play a male character in a game, you have some serious comfort issues with your own sexuality. The "staring at a females ass is less gay" argument is so week and homophobic its disgusting. It is a game folks, play the character that appeals most to you and have fun, end of story (until the next one of these threads...)
If you're playing whatever you're playing simply because you don't want to look at their ass, then I have to question your willpower in not being able to stop looking at your cartoon characters ass. You're playing the game for the completely wrong reason if their ass is the sole purpose for choosing the gender of your avatar.
Because I don't look at my characters ass in a video game. Nor does my mind go directly to man ass, it's like asking me why I live in an apartment that has a green door on the outside, I don't know I don't really pay enough attention to it for it to bother me.
I play a male character for role play purposes. I would rather role play a Male character than get hit on by a bunch of guys and have to role play my way out of it. I mean the whole situation is just awkward for me as a guy.
So I guess my question would have to be:
What the hell is wrong with you that makes you so obsessed with a video game character ass? I mean it's a game, if I wanna really look at man or woman ass, I'll go down to the beach, here.
The amount of sexual insecurity in this thread is staggering.
Its a multiiple reason thing for me, as to why I'll create a female character sometimes.
Such as, if I hate the game's male character models. (Ala World of Warcraft). When I make a male character in a game, it has t obe a male character that I can feel as though I have some attachment too, like its myself in video game form. Or it has to remind me of my male heroes growing up... Indiana Jones for example. If it doesn't do these things, if it instead looks like something that I cannot put myself into, then I'll look for the female models to try to at least just enjoy the art of those models, since the female body... to me anyway... IS art, in reality and otherwise.
So for me, I guess it just boils down to the game's art style. I can never make a male character in any Asian game either, because I just can't relate to their weirdness. Age of Conan, Lord of the Rings... these games i have no problem with playing a dude though.
kinda hard to avoid when most mmoers play in 3rd person (a lot better view range), and the character is dead center in the screen. I have a small monitor, so its kinda hard to avoid. I can avoid it in 1st person, but 1st person just doesn't work unless the game is specifically made for it.
In FPS games and other first person games (Oblivion, Fallout 3/New Vegas) I mainly play male characters...well FPS games not much of a choice usually.
Though I do make exceptions, like the Horde races, minus the Blood Elves, the male races look way better. Tauren and Orc males are awesome looking.
I go by how good the character looks, because if I'm going to be playing that character, why would I want to play something I hate to look at? Kinda ruins the RPG part of it. Thats like buying a car or other vehicle that you really hate the look of.

But why does it matter? If you play a game, you really would get distracted by your toons ass all the time if he was male? That doesnt even make sense. The action should keep you too busy for that.
I dont care if a player has male/female toons. I play both myself. But I dont get all worked up about my toons ass lol. Its one thing you prefer to have a female toon for whatever reason, but the anti male toon excuse sounds kind of homophobic.
I don't stare at my character's backside, male or female, because I'm focusing on the combat animations, landscape/environment, friendly NPCs, hostile NPCs, or the - y'know - 10 f*cking story tall dragon I'm trying to kill. But for some people, that's obviously inconsequential compared to their toon's butt.
Right.
well a quote from my post just above yours
"I go by how good the character looks, because if I'm going to be playing that character, why would I want to play something I hate to look at? Kinda ruins the RPG part of it. Thats like buying a car or other vehicle that you really hate the look of."
So same reason someone buys a car that they like. They aren't going to be driving around in a car that they think looks ugly (well, no one I know would do that)

Honestly, what does it matter?
Who cares if Joe Schmoe plays a female character? How does it honestly affect anyone else? Really I think the people who have the biggest problem with it are just insecure in their own sexuality.
Human?
These discussions are rather pointless IMO. I don't look at pixels in such a way. I've not found myself staring at any butts male or female.
As for the question, I play males because.. well... I'm male. Not to say I'd feel any less of a male to play as a female. I just prefer a male name in-game, which better suits a male avatar.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
You're gay for playing a male character and a freak for playing a female one?
Damn, looks like I lose either way.
Looks like I'm going to have to go break it to my family that I'm a gay freak.
Who knew such an inconsequential thing would make such important life decisions for me.
Damn, my wife is going to be pissed...
That[object Window]s fine, but most MMO players decide how good they look by their gear, not by the gender of their char or his/her ass.
So if this arguement is at all meaningful, it would mean that all females who plays a female character are also apparently a lesbian.
But no one seems to ever mention that.
If anything, the fact that men even WANT to play females, and create drama about it...just means they are more immature than females to me. Just IMO.
