Incredible marketing technique by Funcom.. Kudos! Give people a free year of play... get them hooked.. let them make friends in game with people who own the expansions... and now your friends want to go somewhere you can't... you throw down your credit card number, grab the expansion, Funcom makes money from the point of sale plus now charges you monthly...
ok now am having some doubts, i was reading some old reviews and apparently this game was really bad when it came out. NOt that its something rare in mmorpgs.
Am sure there has been a lot of improvements and i know the expansions got a lot of good reviews, but how good really is??. Without the expansions, can it make me not wanting to play wow?
Oks so comparing to other sci.fi games like SWG or some others rpg like Knights of the old republic, or neocron, how good is this game?

didnt have to patch since i downloaded the newest version straight from the AO homepage ^^
the Torrent started off REALLY slow (2kbps) but gradually picked up... took me about 6 hours total on my cable connection..

No doubt the free mmorpg market just got hit by a Tsunami, cause in comparison to all other free games out there AO is miles and miles ahead, even in its original state.
This is a brilliant move that will net them a LOT of new accounts for sure, cause once you see the gear from SL or even NW you are gonna want to get thoose.
Advice to all from a looong time AO vet though, get to lvl 100-110 on rubi-ka, they way it was meant to be done, (as in NO hecklers) missions. This will be reasonably fast, you will get lots of rewards only available from there and above all you will master your profession to a much greater degree then the heckler people.
At 110+ somewere is the real first roadbump, it gets a little harder to lvl and most people venture into the shadowlands here, but this really got my hopes up that RK will once again flourish with people, and not be spread out over a HUGE area in SL.

w00t!!!!!! I get to play this game again for free? Very tempting... the game is okay, not the best MMORPG, but it wasn't worth 20$ per month.
But for FREE is definatly something.

New comers can play there for free and have fun with friends.
After they are over lvl 20 they get bored to the basic anarchy online, and ofcourse buy the expansion pack!
So Funcom makes money with that.
