Thank you Mr. Flannum.
An extra in depth to why there has been a big silence. More of the BIG information coming in 2011.

I think this article again solidifies ArenaNets constant and unwaining drive to produce the best possible game they can. I know as a longstanding MMO player I appreciate the fact that a developer is willing to painfully, break-out and take apart every aspect of the game, and ask themselves is this something I would tell my personal friends to play. If the answer is no then they go back to the drawing board and commit themselves even more to the notion that MMOs are dying for lack of player consideration.
I am willing to wait as long as it takes to get my hands on what will probably be one of the most polished releases of an MMO in.....well.....ever.
Very good articale and good to hear another profession is coming out this year.
He never said that...
This is not a game.
He said big info is coming next year, nothing about professions being this year :S
This is what is good about ArenaNet: 1. Regular Blogs and 2. talking in a level way about their design process: High level and all the way down to some of the details and nuts and bolts. If only other developers would be so bold! I'm still very much on board for GW2 : D
^Above next "big" info after the new year is what I took from the blog. Should be worth the wait.

Translation: SWTOR's crafting system has made our crafting system look like garbage. Tune in next year when we announce our new and improved dynamic crafting system.
Actually imo, they've got ppl by the balls already and so it would be more effective (as well as timely to their dev process) to release info after the holiday period. Though I loved the crafting recently showcased by Bioware. SWTOR imo looks more and more quality. Still I'd be interested to know more about all the unannounced features, will ArenaNet also be able to innovate with crafting too, underwater combat, guilds etc etc?

Well seeing as how arenanet is the most amazing studio that has ever existed, i expect nothing less than dynamic underwater crafting guilds.... persistant.
I kind of saw this as a "please pay no attention to the employee exodus..."
I lol'd and I agreed. Everything ArenaNet is doing seems it is taken as God's Will, positive or negative.
You make it sound like SWTOR's crafting system is the bees knees, its neat nothin epicly special. If any crafting system is to be rated awesome, it would have to beat Eve's system or it could be epicly cool on its own.
This is not a game.
I feel this is one of their best blogs yet. It let's us know how they work on the game and gives us a new perspective on what it takes to make a game like this and release all of that info.
I wonder how much work was required for that single blog post now...
All in all most of what he said was common sense to any creative process. Basically never feel to confident in what you create and always second guess your ideas. What I found to be most interesting was near the end, where he points out most developers don't have the luxuries they do (funds). As well as, says plainly support for a company is important. It builds confidence from investors (in this case, Ncsoft). Which in turn allows their game more time.

I was just kidding. I was mainly poking fun at the fact that fanboys even love it when anet basically says "we got nothin new to show you for a while"
Wow. And there are actually people that believe ArenaNet is not hyping their game and is only hyped by the fans? Cause that's what I've been reading on the other threads. GW2 looks it will be a steady game, don't get me wrong, but do not attept to convince people the hype is only by nature. What ArenaNet has been indirectly saying over the last interviews and blog posts is that they "are trying to make the best game", "every other developer is wrong for containing fees and we are doing it right", "to be patient and not stare at other games", “ We don’t hold things back according to some sinister master schedule, to intentionally tease our fans, or for any of the other malicious purposes that I’ve seen bandied about on various forums.” Ok white knight crusaders we get it..
We fanboys love to eat it up man, it is expected.
This is not a game.
ArenaNet's dev blogs have been my favorite thing. Wish more companies could do blogs as well as them, wonder if that will be the case with the finished games too? : D

Ah, threads like this make me laugh.
Sounds likea nother Star Wars: The Old Republic. "Look, we don't know how long the game will be in development. All we know is we poured millions into it and we don't want to get burned, but I'm PR so I have to spin it in a way that makes your mouth water, so.. Here's a cookie!"

Ok, smart one, guess who linked their blog to this site? That's right, a fan. I, and probably you, would never have seen the blog with a dev merely stating their philosophy on how to make a good game.
What's your axe, anyway? People have been complaining there's no news for weeks now, and some post on a blog most people don't even know exist has you waving your cane around.
There are no Guild Wars ads, they aren't doing interviews on letterman, and there's no media blitz. Almost certainly won't be billboards at Burger King near launch like some other game prolly will.
Do you even understand what you are thinking?
This is what happens when you finish early...ya got nothing left but disappointment, silence and a whooooole lotta time to kill before you can build up enough strength for round 2.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
Allways tought it would be a Q2 2011 release...
This is the first time i start doubting about this, as Next year will bring us a lot of information and maybe even a few surprises....
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
this is the part i liked best about the article:
For example, if you know you absolutely have to ship a game by a particular date, you often have to make some very tough decisions. Do you cut content? Do you maybe cut a profession? Or a race? A lot of games have had to make those choices. The thing is, we don’t want to do any of those things and we are in a position where we don’t have to. That’s not a luxury that every developer can afford. In fact, most can’t. The reason we can afford to do this is because NCSoft believes in us as a developer and believes in Guild Wars 2 as a game. One of the major reasons they believe so strongly in us is in large part due to all of our fans.
