This is the first time i start doubting about this, as Next year will bring us a lot of information and maybe even a few surprises....
Lol, I still hope for April but Q3 is more likely.
Whatever as long as they releases it in good shape, it seems to be several other interesting titles next year so I will have something else to play until the game releases anyways.
The fact thta they don't have a fixed date yet is actually good in my book, if games like AoC and WAR would have released when they were done instead of forced to release when they did both games would have gotten a lot more players.
Wow. And there are actually people that believe ArenaNet is not hyping their game and is only hyped by the fans? Cause that's what I've been reading on the other threads. GW2 looks it will be a steady game, don't get me wrong, but do not attept to convince people the hype is only by nature. What ArenaNet has been indirectly saying over the last interviews and blog posts is that they "are trying to make the best game", "every other developer is wrong for containing fees and we are doing it right", "to be patient and not stare at other games", “ We don’t hold things back according to some sinister master schedule, to intentionally tease our fans, or for any of the other malicious purposes that I’ve seen bandied about on various forums.” Ok white knight crusaders we get it..
Ok, smart one, guess who linked their blog to this site? That's right, a fan. I, and probably you, would never have seen the blog with a dev merely stating their philosophy on how to make a good game.
What's your axe, anyway? People have been complaining there's no news for weeks now, and some post on a blog most people don't even know exist has you waving your cane around.
There are no Guild Wars ads, they aren't doing interviews on letterman, and there's no media blitz. Almost certainly won't be billboards at Burger King near launch like some other game prolly will.
Do you even understand what you are thinking?
And how is this news? All I'm seeing is "We are here and going to talk about how we still have no release date"
Sounds likea nother Star Wars: The Old Republic. "Look, we don't know how long the game will be in development. All we know is we poured millions into it and we don't want to get burned, but I'm PR so I have to spin it in a way that makes your mouth water, so.. Here's a cookie!"
~Miles" Tails" Prower out! Catch me if you can!
You say that like it is a bad thing, but releasing a finished game is the only way today.
Vanguard, TCoS, AoC, WAR... Just a few examples of games that should have waited with release and burned because they didn't.
In fact the only other games on this site with this policy is Wow (sold: A lot) and Guildwars (sold: 7 million separate boxes or 3,5 million accounts). What does that tell you? Those are the 2 best selling games on the entire site.
The reason EQ2 lost over Wow was because Wow was in a lot better shape at launch. Ok, even Wow probably should have waited another 3 months for release, it shouldn't have hurt.
The one who releases the best game in 2011 will win, not the one that releases a crap game and spend years making it good, that might have worked for Eve online (it is a very good game now) but I can tell you one thing: If Eve would have released in the shape it is today it would have a lot more players now.
Releasing a finished game is enough to make my mouth water, unlike crappy early releases Ala' Vanguard (Good game but it will always feel the release).

It's true but I don't think we need a lengthy post every week reminding us that they don't have a release date planned.

I beg to differ, communicating about the information-delivery to very interested parties was very much needed and positive.
Also the further discussion on iterative development that was briefly mentioned before was cool. If ArenaNet can post a blog once a week that would be a result in my book (+ new concept art).

Eventually they will catter down to what food they like to it, what brand is their pc and how it was build, how amazing they were in college, where they go on holidays etc. etc. (of course even that would be a picture with gold frame for some). I just hope they don't strive away from the important stuff too much.

Exactly. It's not news. Some dev posted his thoughts on a blog, some fanboy got excited about it enough to draw attention to it.
Fans are hyping it up to incredible levels.
So you are the best poster, ever. You can answer your own questions, and counter your own arguments all by yourself.
I see 2 arguements irrelevant with each other: ArenaNet hyping up the game (whereas people claim they don't). Fanbois hyping up the game with no apparent reason (whereas they claim this is news when it's actually a desperate attempt from ArenaNet to hype up their game).

The community expected the info to keep coming at a steady pace, we got used to the trickles of info and suddenly it went quiet again, it's nothing more than Anet explaining why. They want to keep us informed, where's the big deal ?

The big deal is discussed in 4 pages, since the last batch of info we have heard the phrase "When it's ready" at least 10 times, it's getting tiring. Plus it's really not when it's ready, it's when NCsoft is planning to release it.
Guild Wars 2 is, IMO, the most promising title in the genre at the moment. Although I personally would love to be playing the game sooner, rather than later, I want them to take their time and only release it when it is ready!
It seems that almost every big title since WoW has been shipped way too early and has suffered considerably because of it. Let's have at least one highly promising title that doesn't make the same mistake, ok? I'm hopeful we'll see the game in 2011, but if it did take until 2012 to get it right, then they need to take the time!
I will give this game a try whenever it does come out, (even though I never played the original version) I like the idea of no monthly fee, and all the money I gave NCsoft playing Aion for a year can be regurgitated into the development process to help a company get it right the first time.
"The reason we can afford to do this is because NCSoft believes in us as a developer and believes in Guild Wars 2"
Ok first: I'm happy ArenaNet took the time to post something. It's better than nothing. At least they gave us a detailed explanation of why there is silence now.
Now for the posts I'm seeing on here...
Where the heck is this sense of entitlement coming from? Why does Anet HAVE to release info on new features if it's not ready. You aren't the developer, and you don't dictate when information is good enough for release. Stop complaining about the lack of info/release date and go do something else. At least you got something. Anet did not have to explain why there was silence on their part. They could have left it in the dark. You should be grateful that they took the time to write up an article to explain why there was silence. How many different languages does Anet have to say "when it's ready" in for you to understand. That is their release date, and that will remain the release date not a day before Anet feels it's ready enough to have a date put on it. Understand? Should I put that in bold and break each word up a little bit? As I stated in the beginning of this paragraph, you are not entitled to new info. Honestly, with all this 'zomg Anet u suk 4 not relesing info or givin reles date!', I hope they don't release information for a while.
I've been waiting for 3 years for as much info as we have. I remember when Anet first announced the existance of the game and then immediately went silent. For about 3 years this silence remained. 3 years, close to the point where people thought it was vaporware. I'm happy with what we have had. I'm sure the initial GW community is perfectly content with what we have. In fact many of us are happy with just small little updates such as "we added a plant to zone y today". So stop being greedy, and get over it. Anet will release stuff when they feel it's ready, and not a second sooner. They've stated in their article that they don't release based on some master schedule. They release when it's ready. Hell, the title of the article is "when it's ready". Don't know how many more times Anet has to say it.
I'll reiterate what I was stating back in 2007. Go do something else, read a book, play another game, eat a sandwich. When Anet releases more info, you will pretty much see it on every gaming news site out there. This is how you deal with the silence streaks that Anet takes.
/end rant.
"The big deal is discussed in 4 pages, since the last batch of info we have heard the phrase "When it's ready" at least 10 times, it's getting tiring. Plus it's really not when it's ready, it's when NCsoft is planning to release it."
Stop asking for the release date and you won't have to hear it
Which brings me to another point. People complain about games being extremely buggy on release and say 'company x should have wait on their game', yet when a company does wait it's like everyone wants to form an angry mob. Unfortunately, the development of a game is not instant. Guess what? It requires time, surprising I know.

Literally the only thing ArenaNet could do that would satisfy some people is to release Guild Wars 2 30 seconds from now fully-featured, bug-free, and consisting of their personal MMORPG preferences (and they better not leave out crafting! Except for the people who hate crafting, it better not be in there!). Anything short of that is going to be criticized for being PR/dev speak, not being innovative enough, changing things wot ain't broke, etc.
Also, why couldn't it have been released 15 seconds from now?!
Radio silence caused fans to cannibalize each other over on GW2Guru and any site that dared mention GW2 in the absence of information, preaching delays and date pushbacks and trouble in paradise and sinking ships. Now a post attempting to end the radio silence is criticized for being too much of the same old PR/dev speak we've heard enough of. ArenaNet literally can do nothing right with this game. They are the source of perpetual schadenfreude in the absence of content.

You basically nailed it.
People QQ that their game had so much potential if it had the time and money to do it, now you have ANet that do have the time and money to do it and the hypocrisy rules out in the angry mob.
GW2 Guru is a joke right now, with people acting childish as if ANet owned then info.
I thought I would never see the day which people would rant for everything...I was wrong

I want more information. I want to see the light at the end of the tunnel and know when I'll finally get to play this game. I want to enter my name on a list for the beta. I want, I want, I want.
That being said, I also want the game to be stable. I want the game to be balanced. I want the game to feel polished.
I know that Anet is going to put out a great game, and I am looking forward to this game so much that I can almost taste it. I'm going to devour every tidbit of information that they release. I'm going to have dreams of playing it and nightmares of another pushed back release.
I'm glad they took the time to make this statement, because I can tell myself that it's better than silence. I just hope that they don't go completely silent until the new year. Throw us a screenshot, a survey, a contest. Just keep something occurring so that when I look through the news that there is at least some little thing to ponder over. Some little thing to discuss. Some thing. Anything.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

It's only getting tiring not because ANet has been saying this over and over, but because every interviewer asks them when it's coming out. What do you want them to say? "Sorry, but read every other interview we've had which answers this exact question."
As long as every blogger or magazine editor asks this same thing, that's the answer they'll get. Don't blame ANet, blame the interviewers.

it means
"we have so much to do before the game is actually launchable and no clue how long it will take to implement, so let's not get peoples' hopes up".
Cynical, but true. Devs of gw2, rift, swtor and tera are all stating this crap over and over. It's getting tiresome.

"It has potential"
-Second most used phrase on existence
"It sucks"
-Most used phrase on existence
For all of you guys and gals that are fans of this game, welcome to what TOR fans have been going through for sometime now.
No matter what info is released it is never enough for some.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
