lvl 20 Lancer fighting DODO is bad ass. That is the most fearsome creature i have ever seen in any MMO period. The Lancer from Tera had it too easy. Maybe they need to learn from SE how to make bad ass looking monsters and combat?

I wish I could like this post. It's amazing the sheer number of dangers in FFXIV that consist of body fluid exiting an orifice. Then I saw Tera and was like... "WoW". I will hold my breath until launch though. Nothing like getting blindsided multiple games in a row.
TERA looks worse than I thought.

Hey I thought the gameplay would blow XIV and other MMO's out of the water. Now it just looks.. okay I guess.
I also remember it looking much better in screenshots than in that video.
I haven't played lots of MMOS to be honest. FFXI, EQ2 and now FFXIV. So i never realised the dull combat in FFXIV. My exprenice is really limited but when i saw Tera i realised that nope, combat doesn't need to be so dull. I had no interest in Tera earlier but now i am definietly dumping FFXIV the moment Tera is out.
I did some more search for videos and i love the combat animations, fast paced fighting style and variety of monsters you get to fight at low levels. i am sold.

I was too. But in all fairness it'd probably be better to compare that Terra video with a Gladiator Tanking for a party in FFXIV.
I've heard the grass is exceptionally green over that fence today, but this is just hearsay.
Super Mario Brothers on the SNES blows XIV's gameplay out of the water. I'd have more fun playing 3D Pong than killing Dodos in XIV.

Yeah, I don't think it's a massive revelation to anyone that single player games tend to have better gameplay than anything MMORPG's can come up with.
As far as gameplay is concerned, I'd still pick SMB over TERA. I expected more.

Putting FFXIV and TERA in the same sentence is blasphemy, let alone about comparing the two.

It is a great shame that TERA will have the old holy trinity.I hope future MMORPGs will does away with the old holy trinity and follow GW2's example.
To be fair, the lancer in FFXIV vid doesn't know how to play imo.
When you fight Dodo's, you have to circle straff & time your attacks to avoid their breath attacks for a starter.
LNC = med range attacks & the guy is not moving at all. When you're in combat as a LNC, you back up & bind before using abiliies so that you don't get needlessly hit by the mob.
Still, it is a bit slow, I'll give you that. But, I thought that TERA would be better than that also... oh well.

Yes,the mob jumped and avoided an attack.
Tera will be next years Aion with a hint of Darkfall and SWTOR will be next years FF14, albeit maybe not to the same degree.
Dont expect big things from either. Learn your lessons! Mmo developers will give u as little as possible and try and milk u for as much as possible.

As someone stated, comparing a somewhat turn based game and an action game is just dumb.
And why was this posted in the FFXIV forums? Just trying to prod at the people who enjoy FFXIV about an action game that isnt coming out for over a year in the US?
Hey, lets compare Blade and Soul and FFXIV too while we at it.
This was posted here by a current FFXIV player to compare the combat of two games. No one is trying to prod your sensitive behind trust me. Also only because FFXIV's combat is turned based doesn't mean it has to be a snore fest. Another thing this video trying to show was difference between monsters you fight at lvl 20 in both games.

The Tera player was fighting a Boss. The FFXIV player just happened to be fighting a dodo. That doesnt mean dodos are the 'biggest baddest thing' you can fight at level 20. Theres stuff thats just as nasty looking as the boss.
It was not a boss, it was an elite mob. Moreover i have a lvl 32 Puglist in FFXIV and all i saw was dodos, different kind of squirrels and sheeps, goats, rats, some bees and oversized flies till lvl 20. There is no nasty looking stuff for those levels.
