Gives you the best PvP experience - by far. Imho.

    Actually Edli mentioned it.

The problem with topics like this is that they are so subjective.

Lineage 2 has great pvp. If you are just starting the game it might not be great pvp. I have seen many people start L2 only to become discouraged because they couldn't zip up there with the big boys.

Also, for some, having a lvl 75+ picking off lvl 20's or lower or "whatever" is not considered "good pvp".

For some that really is what pvp is about, working your way up no matter the forces arrayed against you and eventually being part of it all.

For some it's about being evenly matched. For some it's about being hopelessly outmatched but being able to prevail.

For some it's about battle grounds and and even playing field and for some it's about roaming the land looking for wartags.

    Too subjective.

For the record I've had the most pvp fun in L2 and Warhammer. L2 for the scope of the pvp, for the feeling that it really mattered.

Warhammer for just quick pvp fun action packed fun.

    Your mileage may vary.

Well, yeah, that's probably right. Though, I just enjoy the feeling that I can spank anyone, anywhere at any given time if I want to. And that your leveling progress is being delayed, well, imho that's just making the game a little tougher and a bit more of a challange, which isn't that bad in my opinion.

Same, for example, happens in RFO, where enemy-factions camp your spots and invade your race-territories. Happens you're unable to level, therefore you call your race to protect you and defend your land. All of this adds certain excitment in my opinion.

Oh believe me, part of my intense leveling when I played L2 was because there were pk'ers around who could just overwhelm you and it gave one incentive to level. But not everyone feels that way and will complain if they are attacked. To that I say that means that the game is not right for you.

Tanks are the only class in that game that have any lifespan.  Everyone else dies within a matter of seconds once engaged.  That piece of crap game focuses on damage and a complete lack of meaningful defense for anyone but tanks.  Over done crowd control and to make it worse, more meaningful crowd control on tanks and melees than on ranged classes who really need it.  Add to that, the constant need to respawn becuase your healers are too busy trying to keep everyone alive, they rarely have the time or the action points to ressurect you in a big battle.  On top of it's many mechanical flaws, population inbalance is a huge problem that could have been dealt with much better with a third faction.  As it is now, Destruction dominates most of the servers and in most of the tiers.  It gets so bad that it is not uncommon to find a zone go from busy to empty as the underdog side gets fed up and log off or move to alteranate characters in another tier.  Who gives a damn about that stupid "Against All Odds" buff if you can't live long enough to benefit from it.

There are many good reasons why that game tanked within the first few months and even better reasons why it's still hemmorhaging players that were once faithful fanbois.  The new changes are even worse, at least for casual to moderate gamers, but the hardcores are loving it, of course.

Def agree with third faction. Sorely needed, but I don't see it happening.

Disagree with the population imbalance in part - in fact destro has been dominating when I'm online even though they have fewer numbers. Too many Order sitting in camp crying instead of fighting.

Making people rage log is really the name of the game tho. I wish there were a better open world option, but, like i said, at least I can always find PvP, level via PvP, even if it is less meaningful than say DF or Eve.

Lineage 2 above all. The game has every type of pvp. Open Pvp, Mass PVP Castle and Fort Seiges, Pvp for Clan Halls, Duels, Single and Group Tournaments that awards the winner a Hero status every month. No other game comes close.

Lineage 2 also had mass player pvp(which everyone believes its only possible on eve servers....) in castles, open pvp was always fun and there waas real action compared to Eve which is press the buttons and watch the fireworks- eve is too slow to be considered action no matter how many pro calculations about range/dmg etc you have done. And strategic position exist on l2 too.

L2 imo the best pvp game for FUN, dont take it too serious cause it isnt realyl balanced in 1v1 olympiad

Of the upcoming games only GW2 and The Secret World are focusing on PvP. Choose GW2 if you like PvP in a can aka. instanced (there will be open world too but with no systems in place) and choose The Secret World if you want the spiritual descendant of DAoC with 3 faction open world meaningful PvP.

TERA too, but they have started taking a very carebearish route and will end up just like AoC.

EDIT: Rift looks to be very good as well.

Just curious, what does "no systems in place" mean?

By that I mean no objective type world PvP. TSW will have resource centrepieces to their world PvP. Think DAoC that had keeps, and WAR.

You need to keep up with your info, mate.

"Each opposing world starts out with castles, mercenary camps, mineslumber mills and villages. Separating the starting zones are neutral zones controlled by no one, also containing fortresses, mines, and villages.

The resources gained from mines and lumber mills are used to rebuild walls, create siege engines, and generally defend the team's fortress.

These territories and control points will confer benefits to the world that controls them; "maybe everyone gets increased energy regeneration or healing rate or enhanced loot drop rate." Players can gain experience and level their character in World PvP. Guilds will be able to take and hold keeps."

Also black prophecy might be worth a look when they release more info. From the same people behind neocron 2 which has full open pvp(would have mentioned it but doubt there are enough players to satisfy you atm)

Darkfall PvP beats them all. FFA Full Loot FPS/Third Person Slasher mechanics... People just suck in real PvP to stand it. That's why they keep calling point-and-click bullcrap aka Lineage 2, Lags Online aka EVE, cybersport arenas aka GW and WoW, epic fail combat mechanics aka WAR, and the most suitable fights for pregnant tortoises aka DAoC...

  • JimmyupJimmyup Member Posts: 2

I would say AoC mainly for the combat, but TERA looks like it will have some great combat mechanics as well. Except unlike AoC pvp will actually have meaning in tera lol.

    Darkfall was also pretty fun

  • LukoooneLukooone Member UncommonPosts: 153

Darkfall with no doubt but only when you join a good clan and go city sieges/naval battles.

But, but, but he attacked me when I was low life!

Yes, HE DID, why you cant do the same to him?

Uf that will take me a lot of time...

    HERE IS YOUR QUEST!

  • SugardadSugardad Member Posts: 11

you all talk about mmoRPGs, but why are you leaving out the other mmos with pvp? imo the greatest pvp in any mmo is global agenda (yes its an action mmo), the game needs more items and customization but once youre fighting, its just great and hard

  • SugardadSugardad Member Posts: 11

kshadoo why dont you just admit it? you hate everything. also i think darkfall isnt very good, but thats just my opinion, i dont need to spew out crap that everyone should hate it too, they should try it themselves. so maybe youre the one with sucky taste and rest of us can actually find a fun game in our every day lives and enjoy them.

topic: i think WAR has the best pvp (ONLY late day and in the evening), for hardcore players who can play all day, dont play WAR, i do that atm cause i have nothing else to do, and its so dead in the morning and it takes 15-30 mins for an sc. but in the evening its a great game, especially the lower tiers, cause you actually have a goal that doesnt seem too far away, unlike when you just hit tier 4 and the pvp drops you EVER get are fckn renown rank 98 items, thanks a lot mythic ._. just another 48+ renown ranks to go. but if they fix that somehow, this will be the greatest mmo atm.

also for future mmos, i think tera will be kickass more than anything, and i base that only on the targetting system in the game, which isnt like wow, war and all the other, its more like darkfall but less crappy and better mechanics in general

AoC certainly has A LOT of PvP and there are sieges and things.  Like i said, getting randomly killed and spawn-camped by 20 morons for no reason isn't really my thing, but if you enjoy that type of thing, AoC will definitely hook you up.

I've also heard Darkfall is pretty hardcore in terms of PvP.  Not played it though.

    But you like eve...

I find eve's pvp not to be competative at all, as in like a sport, its more of a gank or be ganked , no one wants a fair fight and numbers only really matter, and you get spawn camped all the time at gates, infact the only time pvp happens is when you spawn into a system or spawn out of a station. Then theres the fact that you have to wait to train skills and those people who started before you are ahead no matter how much you play, and dont forget the cost. It costs a lot to pvp in that game and even more so to learn how to do it well. You will loose many hours of grinding to be able to pvp for 5 seconds. I guess thats why EVE's developers started selling their own currency for money. Bunch of low life suckers playing that game is all I can say.

Upcoming, good luck with that. Maybe Rift.

Overall, I would say Darkfall is the best, but still not working right. I would name EvE up there, but I dont like the ships idea behind it.

shadowbane was the greatest pvp type game ever! IMO

but hey...its dead right? or did sum1 buy the rights?

I dunno, honestly TERA's PvP is looking like it will be much more thrilling than RIFT's. RIFT's got that open-ended skill system, but in my experience that only ever leads to imbalances, mass nerfs and FoTM builds. Plus, TERA is much more action-oriented, which PvPers seemed to enjoy about games like MO and DF. It's also prettier :3 but admittedly that's just my opinion.

I can't say for certain as I've played neither and probably never will, but from the videos and interviews I've seen and read, respectively, I think TERA's PvP will win out. Now, when Blade & Soul gets added to the mix...that should be interesting. B & S looks like it's a PvP MMO with PvE, as opposed to most games which are the opposite. It's also highly stylized, gorey and graphic. Look up PvP videos if you haven't seen them, there's plenty. I don't have a lot of faith in NCSoft, but I have to admit those videos looked really unique and impressive.
