I'm still picking TOR as I've seen nothing that could potentially turn me away from it, I've been anticipating a story-driven mmo since I first stepped into SWG as my first mmo.

Though I'd definitely recommend keeping your eyes on RIFT as well.

Guild Wars 2 definitely looks interesting, put it just hasn't been able to grab me. The boss fights look fantastic, but I guess I've just seen most of it when it comes to huge boss fights, they don't really amaze me that easily any more.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

Exactly!!! That's what is so Refreshing about an Original IP like GW, the lore is fresh, the writiing is amazing and they aren't constricted by the original franchise like other IPs are, don't you think Lucas is all over Bioware saying (Nope you can't do that). Plus even the Races are original with original backgrounds unlike those 2 bit hacks at Blizzard ripping everything off from D&D, LOTR and Warhammer Lore.

The only Reason Blizzard was successful was because of the social marketing strategy and  making it "So easy a Caveman could do it", so everyone's grandma and mom and dad and 10 year old could play it. That is an easy sell and not even innovating the industry at all, if anything it has hindered it.

I was a HARDCORE Warcraft 1-3 fan, i looked forward to WoW at release, after 2 months i just couldn't take it anymore. I for one will be glad when the Guild Wars IP and ANET chops all the dying heads off the hydra behemoth and allows the PC market to once again be free, competitive and creative.

Long Live Arenanet!  After this maybe they can even leave NCsoft and become their own publisher or at least find a better suited one... If it weren't for Anet, NCsoft would be Bankrupt, hence why they don't care how long it takes GW2 to be released. Which should be this coming year sometime. Ah I feel mnuch better :P

TERA - we get bombarded with supposedly "relevant" news info and posts on how awesome it will be, but so far the only real feature it seems ot have is non-targeting combat. Otherwise its just prettier aion or any other <insertyourgrindgamehere>. Now it would all still be good if it was f2p, but  its p2p game(published by heinious and horrible frogster in europe, so europeans are yet again screwed) and a p2p game with huge multi-million investments and budgets and bills reaching almost a billion dollars.  Now where did i hear already about a hyped p2p game with huge budget and too much hype? Oh right, apb.. II predict a huge disappointment from the community once the game is released. Maybe it will go f2p in few years but it will certainly won't get a huge market share.

Star Wars: The Old Republic  - everything I said about TERA still holds true, except that the combat is utterly weak in this one. I will admit, I had a HUGE hopes when it was anounced that third kotor saga part will be a mmo. However after that all I saw was a hype and disappointing little bits of actual information(from story to gameplay). The hype is dangerous for this one. Of course since its Bioware, it might get overrated and praised like fps effect II, but IMO that won't be the case. The game has nothing innotive nor interesting. The core essence of what made KOTOR great is gone and we have yet another rvr game with focus on pve And the only feature that is fully advertised is voice acting?  The whole info suppresion, the fired employee blog, the lack of actual info and too much hype leads me to believe that people will be either hugely disappointed with this or will try to justify  on why it did not achieve anything significant or why it is undeserving to be a part of kotor awesomeness.

Guild Wars II - well, this still has its hype, but its managed and controlled (unlike TOR or TERA). However all I see so far is guild wars 1 with better graphics. None of the mistakes guild wars made are fixed, sadly.

DC Universe Online - sadly so far it seems that the champions online situation will repeat itself, game will stumble around for a year or so only to go f2p afterward.

Rift - now this has a lot of hype, but the actual info leaks and bits somewhat justify it. The rift dynamics sound interesting and the multiclass system as well. I certainly hope it won't be just another grind to play as it has all the elements of good old school mmorpg in its development, which i like.

Overall, while of this list I will choose Rift, that is certainly NOT my most awaited mmorpg.  It goes somewhat like this:

    1. Secret World

    2. ArcheAge

    3. Faxion

    4. Rift.

About Your opinon on Guild Wars II - there is only few things from first part. Everything from mechanics, the way world works, gameplay (You can't even use same movment system that was in first GW). So either You don't know anything about GW, or You don't know anything about GW2. There is no other option Dude. I could understand if You call "Old Republic" a WoW with public quests from WaR, but hey... GW2 GW with better graphics? Seriously?!

    GW2 got my vote.

I know from the period I played SWG that p2p MMO's are not for me. I feel like I have to play every day in a p2p MMO.

So I love GW1 because its b2p. Of course I also think its a great game. I believe Arenanet will make GW2 a even better game.

Even if GW2 was p2p I still think its the best on the list.

GW2 for me. From what I have gathered RIFTs reminds me too much of a EQ2 with its standard "run around zones, while picking quests that don't really influence the word, and wait for mobs to respawn from thin air" gameplay - with public quests added to the mix.

GW2 interests me because I liked GW and the way how it told stories. I'm more interested in heavily instanced co-op games anyways since they have better tools for actual persistent changes which are something I need for my enjoyment - something even GW underused. As to GW2. They seem to improve on it by giving both personal stories which are persistent, and world which has arcing public quests (which I like as I hate the time wasted forming parties).

All in all. GW2 seems to be combining the things I like from co-op games, and the things I like from MMOs. So that's the reason why it gets my vote. I suppose I could like SW:TOR too but Star Wars is not my thing. I'd rather see ME2 co-op/mmo mix. It also seems to go toward slightly more action-like combat which I fully support.

On co-op front I'm also waiting for Neverwinter. I just hope Cryptic remembers that they are creating a co-op game and utilize instances to tell persistent stories with a lot environmental/object interaction. Simply hacking and slashing through small box-like instances is why CO didn't work for me (and is the "CoH model" where it fails for me).

guildwars 2 has been anticipated for over 3 years already, of course its the most anticipated, i havent even HEARD of the other games, thats how much im anticipating them.

  • SabbicatSabbicat Member UncommonPosts: 290

If all of these games come out next year I'm going to need to give up on sleep as so many on the list I can hardly wait to play. Choosing Most Anticipated is almost imposible.

    Really? I thought that's what MMORPG.com was.

Nope, the articles that MMORPG does are actually pretty good. mmosite on the other hand is a steaming pile of fail and will put up any story for more pageviews to get more ad revinue.

I voted GW2, because I've been following it for many months very closely and think it really is offering something new and different. I also played GW, so that doesn't hurt. Funny thing is, its also so very different from GW O.o

Tough Tough choice between SW:TOR and GW2.

I chose GW2 because I could see myself playing it regardless whether or not I'm broke and can't pay for a subscription.

Because a box is much easier to afford.

GW2 is still restricted by the lore of GW1, also on the note of ToR. While yeah LA does do the correcting, seeing as BW has made a star wars game before, i think they know where they can step and where they can't. Thats why they were careful to place it far enough away from the movies to not interfere with that and far enough away from the KoToR series to not interfere with that.  They can make references to them both but are pretty free about what they can do. So long as they hold to the lore of the star wars universe.

LA has power, but BW is big enough to push back and talk, i think both are on even ground. BW knows what they can put in and LA i'm sure will have enough respect for the company to give them some ground.  They aren't going to be hovering over them saying, yes you can do that no you can't. They will most likely say make the game and when your ready we will review it and see what we think.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

SW:ToR- To hell with the hype, to hell with fans and trolls, this game looks like something I'd enjoy playing without having to be subjected to PUGs or overzealous guilds in order to progress. Yep.. I like single player RPGS.. Having a good single player game with a large amount of well polished content and MMO options when and if I feel like using them? Yes please.

DCU- Looks like a fun game to play off and on. Not sure if I'll get it because it doesn't seem deep enough to warrant a sub fee.

GW2 - Looks great. Lots of interesting new features. No sub fee? A definite game I'm going to try, but I'm looking forward to ToR a little more, just because the whole fantasy thing is getting a little old to me.

Rift- Slipped under my radar.. haven't even looked at screen shots for this one.. so I can't say anything good or bad about it.

TERA- A hack and slash style game.. would be fun for a while but falls into the DCU catagory of not being able to hold my attention for long enough to be worth a sub fee.

I guess The Secred World is not out in 2011?  My vote is for GW2 then.

GW2 by a longshot.  There's a lot of great competition but no other game is trying to push the envelope even close as much as arena net is.

Meh to every game on this list. At the moment only really excited about the W40k mmo...

swtor I think will be a big hit, needs some work though, i think rift is the one!

I hear allot about gamers wanting the old school approach to MMOs and thats why the're excited for RIFT, but from playing both games to some degree(Guild wars 2 demo, and currently playing RIFT beta) I dont see the excitement in that. The quests do the same thing the've always done, and thats thats send you from a to b or have you kill x amount of y enemy. Thats not an evolution of a genre, and its not even fun, your kidding yourself if you say you enjoy the endless repetition; what you really enjoy is the reward at the end. So if work is all you want in an mmo then Im not going to stop you from playing a game like RIFT, but for me I know that just because the MMO genre has gotten stagnate for a while, doesnt mean that returning to old school will be better; theres an evolution that will defeat both old school and stagnate MMOs, and that my friends is why I choose Guild Wars 2.

I honestly can't vote on this, because of how little my anticipation is for any of them.

I guess it would be between GW2 or SW:ToR, but I doubt I'll even play them until a year or so after release... when someone I know will just badger me into getting one of them, and I'll end up getting bored a week into it. Much like the 3+ times I got dragged back to WoW by people who saw something in it that I, for the life of me, just can't see.

Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4
Waiting On: GW2, TSW, Archeage, The Rapture

Close call between GW2 and TOR, but TOR wins due to the IP and BW. I'm pretty sure GW2 will win the poll, TOR's got too much of a WoW stigma attached to it in this site.

GW2 atleast for now but if something better comes around im most certainly willing to try .. but atleast for now it seems that theres nothing else that interests me more

  • ScotScot Member LegendaryPosts: 24,439

Dont mention GW2 or Rifts otherwise we are going to have all the noobs turn up on launch day. :)

  • skoupidiskoupidi Member UncommonPosts: 244

Between Tera and GW2 i choose Tera mostly because its releasing sooner.  Will play both ofc.

Rift is off my list after i tried it in last beta event. Swtor appeals bad to me for some reason. Not going to mention DCUO since i dont like superhero games.
