The point definitely remains. Graphics alone don't make a world immersive, but it is a significant factor just like every other single feature or aspect.

I would rather have WoW and ToR style graphics, than say the graphics of games like Rift and Tera. The reason i say that is, because i would rather run my game at max settings with 50 to 60 fps. Which you can do with a game like WoW, with games like Rift and Tera you have to run them on low settings at a shitty 7 to 8 fps and thats barely even playable. Yeah i'll take ToR graphics and have fun instead of Rift or Tera graphics and have headaches.
lolol, yeah, because this has been totally confirmed. Obviously Gormok here is in beta for both of these games, and has confirmed that they are unplayable pieces of pewp. Nevermind the fact that TERA runs on the Unreal engine which has been around since 1998 and has a proven track record of stability and smooth game play across the spectrum; this nobody has confirmed it is an out and out slide show....
...or he games on a Dell Dimension 2400. Either way...
Playability is an issue of concern, of course, but you are all neglecting the fact that the engine is the core of the game, and no matter how many polygons are flashing up on the screen, it is all a matter of how well the engine handles them. Now what baffles me is they chose this brand new HeroEngine to debut this game that, with all due respect, looks like it could have been made years ago. Why get fancy with the engine if you're going to release this lackluster gfx game? I think that is a set up for failure, and I've already heard stories of the test client crashing at recent showings so that doesn't instill much faith in their choice.
tl;dr- Engine>Polygons, and this engine is not tried and true. So stop making excuses for uninspired art until it is proven that the engine can handle your shoddy computers.
As a matter of fact i am in the Rift beta, and no I dont care about the NDA since i have no plans of playing again. But anyways the beta boards were full of complaints about the low fps. No i dont own an Alienware and dont plan to either, nor am i a tech nerd. But if i can run a game like Lotro or War with a decent framerate, and come to a game like Rift and get a shitty a fps. Than they are not looking to get many subs, there were ppl posting their comp specs and were wondering why their fps were so low. So your insults dont hold water
to all you GFX lovers out there.....one word....aion.....this one was supose to kill all the competition on the market just because it looked SOOOOO awesome (and had flying people...lolz).
wow is...when it comes to gfx......SOO outdated but still is the biggest game out there....how do you think this is possible??
PLAYABILTY my friends......smooth gameplay....have that and your game wins.
my 2 cents
Ok, well I liked Aion and felt the game play was fine.
Aion is still very popular in the east, not west but that makes sense as players in the west are really looking for wow type or cox type of quick leveling.
At least a good many from the complaints I've seen. And I don't really think WoW's graphics are outdated. I've got everything up to max and the game looks good. It doens't have to be anything more because of the art design involved. I suppose they could try to make everything more like the promotional movies they create but "why"? The game wouldn't run so well on lower running machines which definitely adds to why there are so many people.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

My insults do hold water, because as you can see I focused on TERA and from what I've seen it runs quite fine on many machines. My main point is, TERA runs fine because despite its fancy nature, it runs on a good engine with lots of fine-tuning (unlike TOR). Perhaps you were right about Rift, not that I care because it looks boring as all hell, but 1/2 is still 50%, and in any school that equates to failure.
As for running a game like LOTRO, it doesn't take much, as it is crap. And running WAR smoothly is a fallacy because that game is so poorly coded, a NASA supercomputer couldn't run it stable.
I won't play this game, but can someone specifically tell why the graphics are bad? I've looked at the pictures and videos, and while the graphics are not "plump, bouncy bouncy bons bons" good, they look fine to me.

How many hours you put in minecraft?
Hours... it's a lego simulator at best (a good one at that) and affecting the world is the point. The whole game revolves around it, otherwise there is nothing.
The "gameplay" can't be it's selling factor, because it's just too damn bad.
How do you even expect me to tell "what it doesn't have", rofl. It doesn't have anything except the world that you can play with. Okay, you?
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
I'm perfectly content with the graphics and the animations and I'm certainly glad you won't be populatiing the game alongside us.
[Mod Edit]
I love the art style and the in game clips show that they are crisp and vibrant. The animations may not be evolutionary, but they are standard fare and I have no problems with that in my current games, so I see no reason to get upset over them in future games.

Did anyone post how horrible the graphics look b/c it does. I mean out of all the highly anticipated games coming out soon, SWTOR looks the worst. Skill animations look also pretty lame. Comparing it to WOW's graphics, since it's so outdated now, I don't see that much of a difference. I mean other than it being Star Wars, I don't kno why so many people are so excited about this game, other than being Star Wars. Let's pretend this game wasn't Star Wars, would you be still so hyped about it. I kno hard it would be to forget the "Star Wars" part of it all but try very hard.
There's really no need for me to try that hard, to be honest I've at times found myself looking at screenshots I've seen and gone "wow I hope it looks better than this by launch" but it hasn't and couldn't reach that level of a problem because graphics are not of the highest regard in my choice of games. It is from a company who I do though hold in the highest regard as far as making some of my favorite games, and delivery on what they advertise.
But in the end it's Star Wars, I really don't like SOE's graphics (which is similar through most of the games I've played from them) and was never all that blown away by what SWG looked like but they gave me a great experience even though I would have preffered something more like what BW is doing in the first place.
I don't expect my feelings to change in this regard either. I'm a fan of Star Wars have watched some programs about it that weren't that good, read some novels that weren't particularly good and have certainly played some video games that weren't particularly well done, SWTOR may follow in that line but given my experience with what I like and my own view of what I've seen I can't say this is going to be a bad one.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Cool another guy basing his opinion of the very limited info bioware has given us. So far it looks amazing through the eyes of most others.
So I suppose all the rabid fanboys frothing at the mouth over every detail released are just as guilty as me, making judgments without having actually played the game. These forums are so one-sided, it's perfectly fine to speculate how AWESOME this game will be, but the second someone says what they see looks bad, it's a call to arms.

Nope forums is not biased or one sided, it is just hard to take someone seriously who forms an opinion about upcoming MMO on basis of limited information, few screenshots and videos. So do you think this game looks good? Have you formed any positive opinions towards this game? I've seen hundreds of posts in these forums doing just that, and no one saying "OMG, WHY ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT THIS GAME, THERE IS TOO LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT IT, GTFO." That rage is explicitly reserved for people who don't like what they've seen. And that, my friend, is what we call "ONE-SIDED"
Some of my favorite games had very bad graphics, Betrayal at Krondor to name one. In the end, graphics are a part of the game, but a fairly insignificant part in what keeps players playing, and happy. Shiny graphics are usually used to attract people to a game, but after that it's ALL content. Very little players keep playing a bad game for good graphics, but many will play a good game with bad graphics.
SWTOR? To say that it has bad graphics is an invalid argument. The graphics are fine. Hopefully, the gameplay will be superb.
Did anyone post how horrible the graphics look b/c it does. I mean out of all the highly anticipated games coming out soon, SWTOR looks the worst. Skill animations look also pretty lame. nah it doesnt, I was looking forward to Earthrise until I saw the screenshots and movies, that killed it for me. SWTOR looks immersive enough to work............for me that is.
It wasn't a "complaint" it was an observation based on how everyone says the poorer than average graphics are based on a playability standpoint. They are making generalizations as much as me, but I don't see you scolding them, do I? It was made to handle MMO's, but it was also made with newer hardware in mind so until I see it run smooth on PC's the aforementioned idiot poster was QQing about, I call BS.
But I'm sorry, uninspired art was perhaps a poor choice of words; let me quell your rage by replacing it with dated and clunky. The animations just look bad, and I can't get past it. Graphics don't make the game, but there is not enough to make me feel the game will be anything new, so I don't see what everyone is oozing over when they say the game play will be amazing...
If graphics really mean nothing, however, I suggest we turn this puppy into a MUD--it'll be the best game ever, then!
I'm not 'scolding you', I agreed with you that we don't know how smooth it runs until we try it, take from that what you want.
As for animations, I agree that some of them need work, specifically the idle animations, running and passive 'in combat' ones or whatever you call them, but for the combat ones specifically or the ones that play out when performing abilities, those seem to be well done imo.
Graphics mean something, it's a video game after all, but it's not about pixels in my opinion, it's about a form of expression that fits with the rest of the game's elements.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

Finally, I get a logical and sound response. The fanaticism displayed in these forums is too much to handle, sometimes. I agree, it's not all about pixels. I understand the IP is a major draw, too. I just feel some people may be setting themselves up for disappointment with all this bright and cheery optimism. For all we know, the HeroEngine is the reason they are scaling graphics down, and it will run just as sluggishly as the "other games."
Don't go into a game without questioning its construction. I learned that the hard way.... I played Warhammer.

Haha, what did I just say?
I logged in, started whacking at a tree, got lumber, made a house to a rock, stood there until dawn, made myself a furnace and a door and went out to dig for whatever I could find (coal I think it was.. to light a torch or something). Then I built a bigger house, dug up better minerals, fought few monsters (OH YEAH GAMEPLAY!) and so on.
Basically it's a lego simulator. You can do "anything" in the world. That's what it is about. Not some exciting gameplay mechanics (the fighting sure is involving) but building your own little sim city.
I don't know why you insist on me telling about my experiences in the game, as if that changed something, but I think the answer is already italized above- "must get out of this dead-end of an argument!"

The argument hit dead end since you have been avoiding to tell me how you think 'Minecraft only has immersive and alive world' and nothing else to it. And you are still doing it, trying to go in circles. Waste of time really.

To put it in a nutshell, our society is about to hit the fan, grades are dropping, obesity is going up,childhood the USA is going to lose its super power status before too long, but hey, as long as we have a cheap method to babysit our kids, all will be well no?
Im picking on WoW btw because its the beast that made all of this possible
Finally, I get a logical and sound response. The fanaticism displayed in these forums is too much to handle, sometimes. I agree, it's not all about pixels. I understand the IP is a major draw, too. I just feel some people may be setting themselves up for disappointment with all this bright and cheery optimism. For all we know, the HeroEngine is the reason they are scaling graphics down, and it will run just as sluggishly as the "other games."
Don't go into a game without questioning its construction. I learned that the hard way.... I played Warhammer.
PS: 10 Posts, and only a warning. So HA.
I used to feel the same way about the graphics of TOR when I looked at screenshots and videos, but that was before I played the beta.
The graphics are great. Everyone in chat were saying how suprised they were at how good it looked.
Comparing it to Aion, I would say that Aions character models maybe slightly better (not much) but the environmental graphics in tor blows Aion away.
As for comparing it to WoW...lol....no comparison, yes they have a similar art style but thats where it ends. Texture detail in tor is so much higher.
The argument hit dead end since you have been avoiding to tell me how you think 'Minecraft only has immersive and alive world' and nothing else to it. And you are still doing it, trying to go in circles. Waste of time really.
