Yes it is quite possible. People are excited about GW2 because they know ANET is good developer. Same reason people got excited about FFXIV because SE was behind it. Even though they got burned. Another example..warhammer online lots of hype because of Mythic behind it. So why can't players be excited about SWTOR due to Biowares name attached to it? only because they never made a MMO before does not in any way counts them out a very talented and successful developer house.
Why everything has to boil down to being afanboy or hater? can't follow a simple logic?
Those are call fanboy and look how badly they're burned and you still think it's ok to support a game because of the dev?
And frankly thou bioware make great single player game they do not have experience in mmo, their attempt to help mythic turn warhammer online around failed.

Dev talk will lead to nothing so why don't we all leave it out. And i still don't know what bioware have to do with thread topic "graphic sux"
For me TOR graphic is indeed subpar for a next gen game because i've never heard any people say they like this game due to it's graphic. Overall i blame the art style over the engine and imo art style is a very subjective thing, but then again they would be doing a poor job if they can't make people like it. Compare to DA 2 which has superb art quality and love by everyone i know.
I think artstyle plays a larger role in the impressions people build up than they confess to themselves. Which is natural, people are visually oriented: when we see a gorgeous woman with a great body and charisma, however much we say that 'it's what inside that counts more than what's outside', our image of that girl or woman and how we think she is are all based upon what we see of her, and even when we talk with her and get to know her, we'll be more lenient and positive towards her than when she would've been an ugly broad.
Same goes with MMORPG's: we or most of us say that graphics don't matter and only gameplay matters, but a lot of the impressions and first conclusions are based off visuals: people see Rift graphics and draw their first conclusions and think and say 'oh, it has an EQ vibe (based on the screenshots and video footage) so the game will probably also play like an oldschool MMO', or they see SWTOR's stylised/cartoony characters and they immediately draw conclusions about how the game will play and the gameplay will be.
I'm willing to bet if the graphics of SWTOR would have been of Mass Effect style and quality, a lot of those people that instantly made their conclusions about SWTOR without doing some research would have been far more positive and openminded about SWTOR; if they like the visuals many will think more and higher of a game and the features they learn of and fill in the blanks with positive wishful thinking, if they dislike the visuals many will be more sceptic and critical towards other aspects of a game and be more prone to think worse of a game and its aspects.
In short, whether it's in real life or about games, visuals build up an initial stance and prejudice - positive or negative - towards a subject, and anything more we learn about the subject will start from that advantage or disadvantage of that first impressions-prejudice.

Be fair, whether a game company or developer has made an MMORPG before or not has proven to be of minor importance in MMO past, however short it has been.
A lot of firsttimers succeeded (UO, EQ, DA:O, GW, WoW), and a lot of 'MMO vets' failed (WAR, AoC, STO).
I agree though that the OP wasn't trolling, trollbaiting or flaming, and that people from both sides of the fence should leave aside the overtly sensitive reactions.

I don't really understand why that's still an issue. AS you pointed out, there are companies that never made an mmo and they have done well enough. On top of that they do have access to mythic and can use their experiences to tailor SWToR.
In this day and age, with so many people who have worked on AAA mmo's, it should be easy enough for them to hire the best of the best.
As far as the graphics go, I do think it's just personal opinion. One either likes them, hates them or can put up with them.
Sure, I'd prefer more of a mass effect 2 type of art design but these graphics should do well enough. I don't mind stylized graphics if they are done well.

i was interested in this whole sw thing since kotor, kotor 2, etc. when i saw first pictures of this mmo i just hoped they will drastically remake the graphics because lets face it on every in-game video it looks terrible, repulsive and like game from 1992.
u want to buy it and play it? ur decision. im not into buying game that looks absolutely horrible and it can contains 1 milion hours of talking NPCs, perfect story, etc. i want to like what i see for my money.
Hmmm. Well, tastes differ of course, and I agree that the graphics or better said foremostly the character models aren't the best looking around - although still better than a WoW, LotrO or EQ2 - but these graphics don't look that bad to me, pretty acceptable actually:

I think a lot of you clearly put way too much importance on graphics. A game with great graphics but terrible gameplay is still a piece of crap... even if its a good looking piece of crap. Gameplay is much more important.
That being said, I actually like the graphical style they are going with in this game. The stylized graphics will allow for higher performance on all rigs and will allow many more people to play the game than if they went with the ultra-realistic style. Plus, games that follow the realistic graphics model tend to look outdated in a few years while stylized realizm graphics age gracefully over time. It was a very smart move for Bioware to go this route with their graphics and I'm sure it will pay off for them in the end.

I couldn't disagree with you more. I think they look great!
But to each their own. I'm glad I don't have extremely overblown expectations for every new game that is released. It actually allows me to enjoy games while the rest of you complain on these forums.
I see nothing wrong with the graphics myself. If this is the worst thing in this game i think we are all fine. I've seen a lot worse, graphics wise in game.
Link to a 1992 game just to show how off that comment about it being 1992 graphics are
your going to tell me that it looks blocky like that picture? I relieze the point your making but your over exaggerating the point just a little bit too far.

Imagine if i show you this picture with no TOR logo, erase the fett in the background and ask you will you be excited to play this game(without telling you what game or genre it is). Will you be dying to play it? That is the true graphic test.
From the last picture's character armor and weapon totally have no star wars vibe from it at all....you can see how far off target the design are.
(i'll get to it later) : terrain and environment design is very mundane and lame for my taste, another forumer @barakIII was emphasizing the size of the world in the game to me in another thread....i was like....is having a big game world with boring design interesting? Was asking 2-3 times in TOR thread for people to show me some good environment design but i guess there ain't any....
Remember those super cool cg trailer on TOR? compare those art style and this....just take the sith warrior in the cg and in the pic for comparison. Art and design perspective is so different.
Overall i'm quite disappointed with how the art and design and environment goes right now. But i still may pick up this game but it's definately not due to it's graphic
All the point above are my view and opinion on the graphical aspect of the game and please don't ask me to GTFO if i don't like the graphic :P Learn to respect boys and girls. Say why you like it or why you don't like it in point and not in nerd rage
Why do i like it? feels very Kotorish to me. I think a lot of people are having problems with the graphic choice, but the graphics themselves seem fine to me. I can't say much as i'm not a graphics expert. But i've seen a lot of worse games out there and this one seems fine.
It's hard for me because graphics was not the reason i choose the game in the first place.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Kotor is one of my fav game. I can accept kotor cos during that time graphic like WoW is consider great and kotor imo was quite good graphically then. Nowadays graphic have evolve a lot....imagine mass effect 3 in kotor or TOR graphic.
Other mmo may have worst graphic but they are not your so called next gen triple AAA mmo with a budget of over 100mil. In fact thou i don't like the art style for tera but i can say that tera have better gfx than TOR. Not to mention closer competitor like GW2 which excel both in art and gfx compare to TOR (at least for me ^^)
I guess graphics aren't really that big of a deal to me. As long as it looks good to me, i'm fine with it. I don't need super stellar graphics to enjoy the game.
Some people like the graphics, some don't. I guess on the topic of graphics we will have to agree to disagree on it.

Maybe that's the impression you get because you mistake it to be a male trooper, while it's a female one.
8th picture:if i didn't tell you this is a TOR pic will you know it's TOR? just by a glance. Imagine if i show you this picture with no TOR logo, erase the fett in the background and ask you will you be excited to play this game(without telling you what game or genre it is). Will you be dying to play it? That is the true graphic test. ? Does it matter whether I instantly think it's SWOTR? Knowing what I know and getting a feel of the graphical style, I'd guess SWTOR would be one of the possibilities when I would have seen the picture blankly. It doesn't disgust me when I see the screenshot as well, I think it's certainly interesting.
From the last picture's character armor and weapon totally have no star wars vibe from it at all....you can see how far off target the design are. Well, I guess that's your opinion and taste, not mine.

Lol. Tastes really do differ, while I don't think that SWTOR has the best graphics on the block, I definitely don't consider them to be mundane or lame.
Remember those super cool cg trailer on TOR? compare those art style and this....just take the sith warrior in the cg and in the pic for comparison. Art and design perspective is so different.
Eh, I never compare the visuals of a CG trailer with the ingame graphics, there's no use to it. For no game, except maybe Mass Effect, because they're just that good. But hey, here lies the difference between graphics from singleplayer games and MMO's.
Well, you asked for environment pics, I must be completely nuts to do it since ppl can check for those themselves with only 2-3 min effort, but here it goes:
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
I have to say I can't wait to actually play in Coruscant. When they first released these screens even tho I didn't care for the cartoon style these screens blew me away. Hopefully they really will make Coruscant feel like the living megatropolis it's meant to be.
All in all, i think that they look decent. They certainly arnt Aion, but they are better than other games out there. And as mentioned before. Im not playing for the graphics.
Very very nice environment picture, The city look very alive and massive. Thx for sharing
About your reply to my post.
Good for you if those graphic pleases your eye and will let you immerse yourself into the game more.
Different people have different taste and expectation i guess.
-about the cg vs game thingy....i was referring to the general design and art direction and not comparing cgi gfx to game graphic(are you insane?)
Tsk, tsk, questioning whether people are insane is of the same non-constructive level as keep referring to people as 'fanbois' or trolls or telling them to 'GTFO' if they don't like the graphics.
About the cgi vs game thing, I don't think so, not more than with the differences between cgi vs ingame art style of a WoW, GW Nightfall, EQ2 or Tabula Rasa or such. In fact, I see a lot of references between the trailers and ingame characters. Ah well, to each their opinion I guess.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Did anyone post how horrible the graphics look b/c it does. I mean out of all the highly anticipated games coming out soon, SWTOR looks the worst. Skill animations look also pretty lame. Comparing it to WOW's graphics, since it's so outdated now, I don't see that much of a difference. I mean other than it being Star Wars, I don't kno why so many people are so excited about this game, other than being Star Wars. Let's pretend this game wasn't Star Wars, would you be still so hyped about it. I kno hard it would be to forget the "Star Wars" part of it all but try very hard.
While I respect your opinion, I completley disagree. Speaking for only myself, the graphics do not make the game. TOR's graphics are just right for my tastes. It isn't trying to be real life, but at the same time it looks much more crisp and vibrant compared to WoW. In my opinion, of course.
The OP has to look no further than his own video card & three other of his friends to find out why.
Most people have not updated their systems and don't understans that a $179 video card today is faster than a $499 card just 2 years ago. People just do not realize that the GPU market is moving fast & that you don't have to buy expensive, just buy every 2 years to keep with the latest technology.
Next year AMD will release their FUSION technology which will feature a directX11 video card (GPU) directly alongside the CPU in one Proccesor. Call APU. That means that anyone (from netbook ~ powergamer) will have DX11 and will be able to tackle any game that comes out. If u happen to have a specific need, then u go out and spend $99 on a graphics card to boost.. but uneccesary for 70% of the populace... as games like StarWars would run @ easily.
The StarWars Developer's have to make a game that works on even the most outdated Windows XP systems.. that is just how it is until everyone grabs Win 7 & goes 64bit
"No they are not charity. That is where the whales come in. (I play for free. Whales pays.) Devs get a business. That is how it works."
I think it looks pretty sweet. My hope is it is as vast and open as the screenshots make it look. I get the feeling it will be a bunch of invisible walls though. I'll still play....hell...Age of Conan is like that and I really dig that game. Still...all the open worldness of SWG or WOW with the Bioware KOTOR theme would be the best.

Yeah, same here. But if it is possible will I try it out before buying it.
Many games are coming out in 2011 and some free trying first makes it easier to narrow it down.
I am not worried about pre ordering, I only do that for games I really am sure about, like CIV 5 last.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

Well, you asked for environment pics, I must be completely nuts to do it since ppl can check for those themselves with only 2-3 min effort, but here it goes:
The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release].
