If you could change 3 things about LOTRO, what would it be?

First off, let me say LOTRO is my all time favorite MMO, and i've played alot of others.

But to be honest, we alle know (even you!), that every game (maybe even everything in life) we love, have some flaws / missing something. So i encourage all to come with their 3 things they would change about LOTRO or just something you would like to add. Just for fun, and just to get some semi-positive (Semi because its something we would change/add) talk about LOTRO on this forum.

My list :

1. Make world PVMP

Yep world, as in a nasty human controlled ogre could attack you while questing in Lone Lands. Of course this is something not everyone would like, and sure they should be pve and pvp servers. A more realistic add, would be some sort of BG or Arena. Sometimes i just miss some good pvp action, and thats not possible if im alone, or only got like 30 min. I mean, you dont enter Etten on your own, and a raid often takes a couple of hours.

2. Remove radiance

And this step is even being taken care of as i write. I think its gonna be a major change, for the better. And im not the only one, as this has been a big discussion topic the for quite some time now

3. Gives us flying mounts

Yes i know, some would think its a WoW thing, but lore-wise its not even impossible. I mean, Gandalf do fly on some bird in the books, so why shouldnt some of us being able to? I think it could be a great fun, and really something to strive for. But this should only be for the hardcore gamers/raiders, so not everyone would have their flying mount.

That was my top 3, and maybe you dont agree with them, well then you go ahead and make your own list ;)

Why does every MMO out there have to have PvP servers? BG or Arenas i could agree on somehow, but free form PvP always screws with PvE balance. Even if you have different servertypes, they will still start changing abilities because of them being unbalanced or something in PvP situations. Not to mention that all Monsters are automatically maxlevel, so your fight with the ogre in LLs would be pretty short. And developing quests and level areas for monster players from 1-65 would a) be a major undertaking setting back the game for 1-2 years and b) take away the casual aspect of playing a monster, you can't just hop on and create a monster, no you would have to level it for ages, no thanks.

    2. Remove radiance

And this step is even being taken care of as i write. I think its gonna be a major change, for the better. And im not the only one, as this has been a big discussion topic the for quite some time now

It is impossible lore-wise. That "bird" gandalf was flying on was a sentient being, not some kind of horse or goat. And Gandalf isn't exactly your average dude either, just because an great eagle was willing to help one of the Istari as a personal favour does not mean they go around playing air taxi for everyone. Not to mention that LotRO most likely has the same problem azeroth had pre cataclysm, i.e. no tops on mountains etc. They would have to redo lots of textures for that, not to mention the whole engine because its not able to handle players moving significantly faster than riding mounts. That would set us back another year or two. Trying to kill the game much? :D.

That was my top 3, and maybe you dont agree with them, well then you go ahead and make your own list ;)

So my list is a bit more realistic:

    1. Finish the scaling instances project, there are still many classics that do not scale.

    2. Improve the character models and animation, it is one of the most common cited reasons people bring up when saying why they didn't get into LotRO.

    3. Redo all the traits, traitlines, LI boni and the virtue system(which stops scaling at level 50). There are many nonsensical traits, or traitlines that are plain broken or so bad nobody would ever use them for any reason. All playstyles should be valid and have their place if offered by the game, all traits and LI boni should be useful and valuable, subject to the situation instead of having several that are just plain bad no matter how you look at it.

    1.  Herd the f2p freeloaders onto their own servers.  (Please, no flaming on how their money helps we VIPs.  I understand that.  But, if I see one more level 65 in Moria still running around in Fem armor and jewelry (level 40ish gear), I may just throw up.)

    2.   Add a dungeon finder tool so people can quickly locate others who want to do the same instances they do.

    3.   Add quick travel routes in Moria to Orc-watch and Anazermkham (sp?)

    1. Have never gone F2P

    2. Remove radiance

    3. More content, more dynamic and interactive content; Things to do, not more levels

Well, it's a good thread and far be it to counter some of your preferences but I will mention...

1, you would change the game from lord of the rings to generic fantasy game with world pvp, completely disregarding anything about the world and the story that tolkien wrote.

    2, they are removing radiance

3, Gandalf didn't ride on a giant bird that was a mount. I think you might want to read a bit more brother.

Stil it's your opionion and you are welcome to it.

You can feel free to comment on mine...

1, change the art design of all avatars and all gear to something a bit less "fantastical".

2, A slightly more open world like Vanguard where I can go in any cave I see regardless of whether I'm on the quest.

3, More of a feeling of "lord of the rings" as opposed to me feeling that this game has a bit of a generic fantasy game feel at times.

1] Allow more customization in the player housing. If I had my way, player housing would combine the best of EQII and UO player housing.

2] Remove the instancing in Bree while eliminating the lag. (Hey, it's a wish list)

3] Add more hobbies. Fishing was great, let's have some more.

    1. A new LFG tool that everyone would use!

    2. Revamped housing to make i more fun and usefull.

    3. PvMP skirmishes.

I am probably one of few who are worried about removing radiance and want them to keep it.

Pretty much the same as the OP.

    1. PVP servers with open world PVP

    2. Remove radiance

    3. The forces of Sauron as a playable race 1-65

That would get me back to playing it

     For me I'd say

    1)Revamped housing

    2)Faster development of expansions

    3)Remove raidiance gear

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

  • RyukanRyukan Member UncommonPosts: 858

    1) A new class system. The class system as it is is boring and overly handheld and it feels very anti-climatic at the higher levels.

    2) Get rid of the focus on repetitive content.

    3) Less focus on the damn LotRO store and more focus on content updates. More than a year between mini-expansions? Pathetic.

They may call Isengard a full blown expansion, but I wager it will come off more like a mini-expansion. And the measely +5 level cap raise after more than a year is going to be lame.

Radiance will be removed early 2011.(+ a new raid cluster etc)

    ------------------------------------------------------

    1. Character/NPC model revamp.

    2. Even more social things to do. (Housing and Kinship love/more hobbies/more content etc)

    3. Remove the global cooldowns from skills.(or make them a bit shorter)

Lotro: Rolhad - The Nine - Evernight

    1. Better housing options, get rid of the hooks and just allow free placing of items. X number of items placed per house size.

    2. More kin related goodies. Make more to the leveling process, better rewards, guild mounts, custom guild clothing etc

    3. More hobbies

No to the world PvP, it doesnt even make sense. The majority of Sauron's fordes have no free will, so playing one just doesnt make any sense. Turbine did not even want PvP to begin with, the PvMP was just to appease those who begged for it, and we can see how much they have updated it over the years.

And god no to flying mounts. The Eagles arent mounts, they are highly intelligent beings, highly powerful, ancient beings who only ALLOWED Gandalf and CO. to ride on them, also mainly because of what Gandalf is. If a normal person walked up to them and said "hey, let me ride you" I doubt it would go over very well.

    1) Revamped housing.  I want to put things where I want to put them.  Don't give me a "slot"...ugh.

    2) FIX THE PUDDING HAIR.  It's the worst.  I've gotten used to the animations, but still hate the pudding hair.  I hate to wear helmets or hats because some of them are even worse.  Give me some animation in my hair.

    3) Revamp of LI and get rid of radiance gating. (which is already in the works)

And just as a P.S.: Never, ever put PvP in my PvE world.  Thank you.

  • Bama1267Bama1267 Member UncommonPosts: 1,822

    1) Character models

    2) A real caster ( No, I dont care that there were only 3 or w/e number of wizards)

    3) A little more flashy combat

Overall the rest of the game was and Is great but i can't get past the second 2 to even play the game. I like playing casters so right off the bat the game ended up beinga turnoff by having to play classes i would rather not. Like I said though, nice game ... I didn't QQ, just left. I know most of it was because of lore but sometitme you have to ignore some lore to make a game more fun.

    1. Add a "Kick Hobbit" emote for all other races.

    2. Add Dwarf Tossing

    3. Set the LOTRO software to permaban any Tolkien nerd that uses the phrase "Read the books!" as the end all be all answer to any debate about any Tolkienesque lore.

    1. Get rid of F2P and the Turbine shop(developer time wasted on that rather than content for actual players playing the game currently).

    2. Content released at the pace it was the first year to year and half before MoM(over a year since "mini" content releases-ugh!).

3.Get rid of the redundant skirmishes, and other such content.  This stuff is old after the first month it is released, if it takes that long and is a lame replacement for actual content.

    1. With the nex expansion allow 2 paths each class can take after level 65 as they get closer to mordor, One good and one corrupt, just like the original MEO was set to do.

    2. Stop the solo quest chains that end with one group oneat the end.  Its ok to have a few of those but most group content quest chains should be that way from the beginning.  That way when you form a group you can continue on through the whole chain and you can make the group reward quest chains much more desireable.

    3.  Expand the pvmp to fully levelable monsters and allow them mutiple zones to level up in that free players can go to if they choose.

As a commited soloer I couldn't agree more.

Having solo content that breaks out in to a group thing for one quest and then goes back to solo, seems to cheapen the experience.

I can't tell you how many times I've grouped for a quick quest and then as soon as I finish everyohe drops party immediately.

I wasn't the "dropping party immediately" that bothered me but more of a thought that was grouping for this part "really" necessary?

I much rather have soloed it than "soled it" with 5 other people who were also soloing it.  Just felt wrong.

It's ok to have group content but if there is then it feel better to have the group stay together for a little bit as opposed to something where they just added more mobs to force it to be a group thing.

Im not talking about pvp in Shire or Bree, but PVP in trollshaws, moria etc would not be lore breaking, and not make it a fantasy world..!? A human controlled ogre runnning around doing stuff (yes they would need stuff to do, like qs or something) in dangerous zones, would that really be so much off Tolkiens world?

And admitted, i dont really remember the books that well, but he does still get off Sarumans tower on some sort of air transportation, correct me if im wrong?

Well that's fair. I actualy do think it's possible to have player play "the bad guys" and still make sense in the story. However there might be one to many stipulations for players as the "bad guy" side didn't just hang out and say "hey let's go explore those dungeons and see what we can kill". They were controlled by their superiors to a greater or lesser extent.

You are correct he did jump on to an "air transport" however it wasn't a mount. It was as sentient as any race in middle earth.

The king of the eagles even makes a point to say that he only allows gandalf to do this because his need is great (or was that in the hobbit?) point was it was only in the most rare circumstances that the eagles carried others to safety.

They weren't mounts. Otherwise you might as well ask for dwarf mounts.

First, Redo all Elf, Hobbit & Man models they suck ass and it makes me sad that I'm forced to roll Dwarfs exclusively. Second, make all dungeon, epic book quests and raids have a solo, duo option like the skirmishes do. Third, I want a couple more classes, please!

    (1) Make changes to the store, right now it is in my inbox, in my face as i change loading screens, in my face as i use any travel point.  I would fix all that and change it to where it showed only on login or character change.  The game has become to much store and not enough playable content.

    (2) LI,  I knw were in for a re-write, they said as much.  However we don't know wha tthe intend.  I would change them to where they would be like your skimish pet,  you decide how you want to spend you points on what type of skills, no more lotery

    (3) Get back to the update status we had before mom rolled out.  We need to get back to having meet and potatos as latly we had lots of gruel.

Noticed I left radiance of that list, yes we know there going to remove that as well no need to put it in the top 3 anymore.
