So sure, while it might be fun to play a different race, it's not a gamebreaker by any stretch. I didn't see anyone complaining they HAD to be Bayonetta, or that they HAD to be Dante (DMC), or they HAD to be Cloud (FF7), or Squall (FF8) or Yuri (Shadow Hearts) or Laharl (Disgaea) etc etc etc...and those were all great characters and well-loved games. What is the complaint now?
That's a very good point. It's the whole 'sandbox vs themepark' discussion again and because RPG's like Dragon Age have so much in common with classical RPG's and classical MMORPG's that typical MMO discussion rises up also when it comes to RPG's like Dragon Age, especially here on a site like this.

My guess is that sandbox lovers and sim fans would rather have a free roaming world and an avatar character that is defined for you like in games as Red Dead Redemption (which admittedly is a great game) and Oblivion than an RPG like Dragon Age where you might have a wider variety and freedom of choice for your avatar creation but where the world is less free-roaming and restrictive. I think what's felt as limiting or not, is purely a matter of perception.
Um, the avatar was NOT predefined for you in Oblivion... you went through the same sort of character creation process as you did in Morrowind or the other Elder scrolls series . For my main play-through I created a Nord Warrior. The approach that Bethesda follows in thier Elder Scrolls series typifies what those of us who prefer more of the "Make your own Story" approach are talking about in contrast to the Bioware approach.
There are some modern RPG's that prefer the "Named Character" approach....and it works ok for those who don't mind that sort of thing.... but Bethesda's games, including Oblivion, are ones that harken back to the old school RPG's where you "rolled up" your own characters.
Okay this article claims that he is writing it to give us a glimps of the old republic, HOPEFULLY. You don't actually know that the graphics are similar or not do you? The only info I got from this article was that I learned a few things about Dragon age 2. Here is what I learned. 1. The graphics are going to be better and simialr to the first. 2. There way of having conversations is suposedly better than in the first one and that 3. your only going to have one race. What the heck does that have to do with the Star Wars game. You told us absolutely nothing about Star wars and talked about a game that isn't even an online game.
If they gota do some small promotion single player game articles to get a stronger relation to a mmo developer I wont object.
its not -my- wepsite, if they gona add more reviews and previews of games let them do it, hell not a chance you even get a vote in it, this website is a bussiness not -your- personal social site.
THIS!
If it bothered me, I'd simply skip the article.
The only mistake in posting it here was making the claim that this somehow give us "insight" into SW:ToR...perhaps they know more than I do, but I'm like 99% sure it's not even the same engine for the 2 games. Bioware makes good games, tells epic stories, I get that...that's seriously the only reason I'm excited about SW:ToR. It's not the timeline, it's not the pseudo Star Wars they've created...it's that I know I've enjoyed most Bioware games.
WTF this isnt an MMO what are you blighters playing at ... etc
~ Just Kidding ~
Pre ordered both this and SWTOR. Bioware know what they are doing and tend to do it pretty well in my opinion. Certainly from the point of view of story telling.
I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.

About Drakensang .. I would start with The Dark Eye..
This RPG is what BioWare used to be like, this is as close to BG1-2 as it gets but the good thing is it's sandbox and has a great crafting system. It won't be easy getting your head around it but once you do you are in for a rare treat.
I hate the bioware path since NWN, with al this "you'll play the role we have choosen for you, and you will have no choice". This is all what i hated from rpg since the 2d edition of aD&D when role players had to be feed with spoon with huge rules list and detailed books, but couldn't even create an interesting role for their characters outside the box given to them.
In NWN they had still given some freedom with the little sense of open world this game had, but Dragon Age, Mass effects, they are the worst of rpg for me.
I remember when playing NWN, and a guy came telling all those stories about dark elves and those stuff he took from books, and though to be the ultimate reality about dark elves as they really existed. Then i told him he was stupid, dark elves wasn't matriacal society and all those crap (naturally i played a rebel male so i kind of rp this too). But the guy became mad at me and began insulting me ooc, telling me i was an ignorant and knew nothing about rp blabla. Just sad, for me bioware is targeting those poor quality rper as their customers, giving them gelly spoon food, and they have so much succes. It is just so sad.
I wish we could come back to the real creativity role players had with the first d&d box, when rules and description where minimal, and all the imaginative work had to be done by players and GM. Bye bye good old days. Viva la sandbox Death to the infidels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But ye the idea to make a movie where you can play your role isn't a bad idea in itself, its just so limitating and frustrating in those games.
Dosn't sound like you've played Dragon Age or Mass Effect.. As they are not sand boxes, but offer way more "choices" to mold the game then the last Baldur Gates did.. DA:O gives you several choices through out the game that mold what happens.. I'd defiantly say the choices don't make as much as a impact as they did in ME1 they are still there and you're able to craft you're own character from them.
DA2 may not offer you the ability to create a unique character as orgins did.. But i'am confident it'll have enough moral choices to satisfy those that are looking for something of that sort.. I feel bad for you if you quit playing Bio Ware games after NWN's or BG.. You missed out on KOTOR, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age.. Some of the best games of this generation and last.

As I have said before in other posts, this is likely will be a very fun game as reported. Much like the original but improved graphics.
I call BS on the notion that they had a story to tell for the reason in race line paths. More likely the ROI was not what they thought with the original and so devs were asked to reduce the cost. Best way to do that, streamline the game. Unfortunately for the player this more linear game also makes it less interesting. It also seems that they are working in more ways to introduce add-on content that you pay for. Very disappointed in that. Still all and all, should be a good not great continuation of a successful title from Bioware/EA.
For me the question really is: how they think they can translate linear storyline gaming into an MMO. MMOs are all about the player creating the story, not being told what to do. They really have no ending unlike the storyline games like DA and Mass Effect. Im very very worried for TOR. This doesn't mean sandbox, but it doesn't mean rails either!
When I want real MMO news I head over to Massively, when I want articles like this that have nothing to do with MMORPG's I come here. Seriously, you can at least be honest with your reader base and start the article off with "Hey, this has nothing to do with MMO's but we want to nut hug Bioware a little with their upcoming game." To try and convince your reader base that this article has anything to do with mmo's is a farce, mostly because you yourselves know it doesn't belong here. LOL Bravo Jon, Bravo.
One of the reasons I start here and not Massivly is I want to read about games and sometimes eq in general. Being pigeonholed and reading the same thing all the time causes one to miss out on to many worthwhile things.
BTW...try to find the artical on reading comp. Jon stated very clearly in regard to the MMO snob QQers what the artical was about...and why.

Wouldn't be, they've stated they will have raids, flashpoints (group encounters) pvp (both instance and open) crafting and open world quests (other then your personal story).
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
Dragon Age one was an 11 in my book, but everything i see and hear about two has me so depressed. even got to play it at PAX and it was total shit. they really went in the wrong derection taking out the other two races and just focusing on one story. MANY OPTIONS IS THE POINT OF A BIOWARE GAME!
plus the combat has been dumbed down to dynasty warriors level.
If only there would be a fantasy MMORPG with the combat system, character development and gfx of Dragon Age 2...
Guild Wars 2 maybe?
really? you enjoyed the pause, set, pause, set... combat?
Actually, yeah.
Don't get me wrong - I like actiony, twitch-based games too (Team Fortress, Global Agenda, Vindictus, etc.). But there's something to be said for turn-based, cerebral-type gameplay as well. Sometimes I'd rather think than just button mash or test my hand-eye coordination.
Now with that said, one of my beefs with Dragon Age: Origins was that there were (IMO) way too many powers/spells/abilities than ever needed. A ton of that junk was just redundant. More often than not, my strategy amounted to aggro'ing everything I could with my tank, applying force field, then using him as an anchor for fireball spam.
That would be your fault for lacking tactical depth then. I considered most encounters with multiple layers of attacking. It worked vastly better than stand and tank/spam fire. Maybe you should of played it off of normal where you cannot do that type of stuff and survive. 1 fireball regardless of how threatening your tank is will draw agro. "Normal" is 2 degree's easy mode tbh. I had to crank it up because of that.

Nice article. I really enjoyed the first Dragon Age, so have been looking forward to the sequel.
Oh, and I agree with many of the others here - I wouldn't mind seeing a DA MMO at some point.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

We're all gamers here, so the article isn't about an MMO, then don't read it and find one that is. There are quite a few.
Well it's not an mmo thats clear.
But i think theres some doubt if bioware games are even rpg's.
