Likewise, the great thing about sandboxes is, you can join a guild and be under their protection. If they have no interest in protecting you while mining, or crafting in the guild city, then thats not a very good guild. They can also go collect resources for you, and then you can make them all sorts of nice shiny armor.

The problem is the solo hero mentality in games which means everyone HAS to be a fighter, the part time life, time zones,  and of course the fact theirs orcs and such in the woods. Consider historically everyone WAS a fighter and nomadic, until we learned to farm and herd, and then you had full time crafters protected by full time warriors.

Except the peasants couldn't respawn after being killed ;)

The problem is with Crafters in DarkFall is that most players who are in a Clan already have one of the Craft skill at either high rank or maxed. Meaning that Dedicated Crafters aren't so required anymore, when players already have access to all craft skills. Beside, there is a big incentive for players to take on Crafting Skills as it raises Wisdom. We end up with too many people crafting, and there is simply no need for Dedicated Crafters, as people on the front line are much more usefull.

I had joined DarkFall with the idea of  becoming a Dedicated Crafter and that's how it worked around launch, but few months later it became more popular for all players to grab their own Craft skills and fill up for each other because DarkFall has a lot of downtime and ressources are easy to come across, and since the current population is mostly composed of min/maxers, they all want to raise Wisdom. There's just too much in the way for Dedicated Crafters to be doing just crafting, sure it might help from time to time, but since most clans already have players with high/maxed craft skills, there's little need for dedicated crafters.

Maxed crafting isn't something everyone has, a large proportion have only touched crafting briefly because they prefer to PvE and simply buy goods. (Me for example).

Quality 4 and Quality 5 enchanters are rare. That's a craft you can't simply pick up and max, it requires lots of dedication and resources. Crafting is a viable role when placed in hand with being a trader/merchant, making money out the market and providing needed goods for a price.

Very true. This is common in most MMOs. They could probably change that by making crafting more time consuming and complex. Less of the click craft and 2 secs later out comes your sword. Basically more quality, less quantity. Perhaps the more time you spend crafting a sword, the better it is.

For crafting only players Fallen Earth is amazing!

Crafting engine in that game is sweet. In fact I would go as far to say its basically a crafters game.I wouldnt play the game if I didnt like crafting.

I play DF though because its more group focused than FE and I dont mean grouping for a kill run I mean large scale clan warefare. That is what makes DF the win.

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

another point to add about everyone crafting and thus not needing dedicated crafters...

that is very true and could have easily been avoided with a skillcap. I am not going to wax poetically about AV could or should have done. I am simply stating that with a skillcap, you absolutely would have dedicated crafters/enchanters. I personally liked the crafting in DF and it is AFK friendly as well. Mat gathering is very AFK friendly, but risky.

It would have been nice even if they would have diameterically opposed the crafting skills i.e, mining or wood cutting..but not both. Even without a skillcap, it would have made tailors and especially jewelcrafters rare. Everyone i knew ingame..and I mean EVERYONE could fashion their own arrows and make rudimentary armor.

I have considered trying Fallen Earth as I have read many opinions about the game. I still haven't found a game that has great fishing in it. Sadly that was my favorite harvesting activity. Cooking was detailed but not difficult as well.

Crafting should be a very important part of an MMO, imo. Otherwise it's get whatever you need from NPC's or loot drops. I find that a bit too arcade like. Hope DF continues to develop the crafting side, as it is all connected.

Yes, you can be a crafter.  I have seen pure crafters that pay players to protect and escort them to various places (30k gold in one instance).  Sure, its VERY rare, but it happens.  It takes stone marbles to be a pure crafter in Darkfall and its a way to become very wealthy very quickly.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Except you could GM all harvesting and crafting skills in UO without ever leaving the protection of the guards. I know I never left the Brit area on my crafters ( unless I recalled back to my house ).. UO had it right because they had protection for those who just wanted to craft so they could do their own thing.

    Really nothing like UO.

    Wheres the thrill in that?

Darkfall is aimed to please a niche community that wants to play a game that conjures real human emotions from time to time.

This. You can do whatever you want in DFO. If you choose to gather and craft (likely a very boring time ingame though) you can defiently do that. Find yourself some consistent buyers and you'll be rich in no time. Another bonus is starting out as an avid crafter is you'll get good stats fast so you'll be ahead of the game once you start to get into pve/pvp.
