This thread is just a contrast to the other posts saying that this game is terrible. DCUO, is probably the best game to be released in the past 5yrs with no contest. It's unlike your typical RPG and more along the lines of an action game. It feels more like you're playing Batman Arkham Asylum or Prototype, than anything else.
I have honestly never played a game before or shortly after release, that was done so well. I've been playing MMOs since their youth in the late 90s. I have beta'd just about every major release and have played almost every major P2P or F2P out there.
That said, DCUO is very impressive right off the bat. It's a ton of fun to play and it feels like a properly done version of CoH if it had to be compared to any other MMO out there.
I doubt I will be playing after release, because it's not the type of game I could see myself playing enough to justify paying monthly for it. But, I am absolutely sure that it will have no problems surviving after release. The game is just designed and executed gorgeously.
What makes me sad, is seeing these people down the game for reason A or reason B. If you truely love the MMO genre, DCUO is a step towards the future and a step in the right direction in contrast to the other major titles that have released in the past 5 years or so.
This game makes all the other games I've seen in the last half decade, look like they were made by Indy Studios. DCUO is professionalism at it's best. Lets just hope that this game takes off and developers take note of what it takes to make a good game. No matter what you put in the game, polish is one of the number one factors. WoW is a polished turd and look at it. A game may be bad mechanically, but a well polished game is just simply fun to play.
(As far as my other thread, the PVP needs some work. But that doesn't mean the game isn't done extremely well)
To any hardcore MMO fans, who put this game down. You should be ashamed of yourselves. This game is done well and has broken completely away from the MMO EQ/WoW mold, that we have grown so tired of.

I have to say, once in a while, when I go to a site when I TRY to get an UN-biased opinion on a game, there seems to be always someone who just enjoys posting "the game is doomed for failure" type of threads, being on gaming forums as long as I have, I learn to skip those threads, or perhaps ignore those who are posting those kinds of threads.
I just get this vibe, they're only doing it for the fun of it, and I don't really think it's an entirely accurate assessment.
DCUO did not release in the last five years. Therefore, it is not the best game to release in the last five years.
Can't we at least wait until a game actually launches to declare it the best and/or worst game ever? Or better yet, wait another six months so we have time to find the more subtle details about the game and actually know what we're talking about/
I was talking about the quality, so there are no subtle details. If you had read the post, all I talked about what basically it's polish.
The game releases in less than 2 weeks and right now is nothing more than Open Beta/Free Trial and stress tests.
This game is far from terrible. It has many good things going for it. The best questline in the game is the Joker's, and if anyone isn't doing that one simply for the guy who voices the Joker, you're missing out big time. He's really a treat.
I like the Alerts. They go fast usually, but it sucks when you get the same old people lotting Need on the drops that clearly say "Tank" or "Healer" or "Control" right on them as usual. No way to stop that with another new mmo apparently.. *sigh. I don't know why these games can't simply bar these types that aren't classed that way from even lotting on it, especially when it's Bind on Pickup which that stuff is. Not your class? can't even lot. Period.
The problem with all the good though is what you wrote above. People play a MMO to play a MMO; not a RPG and this game plays like a RPG. It is exactly like playing those games which defeats the purpose for MMO players. If we want to play games that perform better with controllers and PS3 stuff, then we'd just buy a PS3 and play that.
The PvP server is a gankfest already. In beta. If anyone who doesn't like PvP rolls on that, don't cry later. Just go ahead and opt for the PvE server right off if you want to enjoy the great storyline and questing without harrassment. Make a PvP toon later just for kicks on the PvP server, or better yet just Flag Up on the PvE server if you're feeling frisky when you feel like it. Get ready for the roaming ganksquads if you go PvP server, because you KNOW at launch they will be there.
The game will do okay I believe as it's giving SoE something that they don't already have in their "World of Bad and Old MMOs" stables; a brand new superhero game to compete with CoH, CO, and such. If someone is already playing other SoE games, they can now play this one for cheap as well which is a bonus.
The game will do well based on that alone, just not with most of the general MMO crowd I don't think.
"TO MICHAEL!"
It does'nt matter how good the game is NOW. As sooner rather than later soe WILL RUIN it. I give you a 100% guarantee on that happending. So why bother playing a game that IS going to be totaly ruined. Also no its not, not even close. Lotro and fallen earth are both MUCH better.
Top 3 MMO's PRE-CU SWG GW1 GW2
Worst 2 wow and Lotro Under standing stones it went woke
Played this on a friend's beta account. Not the best game ever, but good. Very good. "I might even pre-order it" good.
Important facts:
1. Free to Play games are poorly made.
2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals.
3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE.
4. Community is more important than you think.
I've yet to see a single review that didn't praise it on multiple levels for its combat and presentation.
But you are running w/ your lolihatewowimsocool agenda and ignoring a lot of serious problems the game has.
The game has an outstanding core, but it needs more time to iron out issues and lack of customization options (where it is competing head to head w/ two other games that do it significantly better) that will cause it to lose a significant chunk of its player base in the first few months. Will the game crumble? Of course not, its DC. But they'll make far more money in the long run by putting this game back in the oven.
I made a post about this game on another forum and I also said its the best game released since 2004. I dont know if I will be playing it or not but its good to see a game like this come along.
Boasting have it's limit. You get into every beta...ok i can accept that....every major p2p and F2P? no life? all major f2p really?
Btw thats not the point. Have less than a week account and a new account as a second poster to back you up does not add credit to your "unbiased" opinion.
I've not played dcuo, i don't have anything for or againts it. But i seriously doubt your credibility. I'm lurking in dcuo forum for information on the game not advertisement zzz
The op is right on the money, DCUO is a treat
I will be purchasing and subbing without worry of dropping out after month 1-2 like have for the last 4/5 years.
"All expectation leads to suffering" Buhhda
Yeah, there really aren't that many major F2P games. Probably, just as many or even less than major P2P games. Of course I'm only talking about games that were released in English. I don't speak Chinese or Korean and I bet they have a lot more over there, than what gets translated to English.
And I actually haven't Beta'd or even played every major game, F2P or P2P. But, pretty close. Which is why I said "just about...".
It's really not my credibility you need to worry about, if you want to question anyone's credibility you should be looking at the people saying it's a bad game. Sure it may have flaws, sure it may be broken here or there, but name one single MMO that isn't. Especially a game that pushes new boundaries in the MMO world, of course alot of things are going to be broken. I haven't advanced that far into the game yet, so I can't confirm any. But, from what I've been reading on the DCUO Official forums, I'm actually somewhat surprised that there aren't more things broken and screwed up than what people are talking about. I've seen games that follow pre-set cookie cutter molds, who have more devastating mechanical flaws than this.
The fact is, that it's extremely well done and it's extremely fun to play. While the second may be subjective, the first is not. The game just feels like people cared about this game, people put money where money was needed, and designed this game very well. I really can't describe it any better than what I said earlier, highlighted in blue: "This game is professionalism at it's best."
And you know, if you don't believe me. Find a Beta Key and play for yourself. It's free and the game doesn't release until mid Jan. There is no reason to say "I haven't played this game". Every MMO fan should play this game. Even if they don't preorder or subscribe after release (like me btw), it's absolutely an experience any MMO lover should have.
The best MMO to compare this game to, would actually be EVE. It may not be for everyone, but there is no denying the quality of the game. Anyone who says otherwise, just hates the world or is lying to themselves.
It's not the kind of game I could play for long periods of time and justify spending $15/mo on?
Didn't I say that?
What, you've never played a game that is very fun, but you don't want to play every day? Is that too far fetched for some people?
It's not for me as an MMO. So what? It's still fun. There is a market out there for it, I'm just not in it. But, if it was B2P (like Guild Wars), I would pick it up in a heartbeat.
Actually, imho, a better payment model would be the same sort of thing Fallout 3 & 4 use. I forget the name, but you buy content as you want it.
lol@rhoklaw
Its a good question but he makes it obvious hes speaking as an outsider that can just appreciate the game for what it is.
As far as tons of negative reviews and feedback i always skim over that stuff just to see exactly why people dont like a game. Most of the time its the stupidest crap i could ever read and im happy that i can see this feedback because it shows me that the stuff theyre saying has no effect on how ill personally enjoy the game.
I personally discovered free to play games only a few months ago and during that time ive played 100+ of them. A grand time i tell you. Its not hard to get a good look at all the free to play games out there.
To me the current issues with DCUO are so small and insignificant but thats just me, im definitely up on why people are unhappy and all that but personally i was able to create not only 1 character exactly how i wanted her to be but a second toon exactly how i wanted him. Not only was the main super powered character ive always dreamed of creating possible it also somehow ended up being even better than i originally imagined.
Games pure awesome and i cant help but believe it will only get better.

DCUO probably would be more successful as a B2P rather than a subbed game, i fully expect this game to be less popular than STO... and thats saying something
I know what F2P is but what B2P? or is that a typo?

Buy to Play.
Free to play, but you buy the game. Like Guild Wars. But, I'm sure there are many reasons why mostly open world games are mostly F2P with cash shops or P2P. I've been really wondering how GW2 is going to do financially.
B2P=buy 2 play=you buy the game, but pay no subscription.
Like Guild Wars or Team Fortress 2, etc.

I liked Champions Online better than DCUO personally. DCUO really does feel like Arkham Asylum and the like. For some that is good, for me, not so much.
---
It's sad that a selling point aka, what we will settle for...is that it is polished.
---
I think DCUO might do well on the console market though. Definitely puts FFXIV to shame.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
For me this statement is true. Best MMO I have played in a long time. Definitely the most fun and engaging combat ever seen in an MMO.
Couldn't have said it better. If your taking a positive spin on DC Universe I'd have left out that little nugget of information. Because at a very basic level: If it's so good why wouldn't you pay for the pleasure?'.
Regardless of if you think your reasons are fine for you, your reasoning seems faulty to the rest of us,. Also yes it's quite far fetched to think such a MMO vet like yourselfs has an issue with subscription models for a game that he thinks is the best on the market in five years.
Good thing I answered that, quite a while before you made your post. Otherwise, you might have wasted your time.
I wouldn't consider it the best game released in the last 5 years but it is a good game. It does things well and like every game it still needs fixing up on certain things.
I dismiss anyone who posts a "best / worst game ever!11!" posts.
Gimmie a break OP! Best game in 5 years?
Just for future reference...you came on a little strong, lol. I don't know DCUO because I haven't played it, I hope it's okay, but you didn't even qualify your outrageous statement by limiting it to best MMO in 5 years.
Let me get this straight...you claim to be an MMO vet for nigh on 20 years....but make a "best game evah!" post?
I'll just file this unbiased vet opinion where it belongs....
/flush.
Voting on the best MMORPG to release in 5 years is like...
Voting on the best Stomach Flu you've had in the last 5 years.
The good games haven't released yet, so let's be patient, shall we?
I'm also ignoring the fact you said "properly done version of CoH" which I only have obscenities to respond to that.
The mainpoint is definitely arguable. The game feels less like a MMO to me and more like a console-ish button masher. That is not to say that the game is all about button mashing, but there's a lot of it. Plays better on the PC with a controller that is for sure. Ultimately I didn't think it was a terrible game, just not that great a game either.
