no way in a million years im buying another game without trying it first. AoC and WAR was enough of a bad experience for me, even though those two titles were with BIG names... and we're talking about an indie company, indie game and 2 video footages (1 like 6 years old) with characters floating above ground and really really really clunky animations and overall gameplay... umm... try -> like -> buy. In no other way will it happen.

Fortunate? why we are fortunate to test and try out unfinshed mmo before release? Im fortunate to have a good life, im fortunate to not starve..

I would agree with you if the mmo  where finished and only content bugs that we have to test, but this day, the problem is not the bugs it's the lack of contents.

That particular project could have run out of money. Just because the company has money doesn't mean they want to take money from one project and dump it into another project.

Unless there's something spectacular happening that nobody is aware of, my guess would be they ran out of money for this game too. I would think this because it seems to happen a good bit. There is no proof either way, but it's the conclusion I'd draw.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

The proof is staring you right in the face,  almost everyone agrees this game is not ready for release yet they are releasing it.  It has to be either money or investor pressure.  Both reasons are money related, hence no matter the link, money has to be the issue.  Remember there is a lot of disinformation on the web, and discerning truth from fiction is not always easy.  There is an old saying: "actions speak louder than words" with is very appropriate for this thread.

where are you guys getting your information? what source? because I'm reading a lot of assertions with precious little backing it up. gotta love the internet: everyone confirms each other, regardless if the original information is incorrect. off to the races..lol.

I agree as well. Im more inclined to be forgiving to indie studios than more established or well-funded studios.  Siding with a seemingly more well-funded studio surely hasn't brought me much meaningful dynamic player-centric organic entertainment in the least.

Would not doubt it, and the bean counters are screaming to get it out there so we can recover some development costs, I might play the game, for a short time depends, plus I am sure they want to get it out before TOR hits, that is most likely going to be the largest launch of 2011,, time will tell, I wish them good luck..:)

before TOR hits? .... way different player base there buddy

It is practically an unknown concept around these forums but, Vinterkrig, people can actually like more than one type of game.  I know, shocking isn't it?  :p

I for one have 4 games on my radar for 2011:

    1.  SW:ToR - I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I love BioWare games, so this one is a given for me.

    2.  Earthrise - The freedom of a good avatar-based sandbox in a Sci-Fi setting has me awaiting this one.

    3.  The Secret World - Probably 2012 for this one, but I am excited about the open skill system and the setting.

    4.  TERA - Only interested in this one for the combat system as I am not very big on any game with a High-Fantasy setting.

    Playing: EVE Online
Played (retired): Anarchy Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Age of Conan.
Awaiting: Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World.

NEVER EVER EVER again will I buy an online game first without trying it in some sort of Alpha/Beta or free trial. I made that mistake with Dark and Light. I thought i would have learned my lesson after that disasterious game but I did the same thing again with Star Trek Online and that was even worse! The only online games I still play are the ones that I was able to try in a beta or alpha first (WoW and Fallen Earth).

Never ever will i make the same mistake again.

Been following ER for a couple of years but unsure whether to buy it yet. They need to drop the NDA soon so we can get an idea about the state of the game.

ISO standards and ratings r needed for all game release.

e.g. Server locations should be the main topics.Where r the server"s" going to be located?

Free hard drive space: 20 GB

Now  I have 2, 1TB harddrives but 20 GB for a game? that seems like quite a lot rofl

    I don't need a beta.

I'll just wait for the first couple months of reviews. :-)

... if it's good, it won't be going away.  I don't have to be first in to have fun.

Either this is a public relations stunt to boost interest in the game or maybe their poor or just greedy however if this game is coming out it will flop and anyone dumb enough to buy it will be here to QQ about how unfinished it is etc.                                                                                    To the people saying beta isnt meant to be a preview to a game your right and wrong while yes betas usually get changed just before release the core of the game is still the same MMOs are SUPPOSED to be a game you play for more then 2 months so being able to test the game lets you decide if its the game for you and since most require a montly fee we should be able to try it since if it sucks or it isnt our thing unlike a single player game you cant trade it at gamestop, give it as a gift to someone you hate, or even play it without the monthly fee it becomes 100% worthless.

On top of all this how many MMOs have come out that actually made a dent in the MMO market? I think there should be a law that anyone making an MMO should be required to do a freee trial I for one and 100% sick of unfinished, content lacking, little to no endgame (I wont mention bugs, bugs in MMOs happen its when they dont get addressed that its an issue.)  If a company goes broke their games should be trashed not released so they can swindle as much money from people before going belly up, shuting the game down or doing massive layoffs.

Im gonna give this one a shot, why?

I like sandboxes and indie devs that try to do something other then WoW style!

Ill give them my donation for attempting to break the cycle of theme park, non sandbox games. If it sux, it sux no big deal.

If its good and has alot of potential but needs work, I will prolly still support the game if they work towards making it better.

The mmorpg scene sucks, Im gonna give these guys some credit for trying to change that, at least in my mind.

TBH this mentality is why youre seeing MMO's reluctant to run open beta's, beta is a testing phase, not a free trial.

Maibe 10 years ago, but now open beta are trials. With all the crapy release we seen the last 5 years i cant blame anyone for that.

This is with this kind of mentality that we see unfinished product with no way to try it before paying. Even single player game has a demo.

First off by that right there, no wonder games fail you people use it for a trial and  not to  test and reports bugs, You rather come to a forum and SAY that Game sucks! IT WILL FAIL!!!

I would hate to be a dev! gamers today want everything free, next time you buy a game from steam or online, or for your console make sure u get a trial before u play it so you can say that game sucks it will fail!

    /roll eyes...

None of you have tested you have no idea how it is, they delayted it for many reasons people complained it was not release now they complain when it releases .. Your  worse than my grand mother, mom and wife all nagging at the same time..

Geez.. make up your minds, your worse than a old lady..

I will give this game a try, but I must admit that I’m not expecting much. I also like to use beta as a feeler gauge, but I also understand the function and importance of beta. Most people that enter a beta invest little to no time reporting bugs or looking for bugs, but will invest a great deal of time bashing the game for its bugs on forums and maybe if we reversed our priorities we might end up with better products.

Well, i am in the same boat as you are

although for the past few years, there have been a lot of dissapointment from MHS about the development of ER, but i just cant give up on this game, i dont know why, i just really love ER's potential, and if anything, i hope it will get a good care from the dev after release, and i will give my money to them!

    So What Now?

No.  tabula rasa was good.   may have lacked content but  it worked.

this game    is about  to   give the mmo world a heart murmur.  Wait and see.    theres a reason certian products dont have demos,trials..   Hell look at EA.      Not a single demo within years of  its existence. but   countless bad games

Is it just me or we saw a different gameplay video? like someone else mentioned that comabt will make or reak this game and the video we saw had horrible combat and animations. This game needs a lot of work, i can't believe they are releasing it so soon.

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

Im picking on WoW btw because its the beast that made all of this possible

Looks at the videos i would agree this game has a long way to go before its ready for release but if the company needs cash then they will release...

As for the beta thing... well open beta is really jsut a publicity thing they wont fix or change anything you see in an open beta test maybe soem last min bug fixes but thats it..

I like the sound and ideas behind this game but i think im with the rest of you no way will i buy another MMO before testing, i was suckered into buying MO and OMG what a total pile of crap that was /is...
