Well for one, it's Conan. Conan has a cult following. It's not Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. For me personally, there's too many quests. Gets boring when you have 5 different areas in a zone for quests, doing the same type of quest, then going to the next adventure zone and doing the same type of 20 quests. Like most mmos it's extremely linear. And probably lastly and the most important, Funcom isn't very successful. They're a very small crew and because of that new content is few and far between.
Shame because it's one of the better mmos I've ever played and the only one i fire up time to time.

Isn´t there a new Conan movie coming?
If they have nice content in the pipeline which goes along with the movie, this could be a great opportunity for getting more people
back into the game. It really deserves to be more in the spotlight again.
i enjoyed tortage a lot but after i got beyond that i got bored fairly quick with the hugely noticeable lack of quality open world content in the rest of the game. Tortage felt really nice and fresh, beyond Tortage felt very generic for some reason. I uninstalled while questin on the jungle map that you go after the egyptian-looking city surrounded by water. I forgot the names
I loved this game. I never played it at launch so I never experienced all the problems that drove most launch players away. I played a toon to 80 pve'ing a year after it came out for 2 months. Then, a year later I played another 80 for 2 months pvp'ing. I have never found another mmo that's as dark, gritty, and actually really Mature rated/oriented since. I recently tried the game again in 2013 but I found the lack of a population depressing and couldn't get myself back into it.

Main reason I left at some point was that silly idea to have after lv. 40 FIVE)!!!) buttons used for combos executions only instead for abilities. Was kind'a fun at start but fast become boring and wrist-hurting. Besides while you are doing some long combo combination you can not move or move is cancelled. If they wanted to be original max of the max 3 directional keys should be used. Fortunately spellcasters and ranger does not have this problem.
Still have resubbed around new year after few years and I'm not sorry, it is great and fun and intense game, but i'm very bothered by mele classes and that multikeys combos. But I guess will not stay more then 1 month or 2.
So did you not read the date of the OP's post ? was 2010... 4 years ago. AoC is not even relevant anymore let alone the need to necro a 4 year old post.
I loved this game when it came out, one of my all time favorites. Spent many days of my life playing this. As the game progressed though, whatever moron was making decisions about the game, just kept dumbing down the game, making it easier, making it themepark. Something it was never designed to do. At one point it just became silly to play it anymore and the game lost its focus.
Those of you that know what I mean, understand the great game that was destroyed here...
The only thing good in AOC is the combat. I wanted this game to be a sandbox open world pvp with harsh penalties rather than a theme park. BG's in this game are the worse.
I left coz i got bored of this game under a couple of weak and i stopped at level 40 mind. The first 25 levels are the best experience one will ever get from an mmorpg tho.

It's still around, it's still relevant. Sorry your such a stick in the mud that if you don't like something it has to suck for everyone else.
Will never ever give another dime to Funcom that being said here is why? Bought collectors edition and 6 month sub around the 60 day mark I went to the AOC forums and asked when " Bar Room Brawling would be added. Was given a permanent Ban, Uninstalled game and through collectors edition in trash.

Why don't more people play Age of Conan ? I know it had a bad start but it's pretty nice now. It has the best grafix by far +Carnage, blood, fatalities, naked breast's, and in my opinion, the bet starting area, finest combat structure and least boring quest of all. The raids are fun and the expansion was nice. The planned content sounds good to. I have played Aion and beta tested Rift, DCU, and others but never found a replacement for this game......So my question is why don't you play? ....Poor PC ? Sour from launch ? Not enough advertising or hype ?
I liked the game, I never really got to play much of it. I weathered the huge download, and played for a week. Then my old hard drive broke, and i had to get a new one. I never made it through the long download again. Damn my 100kbs lol.
OP I agree with you. I liked it very much. Have several level 80 characters. I suppose I just moved on. I actually logged back in a few weeks before ESO launched to check population and there was absolutely no one responding to world chat. So I haven't been back since.
Bad F2P model. If they let me permanently unlock content ala LOTRO I would have spent money. I had no interest in paying a sub for that game after leveling to about 40.

I personally always preferred this game over anything post SWGnerf.. But I laughed when I read this, due to the way it was written. As it sounds like you just casually asked ( if so) that's hilarious. I know it might not have been at the time, yet in this description it's like random guy casually walking into mcdonalds saying "hey man I love the food, when's the mcrib come out again? " Then being banned for life from the store by the manager without even so much as an explanation, just escorted straight out.

I really enjoyed the Tortuga starter area, but the area after that felt too much like WoW. I wanted to do the first dungeon as people had told me that it is in the dungeons the games excel, but couldn't find someone to do it with. So I stopped doing content as I didn't want to outlevel it and eventually stopped logging in at all.
Maybe the fact that a crafting revamp was being worked on and supposed to be out Spring or Summer of 2013? It still isn't finished and I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it either. That shows right there how much time and effort FunCom is putting into this game.
Apart from having the best graphics, even years later... the game saks! because of FunCom deciding to go with this unplayable, cheap version of a Mortal Kombat mechanic....

Meh, I thought ESO could be a close competition, low fantasy, gritty and violent.
Played beta, I was wrong. AoC still holds the throne. Makes me happy though that AoC will still be viable in the future

MMO's often don't get second chances after a horrible launch. I played AoC at launch and I can atest it was horrible.
deleted cause i quoted another for affect.

Tortage was so good that I felt it set a bad precedent for the rest of the game.
Combat was tedious with the MK-like system, it just doesn't work well with an MMO. One keypress should equate to one action, without compromise.
Soloing in a low population game with odd level, world scaling was rough.

The grafics is abit old and people play the new mmorpg becouse there friends are playing it not becouse its god or nice mmorpg its becouse its new.
I liked AOC but I play mmos to play with people not experiance a new single player game.
This happends all the time where a new mmo comes up half the player base wannish

"UP Left, DOWN Right, Right, UP Right".... WTH?!
yes those 2 are the reasons
for some its the combat system , although you can get used to it
but for most of us its the pay model they have chosen
it should be free for all content and give you many things to buy with real money as most modern games do
this system was tested in dcuo and aoc and other games and failed
on the contrary other games with whole content free like dungeons - money limit - classes limit etc
you feel nice and equal playing the game as someone who has money but then gets you into spending with
more clever ways like inv slots - mounts - companions - ways to level up faster - potions etc
the basic things should be free in any game
thats why we will never play it unfortunately
