I don't know why, but the only thing thats kept my interest in this game is that it's made by Bioware. I loved the original Neverwinter Nights, the Mass effect games and Dragon Age Origins is just superb, not to mention the masterpiece KOTOR. But is keeping interest in this game, especially been a MMO solely because it's developed by Bioware a bad thing? Bioware is one of my favourite developers behind Blizzard and it's really the only reason I still have interest in this title. People are giving the game negative opinion and feedback because of graphics and looks too colorful or cartoony, but really, this is Bioware were talking about, who have made nothing but masterpieces in the past.
When World of Warcraft released, the sole reason many thousands bought the game was because of Blizzard itself and the reputation it had at the time. In WoW's early stages it was far from perfect, but many stuck it out and more flocked in simply because the developer was blizzard. My only question is will SW TOR draw in many players who play Bioware's games on say the console and PC who are still not familiar with MMO's. The generic WoW mmo crowd may hate this game and call it a failure etc etc but I really see this game doing quite well simply because Bioware is involved.
People need to learn that this isn't the same Bioware that made those RPGs, it's an entirely different team that was hired to make this MMO. It's a 300 million dollar train wreck and a lot of you are going to be highly dissappointed. It's not made by the Bioware some of us know and love, it just has Bioware in their name so that it can appeal to fans.

This is factually false. No idea where this 'train wreck' stuff is coming from (Yes I do, it is a troll cause the game ISN'T out yet! ROFL). but the people behind the SWTOR have been at Bioware for a while.
Rob Denton was involved in Mass Effect 2 for instance.

I rarely post these days but I have to say something on this matter.
The people who are working on this as BioWare, are infact, your 'KOTOR' 'Mass Effect' 'Jade Empire' gang. They are in that new mass of developers you see there. Sure they've gone all 'dream team' with the development roster, but thats good. They are covering what experience the others lack. I.e Recruits from Mythic, a handful from others also. Not to mention Lucasarts for that 'Star Wars' feel. (Not that they've been that great at it as of late but ohwell.)
Drew Karpyshyn himself is involved with all the writing. At first he was confirmed to be sharing the story of the Jedi Knight with another writer who's name I've forgotten, but now it seems he's branched into all of the stories in one way or another. Considering he was lead writer on KoTOR, I think it'll have a familiar taste to it when it comes out.
Just expect different gameplay.

To tell u the truth im involved because it's starwars first and its bioware second.
I would prefere world of starcraft but because blizzard likes to make us wait for eons i go for swtor/Bioware which is a superb combination i think. But u never know even big companies do fails.
The thing is what happens if bioware fails? Will she cary the fail to it's future releases?
I supose bioware will lose a lot of trust from players if sw goes down.
A lot of people are going to be scratching thier heads when the NDA for this game drops. BioWare has done a masterful job of hiding information. A lot of haters will probably change their mind....its not entierly what it seems.
I figure as much, bioware does a really good job at hiding in trump cards. My only real concern is that the 8v8 'warzones' will be the deep end of the PVP pool. I can hardly consider 8v8 a 'war zone' personally.
May be 8v8 is the smallest warzone on offer ? and you'll have options for 12v12 or 16v16 or large scale 32v32 - 64v64 ? .

I think you may have a valid point Sir. Which hurts though, as i'm a Star Wars lover and waiting no hoping that this will replace the big hole SOE left in my heart after they ripped SWG from it.

Hard to say if the game will be good or not. But seeing as every game isn't made by the same BW team yet they all seem to be good, i'm pretty confident here. You also have these two posts showing that some of the people who were involved in games past are indeed there.

TOR is a weird one for me. From what I have seen/read; I don't like the artistic design - cartoonish and rather infantile. I don't like the gameplay - looks like a standing still skill spamming fest, lasers look like colorful slow dildos tbh, sluggish animation. I don't like the general game design - instance based themeparks feels old and I would expect big developers to come up with more creative coding.
BUT I have enjoyed every single Bioware release so far and I wouldn't mind at least giving this one a try, my reservations towards the game might prove to be neglectable in the grand scheme of the game. I like the parallell to Blizzard and WoW but the one thing that sets this apart is that WoW felt rather fresh and creative at the time.

i can understand the art style. however it doens't look childish or infantile to me at all. but it's your opinion so i'll go with that. But i would disagree on the standing still. Most of the skills can be done while moving. Not to mention the cover system and enemy AI will have you moving around quite a bit.
Instancing is just how games handle dungeons now a days so you don't have 10 groups or something going after the same boss you are. It's meant to uncomplicate things and keep the game moving. The instancing in the game for the NPC quests is so certain events can take place. Like having 3 people in a room or having 2 because you killed that other person in the past, and it's also used so you don't get people breaking the immersion in the game play by having someone walk right in between you and the quest person so he blocks your view. Also to note, other then the green barrier, you don't zone or anything, no loading screens when going into instances. Honestly the only time (by BW words) that you'll encounter a loading screen is when you switch planets
Theme park on the other hand is a gameplay style, nothing wrong there.
Heres some game play footage for you to show how some of the game plays.
Be prepared to weap the whirlwind gentlemen if you think that this is the same BW that made KotOR, DAO, and ME, you're in for a very rude awakening once the game comes out; that's all I'm going to say.
There are people that made KOTOR, DAO, ME working on TOR. They state they worked on these games before they started on TOR.
I'm waiting for TOR because it's really only scifi A title on the horizon, I'm talking about a mmorpg where you control a character instead of a spacecraft. Tabula Rasa shed some light in the neverending bog of fantasy mmorpgs but sadly it turned out secondhand-made bull.
Some might wait it because it's Bioware and hence it should be quality product, some because it's Star Wars, but I'm betting there's at least as much people as them, people who are just tired of the neverending fantasy titles and want to see a scifi mmorpg without having to play 10 years old Anarchy Online.
Makes me wonder, why is there a lot more scifi over fantasy in movies, but more fantasy over scifi in gaming (mostly talking of mmog's)?

i would hazard a guess its the 'tolkien' effect, whether you've played mmo's or not, just about everyone grew up reading the hobbit and lord of the rings, then after a few failed attempts, we have the film versions which.. were outstanding.. i think its because fantasy is easier to envision than sci-fi.. or perhaps it just shares a more 'common' viewpoint.. then there is the monster that is WoW which seems to be every MMO developers iconic goal.. but yes, sci-fi mmo's do seem to be a little thin on the ground, and successful ones, are as numerous as hens teeth.. Eve appears to be the only that bucks the trend.. i would like to see more Sci-fi myself, and with SW:TOR being the only starwars game on the horizon, i am hoping it will be a good game, only the fact that i didnt like the kotor series, and the fact that i do enjoy space combat, means im not really all that happy with some of the development thats gone into the game, for me, gameplay is far more important than storyline or voiceovers.. so while i hope for more from this game, i also realise that its not a game thats really meant for me, starwars fan or not.

I just wanted to say Phry, this is one of the most mature and responsible "not for me" posts I have seen on these forums. Thank you for not going the route of so many of the whiners that claim this game is "all wrong" and "doomed to fail". I have to say that while I am currently happy with the space combat, I do hope thay decide to make a large update and expansion on it in the future myself. In my opinion, that would create competition with other "space games" that can only be a good thing. Still crossing my fingers and hoping this is a great game, while only expecting a good game.
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"

You have good points there, though it's still hard to tell what it is with the fantasy trend since no matter what, scifi is very popular, and WoW, which seems to be the tug-train here for many of the fantasy mmog's, is pretty much based on Anarchy Online gameplay with Warhammer-ripped theme and initially only gameplay and approach to the game was made easier. I guess many of the game studios only gave a brief moment to think what to pull out of their hats after being blinded by WoW's success and cash flow.
Anyway, while many claims the story was best that kotor had to offer, I'm happy to think it was the gameplay and overall detail too which was quite smooth, and if we have similar gameplay but real-time instead of turn-based combat and overall smoothness is better, for me at least, I think we have a winner. I dont want to push up anyones hopes, but I have a feeling there will be better and such a space flying sub-game in TOR eventually which will give the player more freedom. Hell, even the rail shooter feels like a teaser more than a full feature to be honest. What would be better content for an expansion along few new planets? Oh well, we'll see. Untill then, I wish the pre-teen farseeing clairvoyance precog whiners shuts up for a minute.

Heres some game play footage for you to show how some of the game plays.

ignore the guy, the important stuff is in the game and he stops talking where it's important.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
